oh, and they may not be heartless. but they're closer to heartless than heartful. shit is all about money. i may be cynical, but to say otherwise is NAIVE as fuck my man.
you know nothing and LOL at you calling me naive. i have been in the music industry my entire life. my cousins sold millions of records before I was even 5 years old and I've been on a major label, releasing albums and doing world tours since I was 16.

My opinion on this matter is an inside one and yours is not. While there are shady people in this industry - most people actually care for the wellbeing of the artists they work with above all else. Fact.

i guess that puts me in my place then. i didn't realize i was dealing with an industry veteran and superstar here!

i was under the impression an artist's management/publicist's job was to make the most money possible for a particular artist through good publicity and eventually increased sales. isn't that why you would hire them? i guess they're more like a therapist then, no? my bad.

I find this funny.

Taylor Swift really made it look good for her. In this video she turned it into a wannabe-cute-funneh that most dumb bitches fall for.

However she succeeded with me getting to be aware of her existence.

Well, now you know.

i was under the impression an artist's management/publicist's job was to make the most money possible for a particular artist through good publicity and eventually increased sales. isn't that why you would hire them? i guess they're more like a therapist then, no? my bad.
Don't get sarcastic with me, junior.

Of course that's their job. But very rarely is it "under any means necessary", with one of those means being exploitation of the artists wellbeing.

I called you out on your cynicism which was based on an uneducated, outsiders perspective, and I informed you of the truth of how it is in an industry that I have been a part of my entire life, this is my career and my livelihood.

There's no need for you to get defensive just because you were wrong.

Every day I speak to artists, management, A&R's, label bosses, PR guys, publicists, tour managers, attorneys, booking agents, TV and radio hosts, DJ's, songwriters, journalists, bloggers, show promoters, club owners.

Simple fact is you don't know how this industry operates unless you are a part of it. If you are not, you see things from a media skewered perspective.

To say "shit is all about money" like you have all the answers indicates that you are probably a hardheaded, angsty teenager with a limited understanding of how the world operates.

Some of you going on about "well I didn't know who she was till now" like that's some sort of amazing valid point is laughable. Think about the context before you say anything. You are hip-hop fans posting on a hip-hop message board. Taylor Swift is a country artist. 99% of you probably can't name more than 5 artists in her genre. Doesn't take anything away from the fact that she's already the biggest selling artist of the year. Country is a huge genre but it generally operates in it's own media space outside of pop and MTV. Very few people who know now who Taylor Swift is but didn't before are going to go out and buy her album just because of this. If you were already into her kind of music you'd know who she was, and already have her music anyway.

Real talk though, if anybody did have a hand in setting this up for personal gain, there's one person I'm looking at - Matthew Knowles. Now that guy is shady as fuck and through my people at Sony I'm all too familiar with his asshole tactics and bullying. By giving Beyonce the opportunity to "right the wrong" by bringing Taylor back out, B came out looking the best in the situation.

is that you, budden?
If that was somehow supposed to be directed at me, then:

A) I don't get it.

and

B) No. Joe Budden is one of the most garbage ass artists out there, and despite having listened to every song people on here who like him have recommended I listen to, I still think he sucks.

For some reason I think that Taylor Swift is to country music what Soulja Boy is to hip-hop.
I checked her out and her songs don't sound too country to me and I know more than 5 country artists :p

casey rain:

whatever. i don't see how you can argue this hasn't been a positive thing for taylor swift. like... can you honestly not see that? you're right - i don't have industry experience, but i have common sense. if you can't see how this is has been a good thing for her then you're a fool, i don't care if you're russell fucking simmons.

well, at least we can agree on something!

until she turned 18 she was like both of the olsen twins put together.

she's got country music millions, she doesn't give a fuck whether the rest of us know who she is or not.

I think that some of her singles don't sound "country" though. Like I said in the other thread I think she's a Soulja Boy to country music.

I never said I couldn't see how it was good for her. My point was only that the picture you were painting of money hungry industry people rubbing their hands together in glee and "popping champagne" over this whole affair was a very cynical, exaggerated and unrealistic portrayal of them.
