As a Lakers fan:

- I don't hate the Spurs. I respect every championship they won no matter how boring it was to watch. Lakers lead them 34-18 in the post season anyway.

- The Celtics rivalry is historic and will live forever. You have to understand, the Celtics own the Lakers, prison bitch style.

- Pistons are an irrelevant team to me. I didn't even know there was a rivalry till today.

dude, you're not 50 years old. shut up. you didn't live it, you read it.
Wow. Total ignorance displayed. I'm shocked at you.

Look, man. People who root for a certain team are allowed to claim that team's history. That's just how it works. So what if I was a month old when the Mets won the World Series in 1986? I still feel affection for that team and get chills when I watch the highlights. Kobe's allowed. What I'm trying to say is: whatever to your bullshit.

You're trying to challenge something fundamental to every real fan of a team. YOU SHUT UP.

You missed the point by about a mile. You can claim your team's history and have legitimate affection for its past triumphs, but you can't claim the hate for the other team if it was before your time. The hate is artificial.

The reality is, there's no Lakers - Celtics rivalry. It doesn't exist in the present time. It hasn't existed in the last like 20 years. Just because the Lakers got blown out by like 40 points a few years back in the Finals does not become a rivalry. So I don't accept the hate. I dismiss it, like when a little kid comes up to you and argues something and you just slap him away cause his opinion doesn't matter.

Ridiculous premise.

First of all, Kobe's hatred of the Celtics is totally legit: they played each other in the Finals less than two years ago.

Second, no, I didn't miss your point. You're just upset that I exposed it as retarded. You're contradicting yourself: if the love of your own team is legit, then the hate for any team that's ever caused them trouble is also legit. You can't have it both ways.

Third, THAT TOTALLY WASN'T YOUR POINT. IT'S JUST WHAT YOU'RE MAKING IT NOW TO TRY TO WIN THE ARGUMENT. You are arguing like a Sports Gingrich.

If you're not, like, a real sports fan, just stay out of the arguments, okay? It's personal, it's inherited, it's weird, it's insane, but it's not superficial. Don't do that. You don't know what you're talking about.

I am not. Yes, I can have it both ways. Your premise is built on the notion that love for your favorite team exists in relation to the hate for another. I'm merely looking it as an absolute value. "I like the Lakers because of how they play" as opposed to "I like the Lakers because they beat the Clippers two days ago".

I've decided to type this in caps, because it's important:

ONE GAME TWO DAYS AGO IS A LOT DIFFERENT FROM ONE NBA FINALS TWO YEARS AGO.

Seriously? What's your problem?

You can claim your team's history and have legitimate affection for its past triumphs, but you can't claim the hate for the other team if it was before your time. The hate is artificial.
That doesn't make sense. To me at least.

"Just because the Lakers got blown out by like 40 points a few years back in the Finals does not become a rivalry."
If anything, that added to the rivalry. Just because the Celtics became irrelevant for a long time, it doesn't mean the rivalry died.

Liverpool FC haven't won the premier league for ages. Why do they still have a rivalry with Manchester United?

What about a 7 Game Finals series?

I got pissed at the Celtics because of Pierce, KG and most of the Celtics attitudes during that series. Not because of any past series.

It is a continuing rivalry because they have the most Championships so it's always going to be there when they meet in the Finals. And because the Lakers got embarrassed in the Series before.
