I loved Horizon Zero Dawn. Very cool visuals. It's crazy Guerilla Games went from mediocre shooter, Killzone to Horizon Zero Dawn.
I thought Killzone had a good reputation as an exclusive Sony title. I think one of them came out around the time MW2 did back in 2009 and it was a battle between those two games for the best shooter at that time for multiplayer.

I'll have to wait until the weekend to install and try HZD. After reading up on Nioh, it doesn't seem to be the right game for me, or what I was expecting it to be. It's not like DMC series and instead others compared it to Demon Souls.

What'd you guys think of the Sony event today? I didn't watch it live, I just saw snippets here and there from YouTubers talking about it, but it sounded like many fans were underwhelmed by it. They were upset that 9 of the 10 games shown had already been unveiled before and nothing exciting was in it.

I saw the FF7 Integrade video and it looked pretty cool. Of course, I'm also waiting for the first part of the Remake to come to PC or something as it's still a PS4 exclusive.

At least Sony showed something. I haven't really heard a peep from MS since the Bethesda acquisition. Just random Gamepass drops here and there, although the Yakuza series on GPU was pretty big. But nothing big announced for the future. All I hear about on the Xbox side is Halo Infinite but I get the impression from fans that the Halo series sort of died after Halo 3 and every release after that was full of controversy or just simply not good.

I started Horizon Zero Dawn today since I had a day off. Got a few hours in to it and I'm playing it on Story or Easy mode. I forget which one but the description said there was less combat so that the player could focus on the story. And the story is pretty good so far. I get kind of a Final Fantasy X vibe from it where the world looks like it's from a few centuries ago but the enemies and threats look futuristic. Like a blend of historic times and futuristic predictions.

Anyway, it's been good so far and as I'm playing it it feels like Sony had many titles with this style of play and which also received some very high marks. Of course, this game was made by Sony so it was expected to be a 9+/10 game anyway.

I started FF12 this past weekend. I missed the FF series and the last one I had played was X and X-2 shortly afterwards. So,15 years ago? I missed a lot since then so I thought I'd pick up where I left off. This really doesn't feel like a FF game. The dialogue and characters do, but the battle system is a big WTF. Same with the licenses concept. It's still enjoyable but I haven't gotten the same vibes from it as I did with 7-10. Maybe it'll take some time.

I looked into the subsequent FF titles to see the reviews and looks like 13 was well received. 14 was an MMORPG much like 11 and I don't know how popular that was. 15....15 looked really weird in its design and glancing at some of the reviews and the cons listed in those reviews makes it sound like an even bigger departure from the series.

I hate to sound like an old man yelling at the clouds but....this isn't the same series I grew up playing. In fact, I think traditional turn based RPGs are kind of dead and no one makes them like they used to anymore. The only game that comes to mind immediately is Pokemon? lol. I guess Dragon Quest is still going and has kept the original turn based game play but that's it.

I just got FF7 Remake for free on PS Plus.

Might dig in once I've finished my current playthrough of Yakuza Kiwami 2
And I read about April's free games of Oddworld and Days Gone.

Xbox's GWG looks very pedestrian compared to that.

Try Divinity 2

If Steam launched its own subscription service they'd become the biggest game in town on day one. They have by far the largest user base, and their game library is orders of magnitude bigger than that of the Xbox storefronts and Playstation Stores combined. I don't see why they'd make a deal with Microsoft rather than launch their own subscription service.

Just a thought but MS might be offering the big bucks. Like the $17-20 million they just threw at Nuance. Or $7 billion for Zenimax/Bethesda

https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2021/04/rumour_multiple_parties_interested_in_square_enix_buyout

I don't know how big of a player Square is anymore in the gaming world. I do know that I would play almost anything released by them, and not just the Final Fantasy series. But I feel like it would be a huge acquisition and might really tilt the leverage in to whoever buys it's favor. I know Bethesda was a huge acquisition for MS and if they get Square too, that's really going to hurt Sony. Since FF7, I always felt that Square was a pseudo-second party developer under Sony, even if games made their way to other consoles and PC. If Sony lost Square, that's going to be huge. It'll be and for Sony users and good for everyone else since I bet the FF series won't be so slow to come to PC as well as Xbox.

Maybe this is just a rumor or it eventually falls through but it certainly has the internet buzzing right now.

If it came under MS's control and then had everything on Gamepass permanently, that might deal the deal for me to get Gamepass and maybe an Xbox, depending if I can get by on PC. Pants will be shat if MS continued to be more pro-consumer and got ports of all the classic Square games from the NES days up until now, all on Gamepass.

NVM, looks like Square just came out and said no one approached them to purchase them.
Unless....that's what they want us to think when they surprise us with the announcement in the future.

Next gen consoles are quite awesome, but I'm sticking with the PC. I have the One X if needed for anything with a local multiplayer. It's good enough for that since it runs the same games as the Series X, just worse, which doesn't matter for occasional casual gaming.

I I had no PC but wanted to play the newest games, the Series X is almost perfect. PS5 isn't a bad choice either, but the GamePass is what makes it super appealing to me.

I have a 5000 dollar desktop computer in parts ready in a shopping cart on this web store. I can't afford it this year even, but I'm gonna get a PC like that next year or the year after.

Do you still find value in the Xbox ecosystem with Gamepass if you pay the $15 per month for GPU and then buy the games you want to play that won't be on GPU? If MS is going to continue to offer GPU for a one-time $1 and then $15 conversion fee of Live, that'd be a great deal. But as it stands now, a year of Live is about $60 if you get the 12 month card from Costco. GPU is $15 a month so $180 a year. And then if you like games like COD, which likely won't be on GPU, that's another $60 per game like COD in addition to it.

I know it's not all that expensive but it's still a sharp increase in price over the $60 a year people are used to paying. A threefold increase.

I really wonder how many people that are currently on the GPU promo for a $1 conversion will continue to subscribe once they're forced to pay full price again. Don't forget, MS was ready to launch Live for $120 a year a few months back before they got blasted for it. So basically 50% of the cost of a Series S per year for GPU plus the cost of whatever game you wanted that wasn't on GPU that you purchase separately.

Might be worth it for hardcore gamers who play 10 games a year but for filthy casuals who like the popular titles that are part of a series that gets a new release every year like COD or Madden or FIFA, it might not make too much sense.

I don't know. I'm still figuring it all out. Only recently have new titles started to trickle out after the lockdown put a damper on development for the past year. I'm waiting for one side to earn business by having a must-have release that's exclusive to that console. Otherwise, I can play COD or Madden on any system.

Have you tried gaming on your phone with GPU? I think there are two options for streaming your games, either from MS's servers or from your actual Xbox at home.

Is that $5000 including the price gouging on the 3000 series cards due to short supply?

This damn PS5 is impossible to find.
I see Gamestop and Walmart post stuff on IG when they're about to have a drop. They usually post a day before but definitely a few hours before the drop. You could probably set alerts on those inventory sites like Popfinder or something,

It's actually including a RTX 2060 that an online store over here keeps in stock for the time being. I just put this list together. But by the time I actually buy the PC, DDR6 ram and PCIe 5.0 is probably out, so I'll get the equivalent stuff then. If I had the money now, I would get:

Fractal Design Define R7
ASUS ROG Thor 1200w
ASUS ROG VIII Crosshair Dark Hero
Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD
AMD Ryzen 9 5950X / Noctua NH-D15
4x 8GB HyperX Predator 4600mhz
2x WD Ultrastar 8TB
ASUS Geforce RTX 3080 ROG

Thought that would probably be like 5.5-6k.

Yeah, that looks like $800- $1K in storage alone. I also didn't realize that it's probably in Euros not USD. I think it'd be about $3K here.
