The Official NBA Thread 2011-12

Free agent Lamar Odom(notes) plans to return to the champion Los Angeles Lakers with a four-year contract, according to a report on ESPN.

The deal reportedly would be worth as much as $33 million, including the Lakers' option on the fourth year of the deal.

Odom, 29, averaged 11.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists for Los Angeles last season. He had also been considering rejoining the Miami Heat, for whom he played during the 2003-04 season before joining the Lakers.

:)

Now i want to see if it's actually official.

If they can re-sign him that would definitely give them a better chance of defeating Boston, but I'll wait until it's official. Lamar is fairly overrated to me, he is one of the best ball players when he's hot, but is way too inconsistent to have the status that he does. Regardless of his inconsistency though, he is great, and LA will have a stacked team this year, almost as good as BOS.

Fuck, lost Okafor. Are the Bobcats actually TRYING to get worse?

Rubio may not EVER play NBA ball, newest rumor is he is close to a five year deal with Barcelona.

Kevin Garnett and Chris Paul are listed as the two most overrated players in the league on RealGM.com, your thoughts? And who do you guys consider the most overrated players?

Minnesota should have drafted backup guards in the event that something like this happens....Oh wait, they drafted four.
Rubio looks like a great player, but screw him if he doesn't want to compete in the best basketball league in the world. Last I heard though, was that he was going to buy out his previous contract in order to be able to play in the NBA.

As far as CP3 and KG being overrated, that's just some foolish opinion.
Is Chris Paul not the best PG in the league? People just expected too much for the Hornets this year, and I blame management for not keeping up with the primo teams, and signing/trading for key players.

And as for KG, he's a winner...straight up. That's all that matters, and all I care about, and with him in the lineup Boston wins.

Tracy McGrady spoke with FOX 26 Sports on Thursday from Chicago where he is working out.

"It's really no comparison to how I feel now and I how felt trying to play all of last season," McGrady said. "My knee is feeling extremely strong. The most important thing is I'm confident in it. You guys just stay tuned. I'm out here grinding in Chicago, trying to get back right, but yes I will be playing for the Rockets in the '09-10 season.

"I will be in uniform for the Rockets this upcoming season, I guarantee you that, and I will be a lot better than I was last year. I will be back to the player that I once was.

"I will guarantee you that."
Sounds like T-Mac is trying to make sure he stays in the league...he will play one good year and then about 4 or 5 more bogus years.

Yeah, I'll save "overrated" for players that haven't done anything, yet get put into the superstar category.
Kevin Garnett has a long list of achievements, and has earned every accolade given. He is getting older, but the Celtics were on a tear before his injury, and winning is the only legit stat. How can a guy that wins with such consistency be overrated. If anything he is underrated, because people judge him solely on his #s and not his intangible way of eking wins, and willing his team to victory. "never underestimate the heart of a champion".

It's unfair to call KG overrated. He's just getting OLD, Jesus Christ.

Danny Granger, Rip Hamilton, Ben Gordon - these guys are overrated.
I agree with Rip Hamilton, I was about to mention him.

If anything he is underrated
Yeah right. And who has ever called Hamilton, Granger or Gordon a superstar? I laughed when Hamilton made the All-Star team...

It's true that players decline with age, but hell, everyone is still saying he is so great. That's overrating his value. It's not his fault he is overrated.

"Picture this: Western Conference Finals. The 67-win Lakers is facing the 64-win San Antonio Spurs. The East is sporting the Orlando Magic against the Boston Senior Citizens. The consensus around the league is that the championship rests on whoever wins the West. The Spurs and Lakers are exchanging baskets. Artest checks Jefferson. Kobe schools Ginobli, followed by Tony Parker(notes) schooling our entire point guard rotation. Bynum is pounding Antonio McDyess(notes) down low, McDyess returns the favor with his 17-foot squishers. Gasol and Duncan are playing to a draw. Everyone is exhausted. Time to call up the bench for some key minutes. Lamar Odom stands up to check in, looking at Greg Popovich's coaching staff visibly sulk. The Spurs? They respond with: Matt Bonner(notes) or a 63-year-old (OK, 36) Theo Ratliff(notes)."
*crosses fingers*

Wish that happens next season in the West finals.

Lakers repeating as champs, their the Yankees of basketball.

Wizards are still garbage, they'll win 30 games next year. Atlanta will have the 4th seed.
