this was interesting

Rose posted 11 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in his first professional game. The No. 1 overall pick from June’s NBA Draft played 32 minutes, turning the ball over four times for a decent 2.25 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Greg Oden, 2007: We all know Rose had a better debut than Portland’s charismatic center, who missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury. His first game, Tuesday night against the Lakers, wasn’t a success in the box score or on his body either.

Andrea Bargnani, 2006: ‘The Italian Stallion’ struggled in Toronto’s season opener on Nov. 1, 2006, tallying just 3 points, 2 rebounds and 2 blocks in a loss to New Jersey.

Andrew Bogut, 2005: The Australian big man’s production rivaled Rose’s, with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks in Milwaukee’s win over Philadelphia. Bogut was more efficient though, going 6-for-9 from the field.

Dwight Howard, 2004: Howard had a terrific debut for the Magic on Nov. 3, 2004, posting 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals in a victory over the Bucks. He played 38 minutes for Orlando, six more than Rose did on Tuesday night.

LeBron James, 2003: LBJ’s debut, perhaps the most anticipated in recent years, was spectacular against Sacramento in October 2003. He had 25 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals, but the Cavaliers lost and would go on to lose their first five games of the LeBron Era.

Yao Ming, 2002: The Houston center didn’t have a noteworthy first game, playing just eleven minutes against the Pacers. He failed to score, grabbed a pair of rebounds and was whistled for three fouls in defeat.

Kwame Brown, 2001: Kwame struggled as well, but had a better debut than Yao. Brown, then with Washington, had 2 points, 3 rebounds and 3 blocks in a loss to New York.

Kenyon Martin, 2000: Martin, who was drafted by the Nets, fouled out in his professional debut, but still posted 10 points and 7 rebounds in a loss to the Cavaliers.

Elton Brand, 1999: Then with the Bulls, Brand struggled from the field, but still had 10 points and 8 rebounds in a loss to the Knicks.

Michael Olowokandi, 1998: It’s hard to imagine now, but ‘The Kandi Man’ had a very good debut for the Clippers ten years ago. He had 14 points and 6 rebounds in a very efficient performance, but L.A. lost to Phoenix.

Tim Duncan, 1997: Duncan, immediately teaming with David Robinson to form the best interior tandem in the game, was spectacular in San Antonio’s season-opening win over Denver. He had 15 points and 10 rebounds, the first of many double-doubles.

Allen Iverson, 1996: A.I. was a hit from the start, scoring 30 points on nineteen shots in his pro debut with the 76ers. Philadelphia lost to Milwaukee, but Iverson’s scoring abilities were on display from Day One.

Joe Smith, 1995: Taken by the Warriors, Smith, still a solid pro thirteen years later, was good in his first game. He had 14 points and 3 rebounds in a loss to the Rockets.

Glenn Robinson, 1994: The ‘Big Dog’ helped lead the Bucks to a win over the Lakers on Opening Night in ’94, posting 8 points and 4 rebounds. He only played thirteen minutes.

Chris Webber, 1993: Webber, fresh off his Final Four miscue, filled the stat sheet for Golden State in his first game. He had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks in a loss to Houston.

Shaquille O’Neal, 1992: Shaq turned the ball over eight times, but helped lead the Magic over the Heat with 12 points, 18 rebounds and 3 blocks. He would post double-digit rebounds in each of his games that November.

Larry Johnson, 1991: ‘Grandmama’ lost to the Celtics in his Hornets’ debut, but he did have 14 points and 3 rebounds.

Derrick Coleman, 1990: The Nets lost to the Pacers in Coleman’s first NBA game, but he posted 11 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.

^LOL. Oden is to miss 2-4 weeks according to NBA.com. That sucks for Blazers fans.

Manu is good, but not THAT good. He'll provide a good spark off the bench for the Spurs. Still, no excuse for losing to the Suns at home.
manu is the 2nd best SG in the league behind u know who... i wish he came into the league a while ago so people can see that

nice find ray, it was a good read

Perhaps Iverson was hurting more after Karl announced team captains earlier in the day, and Iverson, a tri-captain last season, wasn't one.

Karl said it was a team vote, but he elected to go with top vote-getters Anthony and Martin only and not choose tri-captains because "two is enough."

"Does it matter? Yeah, it matters," said Iverson, joined as a captain last season by Anthony and the departed Marcus Camby. "It's not something that will bother me at all or something that I'm going to dwell on, but it was surprising. . . . I want to run with this and make it a positive thing instead of trying to make anything negative about the whole situation.

"I'm too far in. I'm a veteran. I can't let stuff like that (drag) me down, or the team. But, yeah, I was surprised."

Karl said Iverson "got a lot of votes" and it's not a big deal that he's not a captain. Karl said Martin, who was a captain in 2005-06 - when he was suspended during the playoffs - but not one the past two seasons, has undergone a "first-class change."
Not sure exactly what Stephon Marbury Stephon Marbury did this preseason to deserve what he got tonight - which was getting humiliated in his hometown by a supposed player's coach Mike D'Antoni.

Marbury got in the best shape of his career, he had a sharp preseason, he accepted his backup role to a career backup in Chris Duhon. But it wasn't good enough for D'Antoni. Maybe D'Antoni bought his son a pair of Starburys that didn't fit right.

Marbury is still on the team but D'Antoni put him in exile tonight and for the foreseeable future. At least Eddy Curry saw this coming. After Marbury's 23-minutes-a-game preseason, this was a shocker.

D'Antoni even made Marbury into a sympathetic figure as the fans chanted "We Want Steph'' in the third quarter and early fourth during their 120-115 victory over Miami, which probably will stink again. Some fans booed the chant.

When the Knicks New York Knicks picked up the 2008-2009 option on point guard Mardy Collins Mardy Collins last week, it merited barely a sentence. Who knew that move would truly mean the end of Marbury's playing days as a Knick.

With his option picked up, Collins is in the core group. He got 10 minutes tonight and is part of D'Antoni's circle. Marbury has the misfortunate of having just one year left on his contract and thus is not important enough to nurture.

...

The Knicks should do the right thing and release Marbury, even though his chances of signing with another club have been compromised. It seems cruel they brought him to camp now, if D'Antoni knew all along he would not be in the rotation. D'Antoni never let on once that he wouldn't play Marbury this season, giving him plenty of preseason minutes.

In truth, Collins solid preseason made the coaching staff rethink matters the past few days. D'Antoni didn't want Marbury on the team in the first place and Collins became a revelation. Marbury, glassy-eyed in the locker room tonight, wouldn't say what he was really feeling. He said he'd continue to work hard and D'Antoni has every right to make this decision. "I'm glad we won,'' he said.

Marbury didn't know it was coming. D'Antoni didn't tell him before the game, just like he didn't tell Curry he was out of the rotation but told the media. For a real class act, that's surprising behavior by D'Antoni.

Marbury had a good feeling his minutes would be less than the 22 he averaged in preseason. But he never imagined tonight's embarrassing DNP at the Garden in the season opener, playing behind Collins, playing behind a rookie who hadn't played since July, playing behind Rose. I bet Marbury couldn't have imagined that in his worst nightmare.

D'Antoni said they are playing for the future. Hopefully, they'll still be playing for something in February.
it be kind of fucked up, marbury>>>collins

Woooooooooo... watch out guys. Check this shit out.
Lakers gonna win the next 4 championships if they can re-sign Kobe too.. hahaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

The Lakers and Andrew Bynum have agreed in principle on a four-year contract extension worth about $58 million, keeping their center of the future in the fold through the 2012-13 season, according to sources familiar with the negotiations who would not speak publicly.

Bynum, who will make $2.8 million this season, will earn close to $42 million over the first three years of his contract extension. The fourth year will be a team option for about $16 million.

Houston beating on Dallas is like the Lakers beating on the Clippers, Dallas is weak and has been on a downward spiral for the past two seasons.

Rockets will be good but they won't come out of the west.
