Weezy can sell records

#21
lol, my thoughts exactly. Immortal Techniques lyrics immediately popped into my head
"so if your message ain't shit, fuck the records you sold
cuz if you go platinum, it's got nothing to do with luck
it just means that a million people are stupid as fuck"

I honestly just dont get him.
I realized that as soon as I posted it, it's true and he's right.
I'll never fully understand why great acts such as The Roots don't sell and are fully appreciated, but a no talent ass clown such as Lil' Wayne get cemented with the ludicrous status of "Legendary" and sells a million copies in a week.

Nah, I said B.M. JR is dope. I used to like that song. I haven't listened to it in a while. I don't know what it was about that song. And don't even get me started on Snoop, lol.
He was referring to The Chronic and Doggystyle Snoop.

Thank you. Just apply the reverse thing to him: just because you have a mesasage doesn't mean your shit doesn't suck.

I don't know why, but his shit never gets radio play over here.. I probably wouldn't of heard of him untill this year when lollipop came out.. if it wasn't for streethop that is
You're lucky, I hear his damn song that samples Paid In Full everyday. What pisses me off is people always rap his stolen line from Rakim -"Thinkin' of a master plan..." part.

Maybe where you are. My little cousins and their friends bump Ra regularly. That's irrelevant anyway. Unless you are implying only people 16 and under listen to Lil' Wayne. It might be his major fan base and pretty much every single other "mainstram" rappers fanbase but older people still listen to him. So really it doesnt matter if no one under 16 doesnt know who Rakim is.

^^No I'm saying the majority of young mainstream listeners listen to who's hot, and at the moment that is Lil' Wayne. So they wouldn't have a clue as to who Rakim is, if he showed up in Lil' Wayne's new video wearing a t-shirt that said "I'm Rakim."

What I'm really saying is thhe young mainstream listeners wouldn't know he stole that line, because they don't know who Rakim is.

Using the line "Thinkin' of a master plan..." is an obvious homage to Rakim, especially since the beat samples Paid In Full. Its not like its even that dope of a line that he would consider stealing it and making it his own.

And come on, every hip-hop head knows who rapped that. If Wayne really stole it there would be hell to pay in Hip-Hop circles, but it is obvious that it's just paying homage or tribute. It happens in hip-hop all the time nowadays.

But, what we're really saying is that what you're saying is horseshit and doesn't hold weight.

How old are you anyway to be in a position to say that? Do you hangout with the 16 and under crowd? Do you frequent hip-hop message boards disguised as a 16 year old and interact with the age group? Did you conduct a nationwide survey with the help of CNN and the Associated Press that we don't know about?

There's a slim percentage who would legitimately know who Rakim is, Rakim isn't popular, Rakim isn't hot right now, Rakim is (unfortunately) to old for this generation, in their eyes. Look at our threads for a sec. Who are we talking about in them, mostly? Who's hot right now, Who's got a new mixtape, ect. Yeah, there's a Marky Mark thread, but no one took that seriously, and why should they? If Rakim showed up on a Lil' Wayne song, or he had Chris Brown do the hook, he would appeal to the young crowd. Rakim hasn't released new material in 7+ years, and I see this continuing. I've been to a Rakim show and I didn't see any 18 year olds there. Maybe one day they'll have a classic Hip-Hop station on the radio, and then he'll be popular. ;)

I think what you're trying to say is that 16 year olds don't LISTEN to Rakim nowadays instead of not KNOWING about him.

how does someone like wayne sell a mill in a week and a true MC like nas not even sell?
Lol.

If Rakim showed up on a Lil' Wayne song, or he had Chris Brown do the hook, he would appeal to the young crowd.
How about if he showed up in a Juelz Santana video? Or rapped on a top 10 R&B single produced by DJ Quik? Or the soundtrack to a popular movie starring one of the biggest rappers of all time? Or an Alicia Keys song? Or a Jay-Z song on a triple-platinum album? You think that would help make kids like Rakim and want to buy new music by him?

Oh yes, all 6+ years ago, on an Alicia Keys song that's not even on any of her albums, a soundtrack mainly highlighted by Eminem, a song where the artist herself got dropped by the label, a terrible Jay-Z album. I only remember 3 of those being actual singles. It's kind of a "what have you done for me lately?" kind of thing. Look I love Rakim, but nobody young listens to him, and most youngsters have no clue to just how great he is, how he's their rappers favorite rapper.

For instance, I have a friend who thinks Lil' Wayne is the greatest rapper alive. I try and get him to listen to Common who is 10X the rapper Lil' Wayne is, he won't, why? He's seen Common in movies, but won't give him the time of day, because "the beats aren't hot enough, he's boring, ect."

I find it hard to believe people who consistently listen to shitty Hip-Hop are going to branch out, even open their minds and listen to the great stuff. Someone who believes Lil' Wayne is the greatest rapper alive, and who thinks Akon raps, is never gonna even give Rakim a glimpse, and It's sad.

Why Wayne sells records and talented rappers don't is completely obvious to me and it should be completely obvious to everyone else.

When it comes to dumbed down, not so talented, entertainment rappers, Wayne is probaby the best of the best. Plus he puts in a lot of his work. I don't see how anyone who likes that kind of shit can't like him.

To most people, its about what's hot today. Theres plenty of genuine hip hop fans out there, but they are outnumbered by commercial hip hop fans. At the end of the day, its about what YOU like. Shit, i'm sure there are people who like Rakim AND Wayne. When it comes to selling records, it aint about who's a talented emcee any more. It's kind of sad, but it's true. Theres a lot of dope lesser known rappers out there who make dudes like Wayne, Rick Ross and Young Jeezy sound like they are terrible. But it's 2 different types of music in my opinion. Then you have people in the middle.

well the smart people r right as always...

nobodys sayin hes the best rapper alive, cept weezy...thats jus part of his swag. but he is def the hottest and most *cough*entertaining*cough* rapper out right now. like krondyke said dont nobody have as much fun on the mic as he does, wit hthe exception of me. his swag blows everybody else out the water...is flow isnt anything amazing but the way he uses it and can play w/ it so much coupled w/ the swag makes it sicc. his lyrics/punches are pretty average....but most of his shit [depending how high he is/how much u can decipher] is fuckin hilarious. I said it 2day...he cld stop rappin n be a comedian..most of his shit just funny...another reason why people like him.

yeah conscious rappers r cool...i love em...they shld have better status in the game. but the people that really matter 2 hiphop r the 1s who know/respect those cats. but not everybody wants 2 be depressed all the time, listenin 2 the same type of beats 4 the most part - same typa flow on most of the tracks. Only person I would say that shld really be big based on conscious/commercial likings would be some1 like Pharoah Monch...that dudes sicc as hell, flow/devliery/lyrics/voice all that...immortal technique? some good lyrics back in the day but has always been puttin u 2 sleep w/ his flow/delivery
