Sometimes it does in fact erase files when upgrading to a new version but it's not like it does it by itself. You're told that this will happen so back up everything.

lol, sorry. I've been posting late on SH for the past few months and dead tired, trying to clear my mind, by rambling.

What I meant was, the whole thing would reset, like a factory reset.

Just recently, my sister (like a week ago) or so, got an HTC phone from At&t and it did a factory reset on her 2x. She's going to go get it replaced soon.

My friend has a G1, and he sells them with Verizon, and it's happened to him 2x. (Though, he's had it since it came out).

and a couple of other devices that I don't know exactly what they were had that problem, but mainly just "SD cards" and phone books get erased . . . before anything was even "upgraded" about them.

In short: I'm not talking shit about androids, nor am I asking for advice on which one to pick, since I won't be in the android market for a while.

I thought it was known that these devices do that, and I was just asking (if it was known to you guys) if they had "stopped" doing that with the new devices coming out.

I have not heard of this problem and I know quite a few people with Android devices. But your contacts and calendar are synced to your GMail so even if it does reset, you can sync again and retrieve them.

they may have downloaded an app which exploited their phone. they should always check what the app has access to. if you do, you cant go wrong. however, unsafe or malicious apps will be removed by google but there's the small minority of people who will be affected while the app remains in the market for download.
the risk is very low anyway.

Well, the G1 is not on VZW nor can it be put on the network. So I dunno what that's about.

HTC makes WinMo phones as well, either the old ones of the new Win7 phones. You sure it's an HTC from AT&T running Android?

All these people experiencing factory resets...have they taken them in for warranty replacements? Or just for them to take a look? What did the store owners say?

Yeah, I was gonna say G1 on Verizon isn't possible.

It is definitely not known that Android phones, or any phone for that matter, erase anything. Probably a user problem

Just a quote, because I think its too early to make such a drastic prediction:

Exactly. More than likely they overpriced it a little to begin with just in case. This thing will really take off when they add Android Market to it and there's a few awesome third party apps developed with Google TV in mind. Look at Android itself and the market share difference from when the G1 launched in late '08 to now. Google TV needs that same amount of time to build market share as it's a new paradigm for TV, not just another product identical to everything else.

Wait, as I understand it won't only be built-in some TVs but there'll be an option to easily buy an external set-top box and connect it to any other TV, right?

That would make buying a model with this built-in not really worth it. Unless it was an overall great TV.
I mean - I understand manufacturers not willing to install this in their TVs if it's just a matter of buying a separate device running it.

It doesn't work good on older Android devices. Even I had to download modified 3d drivers to run it well.
