The Official NBA Thread 2011-12

I dont know about you guys... but Stephen A Smith just tweeted the following...

stephenasmith Fyi......Rasheed Wallace is Heading to Boston. The Celtics are officially the favorites for the NBA Crown.
Ha,
wow.

Shaq! Artest! Vince! Hedo! 'Sheed!

Just when you thought this NBA off-season couldn't get any crazier, comes news the Boston Celtics have reached an agreement with free agent forward/center Rasheed Wallace(notes) on a two-year deal that starts at the midlevel exemption of about $5.8 million. Globe don't lie!

The Celtics offered Wallace the contract during a three-hour meeting in Detroit on Thursday. Celtics stars Kevin Garnett(notes), Ray Allen(notes) and "Snake Eyes" Paul Pierce joined general manager Danny Ainge and managing partner Wyc Grousbeck at the meeting.

Wallace's agent, Bill Strickland, originally said his client would meet with other teams later this week, but that butter knife Garnett held to 'Sheed's throat apparently did the trick. (KG's very convincing!) Charlotte, Cleveland, Orlando, Dallas and San Antonio were said to be other suitors.

The 35-year-old Wallace can play the low post and also has exceptional shooting range. He averaged 12 points per game for the Pistons last year, before falling to just 6.5 points per game in the first round of the playoffs as Detroit was swept in four games by The LeBrons.

We'll have more on this tomorrow, but for now let's hear your take below.

Talks continue between the Pistons and Jazz about a Carlos Boozer-Rip Hamilton trade. Hamilton didn't fit with Allen Iverson this season, and he won't fit with newly acquired Ben Gordon. In fact, Gordon has become Iverson. He has no conscience when taking shots.
it makes sense to trade him

glen david supposedly goin to the spurs... get odom

DALLAS (AP)—Jason Kidd(notes) isn’t going anywhere.

The free agent point guard has agreed to sign a three-year contract for more than $25 million to remain with Dirk Nowitzki(notes) and the rest of the Mavericks. The New York Knicks were among Kidd’s suitors.

“We are excited that JKidd and the Mavs have reached an agreement to have Jason return to the Mavs,” Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said via e-mail Monday. “We look forward to him continuing to take a major role with the team.”

With the contract, the 37-year-old Kidd could end his career in Dallas, which is where he started in 1994. The Oakland, Calif., native was the No. 2 overall pick out of California, and he has also played for Phoenix and New Jersey.
Good choice for Kidd.

Grant Hill(notes) will be in New York Monday for a tour of Madison Square Garden and to meet with representatives of the New York Knicks, according to the New York Daily News.

The Knicks are hoping to sign Hill, the veteran free agent forward, to the bi-annual exception — which is worth approximately $2 million per season. It's a reasonable offer, but with the Hill being pursued by Boston and with Phoenix looking to re-sign him, the Knicks may be fighting an uphill battle, the Daily News reported.

Hill met with Celtics officials Sunday, while free agent Rasheed Wallace(notes) verbally accepted a two-year deal to join Boston, according to the Daily News.

Damn, 2 million. This guy used to be worth 20mill in his prime.

So much for LeBron James coming to New York after the 2010 season.

According to the New York Post, in a last-ditch effort to recruit Trevor Ariza(notes), LeBron James(notes) last week told Ariza he would remain with the Cavaliers past 2010, ESPN.com reported last night.

"Trevor asked LeBron if he would be in Cleveland after next season," a source said. "And LeBron said, 'I'll be there. Of course, I'll be there.' "

Unfortunately for the Cavs, Ariza, formerly of the Lakers, accepted a five-year, $33.5 million offer from the Rockets last week.

haha, sucker knicks aren't gonna get him. Hope hes not a liar.

One free agent signing down and one to go for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Shannon Brown(notes) agreed to accept $4.2 million over the next two years, with the second year his option, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The reserve guard will be back with the Lakers, but there has been no movement on Lamar Odom(notes), one of the last big-name free agents still seeking a home. Odom was on the Lakers' books for $14.1 million last season, but the Lakers are balking at his asking price of more than $10 million a season, according to the Times.

"There's really nothing to report," said a source familiar with the negotiations who wasn't authorized to talk publicly.

If the Lakers don't get Odom, whom they can basically sign without regard to the salary cap, their only other spending tool of note is the "biannual exception," in which teams over the salary cap can sign a free agent to a two-year contract starting at $1.99 million next season.
C'mon Dr. Buss... give him the cash and keep him in LA :)

lol wow didnt know hes gonna wear 37... why 37?

i hope odom doesnt sign with them
He's worn so many numbers in his career. Man, if Odom signs with us, its over. O.V.E.R. Done.

Idk if he will though.

Coveted free agent Antonio McDyess(notes) has decided to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, two sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday afternoon.

McDyess, 34, will sign a three-year deal that guarantees him $15 million.

McDyess’ decision had come down to the Spurs, Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers.

McDyess, a 6-10 forward, averaged 9.6 points and 9.8 rebounds for the Pistons last season.

The Spurs have a successful summer and thrust themselves back into championship contention. General manager R.C. Buford has retooled the team with Richard Jefferson, McDyess and a potential second-round steal in Pittsburgh forward DeJuan Blair.
Done deal. I'm gonna ship out a wheel chair to San Antonio.

As the Chicago Bulls try to compensate for the offensive loss of Ben Gordon(notes), they have agreed with free agent guard Jannero Pargo(notes) on a one-year deal worth approximately $2 million, a league source said Wednesday afternoon.

Pargo played three seasons for the Bulls (2003-’06) before moving on to New Orleans in 2007-08. He signed a $3.8 million deal with Moscow Dynamo last summer, but played only part of the season in Russia before the franchise’s financial woes caused them to buy out his contract. Pargo finished the season with Olympiakos of Greece.

Pargo averaged eight points a game for the Hornets two years ago as Chris Paul’s(notes) backup.

The Bulls are trying to replace some of the scoring load lost with Gordon departing for a $55 million deal with the Detroit Pistons.
Good addition. Pargo was sick for the Hornets. I wish he was still a Laker.

DENVER (AP)—Chris “Birdman” Andersen has reached a five-year deal to keep his high-flying, shot-blocking act with the Denver Nuggets, the team he revived his career with last season.

Andersen’s attorney, Mark Bryant, confirmed the agreement on Wednesday, saying it could be signed later in the day. The deal was first reported by the Denver Post.

Andersen, who turned 31 on Tuesday, could make up to $26 million over the lifetime of a back-loaded contract that gives the Nuggets financial flexibility.
Bleh, Birdman isn't that great. He's just a distraction with his hair-do's, and his tattoos.
