11/12 Premier League thread

Crucial game for Villa and QPR today (a 3-0 win would give us better goal difference than them). We did well to get 3 points against Reading last week - hopefully we can follow that up with a win today (but we haven't won back-to-back games in the Premier League for 67 games now).

I think the focus is on the relegation battle this year as the title has probably already been decided. I can see United getting past 89 points within 7 games; and it looks as though Man City, Tottenham and Chelsea have secured the remaining Champion's League places.

So, the relegation battle is hotting up with 5 teams in it at this stage. Also, there is only 6 points in it from 17th place all the way up to 10th; and only 3 points from 15th up to 10th. Wigan v Villa on the final day of the season!!

Massively different league. The major difference being how TV rights are negotiated. If the Prem had the same TV rights deal as La Liga, then Man United would have far more money to spend and the teams below, far less. They would probably be miles away and bar 2 or 3 clubs, the league would be boring. Like La Liga. Who gives a shit about La Liga's relegation battle? No-one, not even in Spain. But in the Prem it's very exciting and followed all over Europe and further.

I watched the game with my Dad. It was a shit game, but the result was good. It's a shame that Wigan got away with 3 points. Hoping Stoke win, tomorrow.

I tried to put £25 on Newcastle to go down a few weeks ago. They have a difficult run.

Man u has just as much if not more money to spend that real. I mean real just passed them this year in terms of worth. Bpl is far more exciting though.

Real get a far larger chunk of TV rights. But the big difference isn't with Man United or Real. The issue is with the rest of the teams. In the Prem all the TV money is split equally and depending on where you finish depends how much money you get. In La Liga, Real and Barca negotiate their own TV rights. So they get a huge amount of money and it doesn't matter where they finish. The rest of the league, in comparison, gets fuck all.

Mourinho to stay at Real, or go to United or Chelsea? If he leaves I'd rather him go to United than Chelsea.

I put some money on Paul Lambert and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The odds were good.


But... I concede it is probably Moyes. A sad day for Man United. But a lot of bitter twats from other clubs talking shit.

Stiliyan Petrov also announced his retirement today.

He worked so hard for us. I hope that an Aston Villa v Celtic match takes place to raise money for a Leukaemia charity. I would like to go to it.

So, Benteke did a complete u-turn and signed a new 4 year deal (effectively a 1 year extension from his current deal with improved terms) after revoking his transfer request!!

He needs to win me over again with performances and signs of commitment this season. I think we all know and agree that contracts don't mean as much as they used to as players don't really honour them and sometimes demand a move. I am happy with Villa's signings so far and we have extended contracts from Brad Guzan, Andreas Weimann, Matthew Lowton, Ashley Westwood, Ciaran Clark, and Samir Curruthers (who I think could make his breakthrough this season or next).
