i guess that puts me in my place then. i didn't realize i was dealing with an industry veteran and superstar here!
Well, now you know.
i was under the impression an artist's management/publicist's job was to make the most money possible for a particular artist through good publicity and eventually increased sales. isn't that why you would hire them? i guess they're more like a therapist then, no? my bad.
Don't get sarcastic with me, junior.
Of course that's their job. But very rarely is it "under any means necessary", with one of those means being exploitation of the artists wellbeing.
I called you out on your cynicism which was based on an uneducated, outsiders perspective, and I informed you of the truth of how it is in an industry that I have been a part of my entire life, this is my career and my livelihood.
There's no need for you to get defensive just because you were wrong.
Every day I speak to artists, management, A&R's, label bosses, PR guys, publicists, tour managers, attorneys, booking agents, TV and radio hosts, DJ's, songwriters, journalists, bloggers, show promoters, club owners.
Simple fact is you don't know how this industry operates unless you are a part of it. If you are not, you see things from a media skewered perspective.
To say "shit is all about money" like you have all the answers indicates that you are probably a hardheaded, angsty teenager with a limited understanding of how the world operates.
Some of you going on about "well I didn't know who she was till now" like that's some sort of amazing valid point is laughable. Think about the context before you say anything. You are hip-hop fans posting on a hip-hop message board. Taylor Swift is a country artist. 99% of you probably can't name more than 5 artists in her genre. Doesn't take anything away from the fact that she's already the biggest selling artist of the year. Country is a huge genre but it generally operates in it's own media space outside of pop and MTV. Very few people who know now who Taylor Swift is but didn't before are going to go out and buy her album just because of this. If you were already into her kind of music you'd know who she was, and already have her music anyway.
Real talk though, if anybody
did have a hand in setting this up for personal gain, there's one person I'm looking at - Matthew Knowles. Now that guy is shady as fuck and through my people at Sony I'm all too familiar with his asshole tactics and bullying. By giving Beyonce the opportunity to "right the wrong" by bringing Taylor back out, B came out looking the best in the situation.
If that was somehow supposed to be directed at me, then:
A) I don't get it.
and
B) No. Joe Budden is one of the most garbage ass artists out there, and despite having listened to every song people on here who like him have recommended I listen to, I still think he sucks.
