Film & TV The Official watch this good movie thread

I don't know if somebody else before mention 'Man On Fire'. This is the great movie. Denzel Washington has the main role. Beside him, you'll see Christopher Walken & Marc Anthony. Denzel plays former goverment operative who became hopeless but suddenly his old friend found him new job - job of bodyguard in the Mexico. Soon, girl, which he was keeping, was kidnapped. In the world of lybirinths in the Mexican society he's trying to save her from the certain death. During that time he'll recover himself as man. The movie is based on the true events and it's full of powerful messages. Must see in my opinion.

^^ Fucking superb movie. Dakota Fanning (sp?) acts incredibly and well beyond her years. A five star in all aspects, including script writing (" 'I'm just a professional' I'm getting sick and tired of hearing that, that's what every keeps telling me: 'I'm just a professional.. I'm just a professional' ")

Watch Man on Fire...

THEN, watch INSIDE MAN.

I dont think anyone mentioned, "What Dreams May Come". It has a sick philosophy on heaven and hell. It's in a very deep way and makes you wonder how death really is.
:thumb: Great movie, depressing but like you said makes you wonder.. I was gonna say this one.

Also Full Metal Jacket

Full Metal Jacket begins by following the trials and tribulations of a platoon of fresh Marine Corps recruits focusing on the relationship between Gunnery Sergeant Hartman and Privates Pyle and Joker. We see Pyle grow into an instrument of death as Hartman has forseen of all of his recruits. Through Pyle's torment and Joker's unwillingness to stand up against it the climax of part one is achieved with all three main characters deciding their fates by their action or inaction. The second chapter of Full Metal Jacket delves into Joker's psyche and the repeated referal to the fact that he joined the Corps to become a killer. When his mostly behind the scenes job as a combat correspondant is interfered with by the Tet offensive he is thrust into real combat and ultimately must choose if he really is a killer.

The movie is so much deeper than this, the only way you'll know is by watching it. Highly recommended.

Requiem for a Dream was mentioned and it's worth the mention again. This was the last movie I saw that left me moved. I could not get it out of my head for a day!

Dogfight (1991)
Starring: River Phoenix & Lili Taylor
Directed by: Nancy Savoca

"Dogfight" is about a Marine who will ship off to Vietnam in a matter of hours along with his friends. They as well as other Marines are taking part in a game called "Dogfight" where all of them seek a woman to bring to a party, and whomever finds the ugliest one, wins. Eddie (Phoenix) goes looking for his date and finds Rose (Taylor), he manages to charm her and she accompanies to the party, she finds out about the true intentions of the date by accident, and lashes out on Eddie, verbally and physically.

Later that night Eddie tries to make it up to her by taking her out for a nice dinner, and throughout the night fall very into eachother. I thought this was a very good film, surprised almost by how it turned out. The chemistry between Phoenix and Taylor is great. The film is more of a character study than what it would appear to be, a understated film, that not many people probably appreciate. If your a River Phoenix fan, and saw this and overlooked it, watch it again, definitely one of his best films, and I highly recomend viewing.

Just watched 'Heist' (for the second time) with Hugh Jackman & Danny De Vito. It's a good thriller about the thief who always has a back up plan. Worth checking. This one is from 2001. I heard that the movie with a same name was released in 1998. ;)

well, this movie really isnt all that intellectual, but i think Casino is one of the best DeNiro movies ever.....just thought i'd contribute that....

and yeah, the requiem of a dream was really disturbing after you watched it.....finally saw how drugs could ruin a person...before that, we'd just hear about it....
