dropping milk

Preach, I'm gonna give you a 'Thanks' just because you took the time to rape your keyboard with that post. Just that on its own deserves a rep. lol

I know it's all love Preach. We're basically both offending each other so it cancels itself out I guess.

I have an issue with you comparing the drinking of milk to the 9/11 conspiracy. You are really reaching with that one. There's a multitude of proven facts that milk is bad for you based on a shitload of research, and if you take away the use of language in that milk article that you have a problem with because you feel it's subtly manipulating, take all that out and the facts are still there. I mean this ONE statement I'm about to make discounts the dairy industry's main advertising basis, and that is:

USA = Highest amount of cows milk drinkers = Highest amount of Osteoporosis

Japan = Lowest amount of cows milk drinkers = Lowest amount of Osteoporosis.

Surely you must be able to see that that is REALLY fucked up. The fact that they promote milk as being a great source of calcium and to PREVENT you from getting osteoporosis you should drink it, when it's the exact opposite! To me, this is exactly the same thing as saying "Smoking is good for you! Smoke these cigarettes and you WONT get lung cancer!".

It's irresponsible and downright shameful that they promote themselves like that. People think of Coca-Cola as an evil corporation, but everybody knows that, OK drink coke if you like it, but don't drink too much cos it's got a shitload os sugar in it and it'll damage your teeth.

People know that. People understand that. That's the difference. Same with meat. People mistakenly believe that milk and meat are good for you. That's horseshit! I may come across preachy (lol) and a bit of an asshole because of my stance on the matter, but really, all I'm trying to do is raise awareness. If nobody had raised the awareness to me, I wouldn't know.

Which leads me into my next point that I disagree on. Where you said that if I think I'm planting seeds, you can assure me I'm not. Well sir, I can assure you that I am! You know how I know? Because members of this board which has been where I'm offered my opinion on this matter the most, have come to me in private, thanked me, and altered their diets because of things I (and others like Jokerman and Chronic) have said. You can call bullshit on that if you want, but I simply don't care because I know it's true. I know who those people are and those people know who they are and that's all I say regarding them. They aren't getting caught up in these debate threads and they probably haven't said a word about changing their diets or becoming vegetarian. But they've said them to me, and sincerely at that, and asked for suggestions and advice.

So that debunks your seeds analysis. Basically I'm a fan of the shotgun approach - shoot out shitloads of shells and maybe some of them will hit. It's more or less how I became a vegetarian in the first place. It was due to my cousin spreading the awareness and knowledge and teaching me. I can't describe it as anything other than an awakening. And of course I've mentioned on numerous occasions the health benefits I've personally discovered since I became a vegetarian. Jokerman and Rukas have touched on these subjects too.

What I gathered from the bulk of your post is that you think I shouldn't belittle people. And while I don't mean to be as overly caustic as I sometimes am, I think what I do and my approach is OK. It's not wrong to point out that someone is fat, for example. You're giving them more motivation to get healthy. Sure, they might already know that they are fat. But the problem is, the human brain and the way our self-esteem works is to pretend like these things aren't a problem. That person might know that they are fat but their mind finds way of reassuring itself and ignoring it. You don't get any motivation from it, and furthermore you don't get any motivation from politeness either. Let me give an example. I smoked for damn near a decade (11-21). I'm 22 and a few months old right now. I knew smoking was bad for me, it wasn't motivation to stop. My doctor at some point asked me if I smoked, I said yes and he calmly and nicely explained that if you keep smoking x y and z are going to happen etc etc etc. I knew already and this didn't offer me any motivation either. However, when I travelled to some part of the world and different part of society with my band, one place I went to (I think it was Vancouver), I had a cigarette and the promoter informed me that in their subculture of sociey smokers were basically treated like lepers! This, was obviously a harder approach and it definately helped to motivate me to quit, and it wasn't long after that that I did.

So while it seems like saying "stop eating all that candy you fat fuck" is pretty harsh, it's really the right thing to do in a way. That's the same as what I do. I say "eating meat and drinking milk is fucking nasty and will kill you".....and science proves that that's right with a shitload of evidence.

Of course, your point of "well, I love eating meat and therefore shall continue to do so" is perfectly valid. YOU may have looked at the facts and decided to ignore them because you enjoy doing what you do. Just like a rapist knows that rape is wrong but he enjoys it so continues to do it. (Yes, I know I'm reaching by comparing eating meat to rape, now you know how it feels). That doesn't make it the right thing to do. And before you debunk that comparison with "well, unlike rape, eating meat isn't harming anyone"......it's harming the animals that you murder, which have every right to life the same way a woman has the right to not be sexually assaulted.

What you're missing is that not everybody loves eating meat particularly. They don't particularly enjoy drinking milk either. Not to say they dislike those things either. They just do it because thats how their parents raised them. In their fridge growing up there was meat and there was milk. They continue the same dietary patterns as their parents, despite the fact that their parents probably won't have a particularly long life because of their dietary habits. That won't yet be apparent to those people. My 70-something old Uncle is demented and senile. He goes to the bathroom 50 million times a day for no good reason, he goes through a 4-pack of kitchen towel in a week because he rips a piece off, wipes his mouth, then 5 minutes later does the same damn thing again. He repeats the same things over and over and over again and get anxious for no apparent reason. He smoked, drank and ate meat for most of his life. Undeniably, all three of these things have had a major effect on him. Many Indian people are lactose intolerant because of the amount of dairy (generally ghee) used in Indian cooking and a large amount of milk consumed (the cow is very holy in India, because it is seen as a giver because of milk)........and plenty of people in India (and across the world) get ill and even die because of milk consumption and don't understand why. (another example that both religion and milk are both big piles of shite IMO). You have to spread the awareness. It's a matter of education, and taking the hardline is sometimes the ONLY way. That's always been my approach and it has worked more often than not.

So you saying that "everybody is capable of coming to the same decisions as you" is horseshit, because people (as we've already concluded) are to a large degree, brainwashed and ill-informed to say the least. And they don't question anything for themselves. So you HAVE to feed them that knowledge because they won't find it themselves.

I don't mean to come across as Supreme Overlord Guru of Knowledge, but Preach, just because you have lived for the same amount of time as me doesn't mean jack-all. Bobby Sands came with the same approach in before, asking me if I thought he had never travelled outside Ireland because of the way I was talking to him about religion. Of course I don't think that. But the fact is that wisdom and knowledge comes from life experience, travelling and understanding of different societys and cultures. And without trying to sound like an ass, I'd put money on it that I've soaked up more wisdom and life experience than 99.9% of the people on this forum, and I don't see a problem with sharing that information, and like I said before, sometimes you HAVE to take the hardline with it because people as a whole stick with what they think they know. They're stubborn and ignorant. I'm certainly not trying to tar everyone here with that brush, and before anyone accuses me of also being stubborn, I accept your argument of doing whatever the fuck you like, eat what you like, drink what you like, fuck whoever you like, whatever. I used to be the same way but that attitude never gets anyone anywhere in life. I'm just pointing out how your argument is invalid to me just as you have pointed out how my argument is invalid to you. The difference is, you are making your argument for the sake of yourself. I am making my argument for the sake of humanity and a better way of life for modern society as a whole. I am spreading the valid information whilst you are simply debunking it because it doesn't suit you as an individual. So you can see why, in that sense, my position here is superior, because I'm not doing it to be selfish. Saying "everybody just do whatever" is selfish.

And of course it's fine if you want to do whatever you want. It you genuinely have assessed all the information, facts and evidence to hand and decided it's not for you, you are of course entitled to do that. But most people are unaware of the information and they have not assessed the facts. The point where your stance of individual self-indulgence and hedonism creates a problem is when you use it to halt the spread of knowledge as a self-gratifying justification of your own lifestyle.

But this particular growth hormone is only used in the US and maybe some other countries? i know it isnt used on cows here. so is this where the harm from drinking milk supposedly is? The guy who wrote the article from Mens Health say this:

Cows are given hormones. Doesn't that make their milk unhealthy?
Not unless you're injecting the milk. Here's the full story: In 1993 the FDA approved the use of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) in cattle. This practice resulted in greater milk production at less cost to the dairy farmer, a savings that has been passed on to you at your local supermarket. But it has also sparked much controversy, because rBGH boosts milk's concentration of insulin-like growth factor (IGF), a hormone that's been linked to cancer.
Unlike steroid hormones, which can be taken orally, rBGH and IGF must be injected to have any effect. That's because the process of digestion destroys these "protein" hormones. So drinking milk from hormone-treated cows doesn't transfer the active form of these chemicals to your body. However, there is one ethical downside to consider: It's not good for the cows. Canadian researchers discovered that cows given hormones are more likely to contract an udder infection called mastitis.

Growth hormone is only a small factor in why milk is bad for you. Props to the countries that aren't using it, sure, but it's like taking nicotine out of a cigarette - there's still 100 more reasons why you shouldnt be consuming it.

He's getting his info from "official" sources who got their info from lying Monsanto who makes the shit. Monsanto's got the corrupt FDA in their bag. And now they're even making nonorganic soymilk toxic.

And, no, growth hormone is not the only harm in drinking milk. You're drinking rocket fuel and Grade A plutonium. Bleach and ammonia combined (pneumonia), asbestos and aluminum. PCBs and Agent Orange. AIDS and Gulf War Syndrome.

^^lol. wouldn't surprise me if you Americans were mixing Asbestos with your milk as well. That shit isn't even completely banned in the US. Now thats a fucking scandal.

I was thinking that's where the guy who wrote that Mens Health article got his information

Ive never really liked milk, it's always made me sick.

Soy, rice or almond milk is the way to go.

I do eat a lot of dairy though, Im a cheese addict. Cant help it.

^^me too. im a cheese addict as well lol

ive cut back alot though. its so fattening.

you needn't worry about that. as long as you're eating a low-fat cheese that is.

basically, there is something in cheese that, when digested, binds itself to the fat in other foods that you eat. the end result of that is that by eating cheese you end up excreting more fat overall than you would otherwise.

i saw a program on the BBC explaining this. they did a test with alex james (of blur) who runs his own farm and manufactures cheese. he spent x amount of time on diet 1 and x amount of time on diet 2. diet 1 was high in low fat cheese and diet 2 was not. they sent his shit from both diets to a medical lab, and the results showed that he shitted out twice as much fat overall on diet 1.

I'm probably the biggest cheese addict :p Basically nearly every meal I eat has cheese in it. I love cheese and I probably eat more of it than all of you ha!
