The greatest producer

I don't know if there still are people who would like to discuss it here but I was thinking about this today - who is the greatest producer of all time?

The first one that came to my mind was Dre (Dr.Dre). It might be a blasphemy but I don't think he's all that great after all. He produced some dope tracks and then some mainstream hits but are his beats really THAT great? Many of his beats were big fails. Also he fell off and failed to come up with at least a few good ones over the last few years. I really like Dre but I don't think that he deserves a top spot that many, many people place him at.

There are many producers that were 'good' only for a short period of time and I have no idea why some people think that they are all that great. Examples - Scott Storch or Just Blaze. They made a few decent beats (mostly mainstream) and it was enough for some people to place them amongs the greatest. Why?

The next one that comes to my mind is The RZA. In my opinion he's really, really dope. He had a lot of beats that were awesome and were not boring. I could listen to his productions for years without getting bored of them. He's constant. From the beginning he made awesome beats and he stll creates them. Also, I think that his best beats are better than Dre's best beats.

Also, there are many, many less popular producers that are really good, often underrated but I don't t hink that they can be considered the greatest. Definately they are top20 though. Those'd be 9th wonder, Dre (of cool&dre), Agallah, el-p, Mathematics or QD3 for example.
Maybe DJ Premier stands out but can he be considered an all time greatest? I don't think so.

What's your opinion?

I don't think that DJ Premier is the greatest. He is great in his own way though.
In my opinion the RZA is the greatest too. He made a lot of perfect beats.

It depends what you want to classify a producer as. Do you mean just how good the beat sounds to you? If so, no one is consistent enough for me to say. Making a dope beat is too easy nowadays though but we all have our preferences. El-P is acclaimed as this great producer but none of his beats sound good to me. Salty is like "hear that little noise in the background, OMG SO DOPE" but i'm like "dude the beat doesn't do anything for me, I don't care how complex it is."

I think Three Six Mafia have had the best production (as far as how tight a beat is) over the last decade. I think DJ Paul and Juicy J are the most responsible for that but I'm not sure.
