Yeah it kind of sucks to see that my friends like this guy lol.

Most of rappers today who claim non stop that they are real, tend not to be...

Most of their jewlery is fake, cars are bought illegaly and they claim it's worth 122423504952229649045$ and such.

Fuck this music.

*listens to Led Zep*
Robert Plant didn't actually come from "the land of the ice and snow... from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow"

:D

If you've never experienced something like 'being locked up' for a long time. What you have to say doesn't really mean as much as someone who's actually went through it.

That's what I mean.
But the quality of the song itself doesn't become better or worse. It's just that we as a people value authenticity in everything, and therefore want to see that authenticity come from rappers too.

Akon presented his songs like facts over and over again, so if you were an incarcerated person, and you find out a man (or your idol) preaching about a certain pain being locked up and you find out that the man was bullshitting all along, I'd really doubt you'd care as much about him as you did before.
It's not about caring or respect. It's about quality of music. We as consumers and listeners often require the musicians to have respectable, non-hypocritical personalities, and to produce good music. If you can separate what a man does or who he is, and focus on the music, that's a lot better. That's what separates groupies from fans, and haters from critics.

However, I very much dislike what Akon and don't respect him for it, but like Sebastian said, I enjoy some of his music and I won't necessarily skip the next hot song that he's on because he's a liar.

I'm not saying all songs need to be truthful, but you can't throw yourself out there and say.. YES, I'VE DONE THIS AND THAT.... then lie all about it.
Politicians do it all the time and we elect them. :D

For you and me, this is just music, for the next man it could be what keeps him going. Pac's music for example, did a lot of that for people (even though at times he'd get out of hand)

I'm not denying what you're saying my Balkan shithead :D I just despise the idea of 'fakes'.
haha I've come to learn that it's easier to not demand truthful rhymes, and more enjoyable.

Unreal lyrics destroy the song imo. If someone can't write good real lyrics he is talentless - a good rapper = "real" lyrics.
Unreal lyrics destroy a song? What about Pink Floyd, the Beatles, etc? Acid rock in general? lol

When I hear somebody flowing awesomely but saying stuff like "I killed your mother, then killed your brother, then killed another" etc. etc. I just press forward, even if beat is fire. I feel stupid just listening to it.
That's because you've learned to appreciate hip-hop mostly for it's lyrical content and you probably started liking hip-hop when you started listening to 2pac. If the reason you like hip-hop is 2pac, then it's going to be hard for you to enjoy most rap lol. However, beats and flow are just as important.

I don't need morals from hip-hop. I just don't want rappers to make idiots out of themselves while talking about unbelievably unrealistic bullshit. It makes some songs unlistenable, dude sounds like a retard.
Well, okay, that's fine. People listen to rap for different reasons and you have specific ones. That's fine. As a European and a Slav, I can understand your viewpoints completely and I could go into Preach-mode and analyze them, but really there's no need haha.

Well like Davy said... it's not the fact that they are not singing/rapping truthful rhymes, its the fact that they go on, sing a song about how life in jail is hard and such, and then go in an interview and say that they lived this and that when it's all a lie.

As for your Fight Club argument... I say that I like Notorious B.I.G. storytelling songs and texts better than Akon's "real" life experience songs.

Like this Serbian rapper said once "Nije da mi smeta sto u svemu preteruju, nego mi smeta da u svoju glupost veruju"

I've been listening to a lot of heavy metal the past year and I've got a couple of albums of people that would like to see me dead. They hate short, fat, balding men. Do you think that affects me enjoying something that I downloaded for free?

If your favorite artist happens to have raped your mother and inadvertantly spawned you I can imagine that you would no longer relate quite as much to his music and it would ruin the experience. But what S O F I is saying is that if you were expecting anything other than possibly quality music that you probably won't relate to with an artist like Akon you need to not reproduce. Unless you're black, living in the ghetto and beefing with somebody because they didn't slap your hand hard enough you probably won't relate that much. And even then...

That's because you've learned to appreciate hip-hop mostly for it's lyrical content and you probably started liking hip-hop when you started listening to 2pac. I'd have to agree with this. A lot of people only like a select few artists because of things beyond the music and they're not really into the rap experience. Even if 90% of gangsta rappers are fake as fuck I still see the merit and I see the stupid/fucked up things that lead to it. Obviously gangsta rap is only a branch in the Hip-Hop experience but if you can't enjoy it you're missing out. Kool G Rap wasn't really involved with the mafia. El-P's mother is not really in danger of time-traveling MCs.
