Ryan Dunn of Jackass killed in Car Crash

i dont drink drive, and i am the dumbest mother fucker on here. wtf guys.

I have twice. Both times I was on an emotional low and regretted it when sober and clear headed.

I have been a passenger dozens of times when I was younger. Not so often these days, and I have refused a lift a couple of times. It's silly, sometimes it seems easier to get in a car with a drunk than to spend £30 on a taxi.

On topic: RIP. I was a fan of Ryan Dunn/Jackass

I don't drink so I can't offer any first hand information here but the one time I was slightly tipsy.. I didn't want to walk.. there's absolutely NO WAY I'd have tried to ride a bicycle, let alone drive a car.

Slightly off topic, people seem to be constantly looking for someone to blame. How about yourselves? Peers? Each other? We live in a society that worships people like Ryan Dunn. He made a career out of doing absolutely ridiculous nonsense. And he dies after doing something ridiculous and everyone wants to say it's "X" fault. Its the fault of the culture. A monster was created. He's been rich since he was young, no responsibilities really, an adrenaline junky.. he did exactly what anyone who knows him would've expected him to do.. something wreckless. Unfortunately, this time it ended his life. Fortunately, no one else was injured in the process. I don't think it's fair to judge someone for doing exactly what we would expect them to do and even honor them for doing. If a NA Football player dies from an aneurysm from repeated head injuries, do we blame him because he was playing a dangerous sport? IDK that there's much of a difference outside of the fact that one is socially acceptable and one (drinking/driving) isn't. IDK just a few random thoughts.

Either way... RIP.

That is not a fair comparison.

Its not like RD was filming an episode of jackass, which involved drink driving and he died.
If the football player went out, thinking he was a tough guy and started fighting with someone at a bar.. then died from injuries.. people would be saying the same things about him that they are about RD.

If RD died as the toy car he shoved up his ass got stuck (see the first jackass) then people would say he knew the risks blah blah blah.
You cant say he didnt know the risks of drink driving, even adrenaline junkies know those risks and he because of his peers, upbringing or whatever. He chose to ignore them.

The difference between the risk of bungee jumping and the risk of drink driving is social acceptance. Drink Driving is reckless, has been conditioned into us at every opportunity. And putting the lives of others at risk is morally wrong.

Well, yeah. Isnt that obvious?

Of course it is socially unacceptable to kill someone.

Totally besides the point but: why do you write "RIP"? Do you believe believe in an afterlife? Who/What part of him should rest in peace? His soul? Im curious.

Plus, vg is right. Synfuls comparison didnt make sense.

I think RIP is just the way people say commiserations, not really taking the meaning into account. Although he is resting in peace. Whether conscious of it or not. I use it myself.

Ah, ok.

I was thinking about what i would say in german. And i would never say the german equivalent for "rest in peace". Precisely because of my non-belief in an afterlife etc. So i was curious if its just a language thing.

She meant Routing Information Protocol (RIP). It's what happens to people after they die, since all we really are is information.

IDK how it's not a fair comparison. Each one has risks, right? Each one involves a person deciding to take those risks? Each one has a situation where a person many injure someone else as well as their own person? The difference is social acceptance. I'm not saying drinking and driving is right.. i'm just saying (outside of social acceptance) what makes one situation worst than the other?

From your post, it seems like you mean the difference is that in one instance someone was employed and the other instance someone was just doing something casually. So, let's not assume the person playing NA football is professional.. say it's just a kid on the street playing at a local park with friends. He makes a bad tackle, somehow kills himself and his friend in the process... why is that situation not as bad as a situation where someone is drinking under the influence of alcohol?? Is it simply that one is legal and the other is illegal? What makes one situation so horrible and the other not? That's all I'm asking.

It's just one of those things. No I don't believe in an after life. My using the term, honestly is a combination of force of habit and the fact that I can't think of another way to express the emotion that accompanies the feeling that comes along with knowing someone you knew of died and feeling bad about it in a disconnected kind of way. I also occasionally say "bless you" when someone sneezes. *shrug*

Oh yeah, and how did it not make sense? Because one is legal and one isn't? Because you have an emotional response to one but not the other? I'm not being sarcastic, i'd like an honest response. Based on my first posting and my above posting.. how can the two situations not be compared? Or.. if I give another example. Instead of NA Football, let's go with ice hockey. It's very dangerous, even when played properly with the right protective gear it's possible than someone suffers a concussion, a knocked out tooth, and yes, death. It's not impossible than in a "freak accident" whilst playing you accidentally kill another player. You do something dangerous, you know it's dangerous, but playing hockey is socially acceptable. So no one says "that player deserved to die." Again, i'm not saying that what he did was right by any means.. i'm just saying.. what makes one life taken by doing something dangerous worth less than another life taken by doing something dangerous outside of the fact that one is socially acceptable and the other isn't.
