I'd just like to say that Darren Bent is not worth 18M GBP. He's maybe worth the 1/3 of that...

he is a proven goalscorer in recent times, but i wouldnt pay more than £15m for him, even £12 would be pushing it. but £18m is the initial fee villa paid for him.. it'll rise to £26m depending upon appearances.

So far villa have bought:

Makoun for £6m + £2.5m depending on appearances
Bent for £18m + £8m depending on appearances

initial fees paid: £24m
add-ons: £10.5m

those add-ons will hit us hard if they dont perform well. that could be two decent players worth or one quality player. but im staying positive now, hoping for the best. i think downing might be moved into the centre, unless houllier opts for three up front. and competition is hotting up for the central midfield with petrov, clark, bannan, makoun, ireland, reo-coker and possibly downing. if downing isnt moved into the centre then that means either one of him, agbonlahor or albrighton would start on the bench... and i think that'd be a mistake.

but he never really cut it at Spurs did he? nor is he even a regualr english international. and we are talking about a mediocre england squad. and he is almost 27 now

^Totally agree. It's pointless anyway, teams spend that much money in the Premiership, finish in places for the Europa liga then they play their kids in that competition.

They play their kids in the Carling Cup and FA Cup, so really their ambition is simply to stay in the league.

crazy.. i know.

i thought i mentioned bent not breaking into the england squad. we paid so much for someone whos barely an international. i did make that point with my friends however.. all true.

carew looks like he's heading to stoke on loan. villa's main priority of course is to stay up, but i would say a top half finish can be realistic if we pull some good results together and stop leaking goals.

babel looks like he might leave then. getting suarez would be a good move.

Probably not but you can't compare transfers purely on the value of them. You need to look at the players contract situation, his transfer status at his current club, the players age and whether or not he has played in that country before/language barrier etc.

i mean the 3rd goal even had 31 passes in the build up. and Meireles was brilliant and scored a great goal.

i hope Meireles isnt moved form that position when Gerrard returns. If that means playing Gerrard on the right or left then so be it. although its likely he will just come in and replace Poulsen, who had a good game today until he ran out of steam in the second half.

I particularly liked Torres's reaction when he scored the first goal, picked the ball up and planted it in front of Stearman who he was having a battle with. The second goal was class.

Anyway.

5-0 over Birmingham, Berba scored a hattrick, Rooney didn't score again. :/
