Yeah it kind of sucks to see that my friends like this guy lol.

Most of rappers today who claim non stop that they are real, tend not to be...

Most of their jewlery is fake, cars are bought illegaly and they claim it's worth 122423504952229649045$ and such.

Fuck this music.

*listens to Led Zep*

that's why I don't listen to gangsta rap these days.
I mean it's cool to listen to some laid back shit but anybody who believes in lyrics like "I shot that nagga and raped his bitch, then bribed crooked cops and shoot heroine in my gold f-16" is a retard. That's why I also don't get why rappers say things like that.

I think if you haven't come to grips with the notion that what a rapper says in a song doesn't have to be true for it to be a good, listenable song, you have not left your teenage years or you're living in some sort of realist rap bubble.

What I dislike about this is that Akon has lied in interviews. I care not if Locked Up is fiction or not, the song is tight.

What I meant is why won't they tell the truth?
If a song is nice, wouldn't it be cooler if lyrics actually meant something real?
There are few rappers with dope, real lyrics.

Meaningless words = meaningless song to me.

The song isn't tight, the beat is... that is all.
What does meaning have to do with truth? Is a fictitious film like Fight Club meaningless because it's not true? You can find meaning in words that weren't actually experienced.

The lyrics can mean something real without being true. Do you see the difference?

You guys expect something from rap that you don't expect from any other genre of music. If you expect rap to educate you, to teach you morals and values, your parents and your educational system failed you.

Quite often, a rapper can have talent but not have interesting things to say about his life. Should his talent waste away? Does a screenwriter or a scriptwriter let his writing ability go to waste because he/she didn't experience what they write?

The easiest thing to do is write about experience because that's all you have. How about imagination?

If you've never experienced something like 'being locked up' for a long time. What you have to say doesn't really mean as much as someone who's actually went through it.

That's what I mean.

Fight Club has nothing to do with a song. It's been presented as fiction, and should be taken as fiction, and is viewed as fiction (despite Fight Club's many philosophical undertones)

Akon presented his songs like facts over and over again, so if you were an incarcerated person, and you find out a man (or your idol) preaching about a certain pain being locked up and you find out that the man was bullshitting all along, I'd really doubt you'd care as much about him as you did before.

I'm not saying all songs need to be truthful, but you can't throw yourself out there and say.. YES, I'VE DONE THIS AND THAT.... then lie all about it.

For you and me, this is just music, for the next man it could be what keeps him going. Pac's music for example, did a lot of that for people (even though at times he'd get out of hand)

I'm not denying what you're saying my Balkan shithead :D I just despise the idea of 'fakes'.

Unreal lyrics destroy the song imo. If someone can't write good real lyrics he is talentless - a good rapper = "real" lyrics.

When I hear somebody flowing awesomely but saying stuff like "I killed your mother, then killed your brother, then killed another" etc. etc. I just press forward, even if beat is fire. I feel stupid just listening to it.

I don't need morals from hip-hop. I just don't want rappers to make idiots out of themselves while talking about unbelievably unrealistic bullshit. It makes some songs unlistenable, dude sounds like a retard.
