The Official NBA Thread 2011-12

Folks in Denver are starting to ask questions about J.R. Smith(notes) due to his Twitter account. The questions are all about whether he's part of the Bloods street gang, according to the Denver Post.

Smith's tweets reportedly use some similar spelling stylings that the Bloods use, such as replacing all Cs with Ks and omitting all CKs in words with just Ks.

Maybe the Bloods don't want to use the C because of the Crips? Anyway, Nuggets fans and the 15,000 who follow Smith on Twitter are supposedly starting to wonder what's up with him. Nobody knows if he even has any idea that his stuff is similar in style to the Bloods but somebody might want to let him know.

He's wearing the wrong jersey then, he should be traded to the Bulls.

So Chauncey Billups takes over as team leader and all of a sudden JR's joining a gang?

Yup, AI's better.

Kobe/Shaq for Christmas again. As if Stern couldn't make it any more obvious about who he wanted in the Finals last season. He's making sure he gets good ratings for at least 1 day of the year.

Sort of they wanted Kobe/Lebron last year and with Shaq being on the Cavs now there's a better chance we'll be seein that this year but I dunno Shaq ain't what he used to be and Boston lookin good this year too. We'll see I guess.

Olympiakos is offering Allen Iverson a $10 million contract over two years.

This offseason, Olympiakos offered Nate Robinson a contract similar to the one they are offering Iverson.
Damn, AI, please say no :(
Don't take Nate Robinson's sloppy seconds :(
You're better than that :'(

^That's gonna be a good game.

Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy(notes) has agreed to a five-year contract extension worth between $78 million and $82 million, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The Blazers are planning a news conference with Roy on Thursday to announce the deal.

After several weeks of sometimes contentious negotiations, The Oregonian reported on Wednesday that the two sides were closing on an agreement.
Roy gettin paiddddd.

Good deal.

Roy Agrees To $80M Extension

Brandon Roy could have signed a deal worth as much as $87 million over five years, but instead will be paid $80 million.

Brandon Roy and the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to terms on an $80 million contract extension, a league source told ESPN.com.

Roy is expected to sign the contract and make it official on Thursday, according to sources.

Under the latest league formulas, a max contract offer would be worth $87 million over the course of a five-year contract.

RealGM Note: Roy was ranked 12th in season FIC during the 2008-09 season, 'deserving' to make $17.81M, which gave him a Reina Value of +477%. At an annual average of $16M per season, Roy will likely be worth every penny of his contract for Portland. His willingness to take a below max deal also will make extending LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden easier for the Blazers' front office.

Sounds to me like he took a lesser deal to hopefully keep the roster packed, very admirable.

The Rubio rumors keep flooding and varying, one minute he is going back to his Spanish team, next minute he is headed to Barcelona, then all of a sudden it's back to the Wolves. NBA Hot Potato, starring Ricky Rubio.

Maybe broy stayed in portland 'cause the 87milli was coming from a weak team. Portland is a good contender now with their young talent, and old ass center haha.

Los Angeles Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis is on the brink of becoming the coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, multiple league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
What!? Oh well, i guess the Lakers staff will have to replace him.

The 87 million was the most that could theoretically be offered to him. This is an extension, not a new contract - he wasn't a free agent.

He gave up money to get the player option in his final year, not to be a good sport.

The NBA has suspended Orlando Magic forward Rashard Lewis(notes) for the first 10 games of the season after he tested positive for a testosterone-producing steroid, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

The Sentinel reported Lewis tested positive after taking a nutritional supplement at the end of last season that unknowing to him contained the banned substance.

"First and foremost I take full responsibility for the situation and accept the corresponding penalty," Lewis said in a statement. "Toward the end of the season I took an over-the-counter supplement which at the time I did not realize included a substance banned by the NBA. I apologize to Magic fans, my teammates and this organization for not doing the research that should come with good judgment."

HAHAHAHAHAHA, please don't tell me the whole baseball steroid era is crossing over to the NBA. FUCK! :x
