It's different because the Footballer's intent is to play within the rules of the game. In most cases trains to be as safe as possible. They are in complete control of themselves. There are umpires and 3rd party people responsible for keeping it safe. If someone goes outside of the rules of the game they get punished, ejected, suspension fines etc.
The person who drives drunk is relying on their super power abilities to control a vehicle while their reflexes are impaired, their vision is impaired and are not clear headed. They are in an environment where there is no predictability.
If your point is that sports are dangerous I think that's a different argument.
Saying that RD was not responsible for his actions, and that we as a society are because we allowed him to make a living off doing stupid pranks is ridiculous. It is concerning that we can create such interest in seeing grown men put toy cars up their arse that they can make such a good living off it, but it's not to blame for making him do this.
Ryan Dunn is to blame for this, its harsh but true. He chose to drive drunk. As simple as that.
