Kobe stayin with the Lakers:

LOS ANGELES (AP)—Kobe Bryant(notes) chose not to terminate the final two years of his contract and will remain with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Team spokesman John Black on Wednesday confirmed Bryant’s decision. The MVP of the NBA finals had until Tuesday to become an unrestricted free agent.

Now the Lakers and Bryant’s agent will negotiate a contract extension. If they somehow cannot agree, he would earn $23 million next season and could opt out next June.

However, Bryant has spent his entire 13-year career with the team, winning four NBA championships and on June 19 he said, “I’m not going anywhere. I know I ain’t going nowhere, so it’s just a waste of our breaths just talking about it.”

Bryant has urged the Lakers to bring back unrestricted free agent forwards Trevor Ariza(notes) and Lamar Odom(notes), who played key roles in the team’s recent run to its 15th NBA title.

Ariza made $3.1 million last season and his play in the finals against Orlando is expected to earn him a major pay raise. Odom made $14.1 million last season and is expected to have to take a substantial pay cut to stay.

Guard Shannon Brown(notes) is the Lakers’ third unrestricted free agent. He made $796,000 last season after coming over with Adam Morrison(notes) in the February trade that sent Vladimir Radmanovic(notes) to Charlotte.

WOW. Pistons are getting loaded...

The Detroit Pistons have reached agreement with free-agent guard Ben Gordon(notes) and forward Charlie Villanueva(notes), a source with knowledge of the talks told Yahoo! Sports Wednesday evening.

Gordon will receive a five-year contract worth around $55 million while Villanueva’s five-year deal is expected to be worth about $35 million.

Gordon and Villanueva, who played together for a year at UConn, traveled to Detroit on Wednesday morning to meet with Detroit president Joe Dumars and other Pistons front-office officials. They took a tour of the practice facility in Auburn Hills, had lunch with management and both ultimately came to terms on an agreement. Gordon agreed first and Villanueva followed soon after.

no homie, were witnessing the demise of the pistons. trust me.

gordon and hamilton or the same type of player. shooters. theyre not versatile at all. neither one wants to come off the bench, gordon didnt like it in chicage and rip kept bitchin during the season which got curry fired. i like villanueva, i thought the spurs would have a chance to sign him even thou it was slim.

piston players r uncoachable

ahhaa, demise of the pistons... sounds hard to believe with these two additions. But eh, they'll get a new coach, and with AI gone... they'll be a little more coachable.

WOW.. i go back to work on 2nd and the Pistons signed Gordon and Villanueva.

i had heard on ESPN earlier that Kobe messed up by signing for the Maximum, if he would have been smart and signed for the minimum. that would have made for more money for Odom and Ariza to resign. NOW its just gonna be Ariza getting his money and Lamar probably headin to San Antonio

ben's a fool for not re-upping with the bulls before last season. now he's stuck with the pistons through their impending mediocrity. i'm still not sold on charlie villanueva and wish he and whatever's going on with his skin had stayed on a team that doesn't get on national tv.

but chyeah, right now i bet the bobcats have a better record than the pistons next year. joe dumars is a fucking idiot for not taking the rondo trade.

why the fuck would he go to the spurs?

Because the spurs and suns are actively pirsuing odom. If odom wants a chance to contend, he'd choose the spurs. but im hoping he'll stay in LA. fuck /:

if contending is his top priority, he'll stick with la. i don't see him going to san antonio at all - lamar odom is a coastal dude.

anyhow, it seems ariza's leaning towards leaving, so odom'll probably stay and this will be a moot point.

rumors say artest gon sign with lakers
You know what, i heard the same when i read an article today. It seems like a real possibility, considering he wanted to go to the Lakers last season, right???

I think the Lakers will keep 1 of the two. If they can't pay both, they'll pay to keep 1. They can't afford to lose both. I'd rather have Ariza for his defense, shooting, and consistency. Odom said during the season he wouldn't mind staying in LA, but without a pay cut. I dont think the Lakers can afford to pay him more than he's making now. Other teams will make big offers. Odom is the #1 free-agent on the market right now...

The Minnesota Timberwolves' top draft pick, Ricky Rubio(notes), 18, will remain in Spain to play for his DKV Joventut basketball team for the remaining two years of his contract rather than try to move to the NBA this season, El Periodico reported today.
haha, just trade him to the knicks already... that's where he wants to go.

My friend just texted me saying rumor has it, Artest has verbally agreed to sign with the Lakers. :)

The Houston Rockets are meeting with Los Angeles Lakers free agent Trevor Ariza on Thursday in Las Vegas, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey confirmed.

Ariza’s agent, David Lee, has said the forward is prepared to leave the Lakers if they don’t improve upon their mid-level offer worth about $5.5 million annually.

“Right now it seems like their primary interest is trying to leverage L.A.,” one Western Conference general manager said.
Looks like ariza's gone.
