can someone explain LTE to me?

I can still get 4G with this device, right? Like, Internet will be faster than my Nexus S? If so, I don't give a shit about LTE.

So, I will be buying this phone, of course, the 8 gig version. Why buy 16gigs? Most of the stuff that used to take up space can now be stored in the cloud. I'll get the unlocked one because I don't want to extend my T-Mobile contract. I found out recently that I have 11 months left. I went to Verizon and talked to them and tried to figure out the best deal for me and basically I can't economically justify switching over to Verizon and buying an iPhone. It'd be about $30 dollars more per month and I'd have to pay to get out of my contract early.

I think this Nexus 4 will be solid for at least a year and then I'll re-evaluate once my two years are up.
Nexus 4 is the most future-proof phone on the market right now. I'd also get the 8gig version and I'm almost 100% positive that it's going to be my next phone. Enough to store my apps, music and temporary photos and yeah, I use cloud for the rest as well. I have 8gig on my current phone and 8gig on my Nexus 7 and it's enough as well (It only bothered me once when I wanted to store more than 2 HD movies for a trip, which I wouldn't watch anyway)

As far as LTE goes it goes by the name 4G sometimes as well (every carrier uses the name "4G" to describe a totally different technology).
If you're on T-mobile in the US, they don't have LTE anyway so no worries there. Their '4G' is in fact HSPA+, which the Nexus 4 has the fastest modem for. It'll be faster than your Nexus S because of that and also because of faster chipset (the one on Nexus S limited download speeds as well).

Now let me explain why the LTE thing is really stupid. The Nexus 4 is a GSM device and most LTE networks in the US are not even GSM. Only SOME At&t customers could take advantage of it and I suppose most AT&T users are Iphone lovers who diss the Nexus 4 for having an alternative tech (HSPA+).
Also, HSPA+ runs at up to 42 megabit per second on T-mobile, which is ridiculously fast for any mobile device. The modem on Nexus S is capped at 7,2mbps plus the chipset limits download speeds so in reality you're rarely going to reach that.
Nexus 4, however, has a 21Mbps HSPA+ modem which is 3 times as fast on paper and the chipset will not limit its speeds because it's awesome like that.
In reality, most servers are capped lower though. Even the Google Play store will cap you at about 15 megabits per second for app downloads. Most info services will send data even slower. HSPA+ is as fast as you might need your phone downloads to be at the moment and Nexus 4's modem can take full advantage of T-mobile's current capabilities.

Like Flipmo, I am also tempted to sell my S3 and purchase one of these.

Or just keep the S3, and buy this, as it's so reasonable. But... That would be a waste....

Since the Google event was cancelled I think this is a cool thing to watch:

New Nexus devices in a nutshell. The features are so freaking cool that it makes me want the Nexus 4 now.

I got a 32GB N7 the other day btw. It's so fun to use. I haven't spent much time on it yet though as I've been extremely busy lately. I bought it the day before it officially went on sale.. I just had to get one just in case they got sold out. My screen protectors arrived today as well :)

Going to London on Saturday - so that's my in car entertainment sorted... just need to tether from my phone for internet as it's the wi-fi only model.

I hope the 8GB one drops to about £99. I'd buy that one too for my parents.

The Verge's NEXUS 4 review
They really took shots for not giving LTE, but I say - who gives a blue fuck?
I was extremely surprised. Seems like it affected the whole review, the way they described the phone. Perhaps they hired a noob at the verge.
It's surprising he mentions that the Galaxy Nexus had a "weak display"! And this AND the lack of LTE made him want to switch. Crazy dude.

He goes on in almost every paragraph with things like " alarming lack of LTE — which makes it tough to see how this stacks up fully against the competition." and "There's no way to ignore the lack of LTE".
Then in the connectivity section he said "call quality and reception was excellent on the phone. I only had one dropped called while testing, and general sound and clarity was top notch" and at the end gave a "call quality - 6/10 score". He's clearly whining about lack of LTE again.
WHAT THE heck MAN?!

This dude complains about a "washed out" display, which is a pretty obvious observation coming from the Galaxy Nexus (despite the fact this guy said it has a "Weak display"). That's what you always feel when coming from Samsung's Amoled to IPS LCD.

Judging by the pictures and raw data provided by the review the phone looks pretty damn fine. It scored lower than the Galaxy Nexus, SGS3 and even Iphone 5 and HTC One X despite the fact that he said "It's easily the best Android phone on the market, save for one small thing(lack of LTE)". I would fire the reviewer. He makes uncomfortably many Lumia 920 comparisons, even though I can't comprehend how you can compare these two.

One thing that looks like a really, really bad move was the glass coating on the back. I take good care of my phones but even I do drop my phone once in a while. This basically means cracking the cover, like with the Iphone 4. Really a silly move.

Good thing is they used the Sony camera module (same as the Xperia Arc and Iphone 5) and Google worked on it, so LG couldn't screw up the drivers too much, so the quality is pretty nice and low-light shots are pretty awesome:

edit: I just peeped at the comments and found out that the whole comment section is basically giving this dude shit about his LTE, lol

I'm going to pick one up at some point. Would prefer a used one for under £200. But I may buy a new one. I want one to play with, and it's sooooooo cheap.

LTE used to bother me. I had a shot at Apple about it. But you need about 27 different chips, so what's the fucking point....! I also realised I can't get HSDPA everywhere anyway. So... I wouldn't get LTE everywhere either.

I am happy to pick up such a cheap phone, that's actually pretty high end for such a low price.

Sooo reading all those Nexus 10 reviews there's a clear conclusion that it's the best 10 inch tablet around, blowing away all the competition hardware wise, and it's priced 100$ lower than the iPad. The only point that reviewers make for the iPad is the app quality. I have to agree, but the difference is getting smaller and smaller.

So it's the first time I'm so in love with the Nexus line. Now Google have the best smartphone, the best 7 inch tablet and the best 10 inch tablet on the market. All for insanely low prices. Seriously, that's revolutionary. Each of those devices. I've never admired Google as much as I do now (geek-wise, no homo).
