ohh yes you got me there. you're very clever arent you.

you're a gay c*nt.

the point is still valid.

it's not the word itself, but it's how you use the word. replacing "er" with an "a" doesn't mean shit i'm afraid.

^No my argument wasn't how you spell the word.

To say because someone else said it and so therefor i can say it too is ignorant.

PS. You know what is clever? "Gay cunt"

wtf? are you serious?

it's not a "he said it so i can say it" thing.

put it into context before you look @ it so narrowly like that.

"Nigga is the dude with gold ropes hanging out in the clubs, Nigg-er is the dude hanging from gold ropes on a tree." - Tupac

^or something like that.

All he is asking is not to use it in a vulgar way. whats so hard about that?

I think that we should censor all of Carmen's posts. :p
hahahahahhahahahahahaha...

*a few minutes later*

hahahahahahahaha. but hey back to topic I don't get why we have to censor people. if SH wouldn't have tolerated racism in the 1st place they wouldn't need to censor now

Carmi and illmatic remind me of those snobby white kids in high school who, when the teacher would tell them to be quiet, they'd yell out "you can't tell me to shut up, I have freedom of speech" in a teeny bopper rebellious tone, thinking they're all smart, angry, and misunderstood.

Stop rebelling against a censored word on an internet forum, and find a real cause to fight for in your personal life.

No I would ask my math teacher why did we have to learn trigonometry and all that bs math if it's not useful in our daily lives. She was never able to answer that question so she'd get all pissed.

So this isn't a real cause? Somebody was offended so the word is now censored. That is a real enough cause for me. The way I see it, this is just attacking the word when in fact the important thing is the thought, so what I'm saying is - isn't engaging in a debate and sharing thoughts more constructives than just covering up problems so you can have a comfortable bubble to live in? This situation is awfully close to conservatives trying to censor rap when in fact the violence in rap is happening in real life.

so i take it Caesar is the "teacher" and i'm telling him what he can/can't do right? isn't that a bit of a stretched comparison my friend, seeing as i just made the observation, and never questioned what Caesar can or can't do.

It was an observation to trigger some form of discussion. yes, i am disputing it somewhat, but indirectly. and i'd rather engage in a discussion over a controversial topic rather than walking away from it and having your complacent "yeh, whatever" attitude, and then accuse me of mirroring pratty school kids.

edit; at the end of the day i dont really give a fuck because i dont use the word. i just thought it was slightly funny that we've banned the word which is in like every second line of a rap song.

You see it wrong. I, too, at one point tried to justify my use of the n word. I was honest with my justification when I would say that I was using the word only in a joking manner. However, I thought to myself, "is using a taboo in a joking manner more important to me than potentially offending someone?" I came up with the conclusion that it was in the best of my interests as a person trying to put the immature ways behind. Maybe I still use the word jokingly sometimes, but I know I try my best not to.

Now, as to why I said you see it wrong. It's not the word that's being attacked here, but that the offensive connotation behind the word is being hidden, which is a good thing.

Also, on an internet forum, and in person, it's almost impossible for one person to recognize what the THOUGHT behind the word is, especially if you're watching out for the bystanders (the casual readers of the site who don't post often) if when it's used as an inside joke.

so what I'm saying is - isn't engaging in a debate and sharing thoughts more constructives than just covering up problems so you can have a comfortable bubble to live in?
You think having a constructive discussion on the use of the word will lead to............what?

The word will lose its negative connotation?

What is the end result you seek? You think if the word is left uncensored, people will stop using it?

We've had tons of debates on the use of the word in the past. I don't think the debates shouldn't have happened as it was good that they did, but it's impossible to come to the conclusion that it's OK to use the word, unless it's written in an "academic" fashion.

This situation is awfully close to conservatives trying to censor rap when in fact the violence in rap is happening in real life.
According to Caesar, an African-American sent him a message saying he was offended by Da_Funk's use of it.

Is that not indirect racism?

The bottom line is, you don't gain anything and you don't lose anything, by having the word being censored. You're rebelling because you think you have an intellectual reason to, but there is no benefit to having the word uncensored.

Now you would probably say, "Well, what IF this and this was banned in real life, I wouldn't lose anything, but what about the consequences, the dangerous precedents...bla bla?" to which I would respond "find a real cause, join the ACLU or something".
