wow! Another classic thread :)

tho some albums are a bit "too old school" to me.
I'm not that much into that plain and simple hip-hop but some tracks are nice.

Nah my dude, nothing is ever "too old school".. trust me. I listen to Hip Hop from 82-Current basically. I enjoy the older shit just as much as the newer shit. Some people can't get into the old shit though. That or they just don't give it the chance.. they don't want to. Me personally, I grew up on that shit as well. So it's natural for me. I listen to alot of old shit. Whodini, Erib B & Rakim, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap & DJ Polo, LL, NWA, Krs One (Boogie Down Productions), EPMD, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and more. Those are just some of the more well known old school people. They are important to me because that's where it all started. It's nice to hear how the music has evolved. Whether it be production, lyrics or anything else. Big Daddy Kane is a ridiculous lyricst. Him in the 80's could match anyone now a days. That's crazy to me. Then again, he IS still around. He was just in his prime then, that's all.

Personally I cant get into the really old school stuff too much. I listen to it, learn from it, and highly respect it. But You probably wont catch me revisiting stuff that was released before 90 too often.

Maybe I'm just too young to fully vibe with that stuff. But every hip hop fan needs to give that stuff a listen cuz it really puts what hip hop is today into perspective. You gotta understand alotta dudes we love to death today grew up off that shit and u can see the influence.

But as far as this thread is concerned.. I dont think these albums are too old school at all. But very important albums in hip hop history, so everyone should give em a listen if they havent already...

Another great thread by Linx.. Straight schoolin' the masses

(I try threads like this and they're usually unsuccessful.. Damn You Linx! hahaha)

Alot of those albums are 80's and very early 90's. :thumb: As far as the thread being successful, I kind of think it won't be now. There's seems to be too many people not interested in old school Hip Hop. That's a shame to me, but oh well. The only thing I can do is my small part and give them the music. Can't make them listen.

One reason why threads like this might not be successful is cus people interested in these artists/era already know about em. Masta looks like he was introduced to some of this so it's successful in my eyes, but just a thought. That's the reason I haven't posted in any of these threads really, stuff is already known....and it sucks.

^ I'm not so sure about that my dude. I've never really seen many people here talk about old school shit. They may be semi-familiar with some of the names, but the music its self? Doesn't seem like it to me.

I don't consider this shit old school homie. This is "Golden Era" to me, and since that's my favorite era of hip-hop I already own everything you posted (maybe one or two exceptions).

Old school I consider to be Busy Bee, Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Davy DMX, the Fat Boys, Mantronix, Kurtis Blow, T La Rock....

it's crazy to me that kids these days look at shit I grew up listening to like Redman and EPMD as old school.

Most of that is 80's shit. There's a few albums I posted that were like 90-93 or so. That's almost 15 years old or more. I'm not saying it's as old as it gets, but it's old my dude. Espically compared to what most of the people on here listen to. I grew up on 80's and early 90's hip hop. Obviously a Grandmaster Flash album from 83 would be more old school than a Redman album from 92. But either way, they're both over 15 years old. See what i'm saying?

I was raised on post '96 music, really. So, after really falling into love with rap due to nas, jigga, 2pac, dmx, eminem, ludacris, I have a hard time really digging the "old school" rap music.

I'm pretty much of the opinion that if it's older than me, it's "old school"...lol...

Still, I don't personally consider the early 90's to be old school.

for me

Pre - Paid In Full = Old School.
Paid In Full - Chronic = Golden Age.
Chronic - 2001 = 90's Hip-Hop.
2001 - now = wacksville. (minus the odd album here and there).
