The Official NBA Thread 2011-12

HAHAHAHAHAHA, please don't tell me the whole baseball steroid era is crossing over to the NBA. FUCK! :x
He says it was an OTC vitamin supplement, and that he plans on appealing the suspension. They said that the NBA and NBAPA has over 100 banned substances that are common in legal vitmains, supplements, etc.
I agree with Michael, Lewis is too finesse to be assumed of steroids. Now if it were Dwight Howard, Ben Wallace, or even Ron Artest with that temper (and he is kinda buff, for an NBA player) then I could see the suspicion.

A few weeks ago we told you about Shaquille O'Neal's new reality show, "Shaq Vs.," which debuts Aug. 18 on ABC. To refresh your memory, the series pits Shaq against other top athletes — Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols and Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, which was recently filmed — in their own respective sports. It's must-TiVo television, really. Right up there with "The Office" re-runs.

Well, filming continues this Sunday, when Shaq plays pro beach volleyball players and two-time Olympic gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh on the sand. And while the best-of-three games to 11 should be entertaining on their own, Shaq decided to up the ante during a press conference yesterday, claiming if he loses, he'll walk two miles in a pink Speedo.

Yes, that's right. If — or is it when? — Shaq and his teammate, Olympic gold medalist Todd Rogers, lose to May-Treanor and Walsh, "The Big Witness Protection" will march the beaches of California wearing nothing more than a pink Earl Boykins-sized piece of nylon and spandex.

Feel free to shudder now.

According to Adam Rose at LAist, the "Scary Shaq Speedo Showdown" will take place at the end of the AVP tournament in Hermosa Beach, which starts today and runs through the weekend. Shaq's match is free to the public (assuming there's space) and is scheduled to begin following the men's final on Sunday around 3:30p.

I would tell you to go and take pictures, but ... well ... don't.
WTF? Oh man, i just had a mental image. :x

Ben Wallace to the pistons again?

Center Ben Wallace(notes) has agreed to a one-year deal for the veterans’ minimum with the Detroit Pistons, a league source said Friday.

Wallace, 34, played six seasons for the Pistons before signing with the Chicago Bulls as a free agent in the summer of 2006. He spent last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but was traded to Phoenix in the Shaquille O’Neal(notes) deal and a reached a buyout agreement with the Suns.
The only real veteran in the piston's squad.

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James(notes) recently said he's going to test the market when he becomes a free agent next summer, NBA executives are apparently thinking that it's a very slim chance that he'll leave the Cavs, according to Bulls.com.

But Dwyane Wade(notes) of the Miami Heat appears to be the one teams will focus most o their energy on since he led his weak team to a fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, Chris Bosh(notes), who will also be a free agent next summer, had his stock fall by not even getting his team anywhere near postseason play. The consensus is apparently that Wade might be more willing to leave Miami than James to leave Cleveland.

The Knicks were apparently the only team that could have been a landing spot for James but it's been in just as much in disarray since Donnie Walsh took over as it was before him. (OK, maybe slightly less disarray, but still messy.)

Lebron's leaving if they dont win a title. Wade's leaving too.

there's no way lebron goes to the knicks.

Why Not??? in this world money talks. baseball players leave their teams and sign lucrative deals to play with the Yankees. NY loves Lebron anyway, remember the game at MSG, a couple of nights after Kobe where James got 54 the crowd cheered him and gave him the MVP chant.

NY can give him way more than Cleveland, it all depends on what the Cavs do this year. them getting Shaq isnt gonna help. he cant even play a full year.

lebron is gonna get a crazy contract from NY next year, one that he cant pass up on. it will be more than what the highest paid player has now. (Who is that actually Garnett)???

they won't be able to afford him.

the salary cap is falling, not growing.

they still have eddy curry and jared jeffries' bloated contracts.

they still have david lee and nate robinson who rightfully want pay increases.

that italian fuck they drafted (instead of eric gordon... or brook lopez... or the kansas boys), jordan hill, and toney douglas won't look like potential elite players after 2010, even after d'antoni-stat inflation.

and, oh yeah, ny doesn't have a 2010 draft pick so they can't tank this year to make a run at john wall or anything.

there's no way they can pay lebron what he deserves while also maintaining a roster of teammates he thinks he can win a ring with. why the fuck would he leave a great cavs squad to spend his prime on a team rebuilding? he and larry hughes aren't fucking each other or anything.

I'm with Roaches here, no way he goes to NY. The baseball comparison doesn't hold up either, because it really isn't a "money talks" kind of deal. Cleveland will offer the maximum amount regardless, so it's not like NY can outbid. They'll have to lure Lebron with complimentary players, which won't happen. Lebron will stay with the Cav's if he has any sensibility, because they offer him the best chance to win. Why the hell would he want to rebuild again with NY, when Cleveland seems to be putting decent players around him, and getting him even closer to a championship.

Much, much, much more media outlets and marketing in NY.
All the players' money isn't made on their contracts. In fact, they can easily make much more money through endorsements and such than they ever could in a contract. Didn't Nike give LeBron like 90 mill before he ever touched an NBA basketball?
LeBron is unhappy with the management in Cleveland.

In other Non-Bron related news...
-----Q Rich has been traded for the fourth time this offseason, lmao.
-----Powe would have rather stayed with Boston than go to Cleveland.

A laptop containing "a variety of private images" of Baron Davis has been stolen and his lawyers are threatening legal action if the material is published.

Counsel for Davis sent news outlets a letter threatening legal action over the personal photos, videos, and audio stored on the computer.

Davis's counsel reported that the laptop theft has been reported to police, who are "investigating the matter." The photos and videos "depict, among other things, a variety of private images of our client, his associates and his colleagues," wrote lawyer William J. Briggs, II. Davis "had a reasonable expectation of enjoying total privacy with regard to the images," Briggs added.
Hahahaha, Baron Davis / Don Nelson sex tape on the way? Man, that sucks for Baron, I really like the guy. He is obviously ashamed of whatever videos or images they may have of him. It's coming out sometime, TMZ or some shit will leak it.

The overwhelming belief among NBA general managers is that Allen Iverson isn't worth all the trouble that could come along with him.
"As a GM, it would be interesting to find out how many GMs with playoff-caliber teams would be willing to even give the veteran's minimum, where the league picks up a large percentage of the salary," the same executive said. "Even at the minimum, you're going to go through training camp and one or two months of the season trying to get the experiment to be successful. I would venture to say that 30 percent or less of playoff GMs would have him for the minimum."

Iverson isn't opposed to signing a one-year deal, but sources close to the guard claim that the circumstances would have to be right.

"There are different scenarios impacting AI at the same time," another GM told NBA.com. "One of them is economic, another is the recent performance of his last two teams -- Denver and Detroit -- and not necessarily his performance, and another is teams protecting space for next summer.

"All of those line up. Another probable factor is what he's asking for. I don't think it is one thing. It's a multitude of factors."
It really is sad that a career such as Iverson's may be wasted due to his attitude and such, I think he deserves a chance. But I'm biased. Very illustrious career and more heart than anyone to ever touch a basketball.

^More heart than anyone to ever touch a basketball? wtf,
Jordan? Kobe?

Richardson to the Heat for blount, haha. Richardson's been traded like 3 times this off season hahaha. Nobody wants him.

Four times, Killu.

And yes, I believe Iverson had more heart than Jordan or Kobe. He played through so many injuries, literally sacrificed nearly every inch of his body to play the game. Generously listed at 6 feet tall and still told to guard Kobe, crossed Jordan, played his heart out, left it all on the floor. He had passion.
Kobe and Jordan have the physical attributes that helped them win, 6'6", 6'8" long athletic bodies and the ability to jump over the backboard.
If Iverson had been eight inches taller, he would have dominated either of them. I said it.
