I was reading Touchwiz was due for an overhaul soon. Are the tiles part of it? That would suck.

I too don't like the left-side menu on maps. There is nothing of use there for me.

Also, Masta, do you have the 2012 or 2013 N7? And any word on the 2014 N7?

I've been using my sister' iPad 2 to watch my lecture videos. I prefer it to my computer only because the keyboard gets in the way while taking notes and annotating a book at the same time. There's not enough room on my desk for all three. At least not comfortably. But I feel like if the screen on the tablet were 7" and propped up like the iPad, it would be too small and maybe uncomfortable. Still can't properly estimate/simulate what it would feel like compared to the iPad 2's screen.

There's a really terrible redesign of Touchwiz on current tablets and there are apparently official renders of beta of new UI for phones and it's terrible. Obviously the world hates tiles and Samsung in their urge to "take and improve" popular things also did this to shitty tiles and tried to use it in their UI for some really disturbing reasons. At least that's how the renders look like.
Hope it won't be true, since I like the functionality of Touchwiz. On one hand, Samsung always gives you choices so I'm sure it'll be possible to pick the regular UI, but if not I'll have to root AND I'll feel less convinced to buy the S5 unless it's spectacular like leaks claim it'll be.

I have the 2012 N7. No word on the 2014 version, since the 2013 one is still quite new.
I also currently have the Ipad Air from Hong Kong. I'm gonna sell it. I don't like it at all. I mean - the hardware is nice, the display is mediocre but the small bezels and light weight are cool. I just wish it had a reasonable OS because iOS sucks balls more than anything else on a tablet.

My mum is thinking about the Air. If the Nexus 10.2 came out, I could probably sell it to her.

I am due an upgrade in May. Do I get an S5? Or simply switch to a cheaper Tariff and stick with the N4. At the moment, probably the latter.

I have a friend that dropped his S4 and fucked up the digitizer. The screen is fine, but the digitizer needs to be replaced. And it's a $199 part. Which Samsung was offering to fix for $130.

He's opted to buy a new phone, though he claims he can't afford the repairs on the phone. So he sold his S4 on Craigslist for $130 and I think he's going to move his upgrade early and get one under contract. Or some shit.

It just didn't make sense, what he was doing. But I now know no one with a Samsung phone that does not currently have a fucked up screen. My S3 and a friend's is cracked in almost the same place. Another friend cracked his S4. And now this digitizer shit.

I could use my parents' upgrade since New Year's but I think I'm going to keep this S3 for as long as I can. Resale on this thing will be a bitch because it has a broken screen so I might as well run it into the ground before upgrading. Also, Sprint needs to fix its coverage in my home area. In my house, I get shit data speeds. Everywhere else, I am flying along at LTE speeds, downloading my CM nightlies daily within 5 minutes. Thing is, I'm never out the house to enjoy it. So Sprint needs to fix it in my home.

If my sister just told me to keep her iPad 2, I'd actually be pretty happy and would take her up on it. It's what I need and I actually don't really need the Retina display of the Air. It would certainly be nice, but prices are outrageous. I'd rather splurge on the 2014 Note 10.1. That S Pen might be a gimmick but I like it. I could definitely do more with it than I could on an iPad's multitasking thing.

What is the difference between the Tab and the Note 10.1?

Funny, I don't know a single person with a broken glass or digitizer on a Samsung phone. Every Iphone's screen is crushed though. I dropped my S4 a couple of times and fortunately it's 100% good except of some tiny marks at the back and sides. That doesn't bother me though.

You mean the brand new 2014 models, with the 2k screens? The Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1? Just the pen and digitizer and sometimes chipset.

I agree with Masta.

I dropped my N4 a month or 2 ago. Running on concrete. It landed right on the edge. Which cracked the back. It then slid down the screen for about 20-30 metres. Not a scratch on the front.

I see. It is still a steep asking price, especially compared to the iPad Air.

So I also have been living a lie for the past 18 months, or so. Turns out the iPad my sister had was indeed an iPad 3, not an iPad 2 like I had been assuming it was all this time. So while I was looking at the screen and admiring at how beautiful it was, I did not realize it was the Retina display. It certainly looked HD, but I thought the Retina display was even better than that. Funny what a name can do to you. My sister was given this iPad from her school, so there was no box or anything. I ended up doing a serial number search on Apple's website and I was shocked to learn it was a third-gen iPad. Fuck me.

So I jailbroke it and still didn't notice much of a difference. I think I might be finally off the iPad, now. If the Air is the same screen I've been looking at for the past 1.5 years, just lighter and a faster chipset, I'm ok without it.

I think we're at a point now with the N7 that getting one now at $229 may not be the best idea since the new one should be out this summer sometime. And I'm sure the improvements this time will be bigger than just a nicer screen and camera. I need a gimmick now. :)

I was disappointed with the screen on the Air. The first retina screens were made by Samsung and LG and were IPS-based. The new ones are IGZO displays, which conserve power but have inferior viewing angles. The viewing angles and backlight bleed are pretty severe on the AIR, and that's comparing to the Nexus 7's LCD, not AMOLED of course. Overall I'm not satisfied with the display on the Ipad Air. It's the worst one out of any device I have, even though it's decent during daylight and calibration is very good - but the panel is not.

If I was shopping for a tablet I'd get the Nexus 7, The 8 inch tablet from LG or one of Samsung 10 inchers or the Asus T100 with Windows. I am selling the Ipad Air I have as we speak.

It's up to you but you're buying a new tablet for like a year now, right? :p
The Nexus 7 is so cheap you can just grab one and sell it once a new one comes out.
There are rumors of an Intel-based Nexus 8. Also, there was no 2013 Nexus 10, which is surprising. Seems like an upadate to that one is not coming.

Yeah, I've been looking for a tablet for some time now. Not quite a year but maybe 9 months. At least not seriously. I really like the SmartCover for the iPad, since it props the tablet up for viewing videos just right. I haven't seen something similar for other devices. I've seen props, but not with the functionality of the smart cover.

Are tablet screens going to get any better? I'm talking about everything but efficiency. I know that is coming slowly. But will there be higher res screens? Or maybe more sensitive ones? Different kind of glass? Because I don't see much more happening with tablet updates now, other than minor hardware upgrades. But chipsets are so powerful as they are in newer tablets, I don't see needing an octo-core 9 Ghz CPU anytime soon.

It was weird seeing the N10 snubbed last year. Did it sell well? I think the N7 stole the thunder from the iPad because of its price, but I think the iPad maintained the benefits over the N10 with screen and power and all that. I could be wrong, but the N10 was also a bit too pricey.

If anyone is looking for a 2013 N7, it's on eBay for $200 right now. I should have jumped on a tablet during Black Friday. The iPad Air was $479 and came with a $100 gift card for Target. Also, Staples had the N7 for $200 and then there was a coupon for 15% off. Could've had it for $180 with tax, probably.

Shit. :(

Moto X is finally coming out in the UK next week. No Moto Maker website as yet though. Wonder if it'll sell.

I've heard about a Moto G Google Play Edition phone (basically the same phone but without the bloatware). I just disabled those features on my Dad's phone - just a shame that it uses up the limited 6GB-8GB on board memory.

I also read an interesting article which claims that Google might be scrapping the Nexus programme altogether and opt for Google Play edition devices instead to get vanilla (Google Experience) Android onto more devices with better hardware. I will be disappointed if this happens because the Google Play edition devices will cost so much more than Nexus devices... unless Google can offer them for much cheaper prices on Google Play.

I don't get why I can't answer texts from the Hangout app on my Hangouts Chrome extension. I can send messages from Chrome to Hangout messages. But not to people I've texted. The texts aren't showing up in the Hangouts Chrome app.

And yes, Hangouts is my default SMS app, for now, just to try it out.

This is coonshit, though.

Lmao, so Motorola now out of nowhere belongs to Lenovo, Google sold it for 3 billion (they bought it a year and a half ago for 12 billion). They kept some of the patents, however. Motorola was leaking money but once Lenovo moves manufacturing to their factories they can still save it. Quality was already low, so if anything it will only improve now, since Lenovo knows how to make quality stuff.

At the same time Google signs a deep partnership agreement with Samsung and now they're sharing all patents.

At the same time Lenovo, the Chinese company owns big American players now - Motorola and IBM (hardware division).

Also, as part of the agreement, Google got Samsung to take TouchWiz round the back of the barn and shoot it in the head. About time too. Fuck TouchWiz, you will not be missed.

I'm 100% certain Samsung will not abandon TouchWiz. I like Touchwiz. It's much more functional and mature that Google's UI, even though I agree Samsung should cut on bloatware, which is what apparently Google told Samsung to do. I'm also sure Google will introduce many features from TouchWiz as part of that agreement.

The S5 will surely come with TouchWiz or some other skin.
