I liked one song on Vinnie Paz' previous solo album. That was Keep Moving On. I thought it was a break from what he usually raps about. I don't know how people can still listen to Vinnie Paz. He's had zero artistic growth since I began listening to Jedi Mind back in the early 2000s. The only thing that changed is that he's not rapping on Stoupe's beats, but on cheap knock-offs instead.

To be fair, You Can't be Neutral on a Moving Train is pretty good.

I've always been a fan of the production of that whole group's albums. They were dark and gloomy beats, but still good. Now, they've fallen off hard.

Vinnie is a funny character; he converted to Islam and blames the others for attacking Islam for being "violent" and whatnot, yet his solutions involve "problem-solvers" and other forms of violence. And he drinks, yet openly admits it's against Islam yet he still does it. It's uncanny.

Still, whenever I see an AOTP, JMT, or any solo artist from that group come out with an album, I give them a shot. But they've been letdowns the last few times.

I see. I do have an invite to What.cd if anyone needs one. I know you don't use torrents, but it would be near impossible for me to upload a several hundred MB file.

I'm anxious to try it out, but I don't have much I can compare it with.

And it sounds like I won't be able to put the high quality stuff on my iPod, either.

What would be the best balance between quality and diminishing returns on it? What format would be good for someone using computer speakers, car speakers, and the headphones that came with my GS3 to listen to music?
It's pretty subjective, but you need some pretty good equipment to notice any difference (and a lot of high end AV marketing is bullshit). You can always try a decent MP3 and some FLAC stuff, and see if you can notice a difference. Is size that much of an issue, can't you just grab the big stuff?

It's true, mister.

I knew exactly what to expect from Vinnie and ILL BILL's album and as expected, I was bored. That whole scene of rap is dead to me. As much as I dislike the subculture around a lot of modern rap and don't even really like the music I welcome it with open arms. At least it's refreshing rather than by-the-numbers boring as shit music from a style that stagnated more than a decade ago.

I can, but you mentioned what I was thinking about; if given the simple equipment I have at my disposal, would a 900MB file be noticeably different from a 300MB file with better quality than simple MP3? What is it called, VBR? 320 kbps? I dunno. I'm not audiophile in that sense.

I have listened to the album for the past week. It doesn't disappoint. Kendrick is everything I hoped for. He is coming back to the UK. I don't know if I'll be able to persuade people to come with me, but I would like to hear GKMC live, as Section 80 was awesome live.

If you aren't feeling this album... Hip-Hop has lost you... *Looks at Shyne*

Although, he needs to make better tracks with Dre. Compton and WWW are shite... in comparison to the rest of the album, and his mixtape stuff too.

Here is a group you guys can listen to.

Clear Soul Force. They're out of Detroit. They have a more 90's sound to em, along the lines of de la and tribe, sort of. They're just not your typical run of the mill rapper of today. Some genuine guys though.

Here is a little day in the life doc Red Bull did

Some tunes

Here is their bandcamp for their album Detroit Revolutions. I bought it for 5 dollars but you can do $0 if you want and still download it.

Gonna check em out ASAP. Just listened to a little of the beat and the flow and that is exactly what I was looking for.

Yeah I read about that. I read most music providers were going to do that. I makes sense considering the amount of storage and speeds available to us now. To be honest it's bit past due.

I'm talking about modern-day bands, not bands on their way out. Stuff started post 2000. Radiohead and Coldplay have been out for a while. What is something relatively new that is looking promising?

But I guess I'm not that deep into rock either. I have picked up heavily on the suggestions from friends on classic rock.

Just fed up with music right now, hip hop especially. Deadmau5 disappointed, so it's not like the other genres are flourishing too.
Dude, what?! I'm of the exact opposite opinion. Music is flourishing right now. Check out the song I'm about to post (and all the previous songs Chronic, Ristol and I have posted in that thread as well) in the What Are you listening to thread.

Some bands/artists that are "new" that you should be checking out:

M83
Grouplove
Of Monsters and Men
The Airborne Toxic Event
Matthew Good
Bloc Party
City and Colour
Cage the Elephant
Seether
Shinedown
The Naked and Famous
Mike Doughty (thanks Ristol)
Broken Social Scene
The Lumineers

Granted all of these artists are indie/alternative/rock/whatever it's being called these days. But it should be a good start to find something you like. I'm still as music obsessed as I was at 13, but obviously because of life I can't listen as much as I'd to. If I could, I'd be surrounded by music 24/7.

@Sofi, never realized it until you posted it, but damn I too miss getting high and listening to music. Adulthood eh?

If you can't see the depth in Sopranos, I question the validity of your degree.
Yes, because a geology/minerals/resources degree should confer critical skills when it comes to drama and such. "Hydrogeological issues on The Wire are of the utmost importance when dealing with a city like Baltimore. On the other hand, in The Sopranos, it's my belief that the Jersey mob clearly favored gas over expensive oil sands. Therefore, I feel The Wire was a better show."
