I have a quarter of a million page views on my G+ page. A music community I started on there gets dozens of new posts every day.

Failure my ass.

But G+ isn't a social network, anyway. It's an identity layer. Before G+, most Google owned services had separate logins, separate privacy policies, no shared identity. G+ solved that problem.
But when it was released, didn't you say it was better than Facebook and was going to overcome it, especially because of privacy settings and such? Then how is it not a social network, despite it not doing what it was initially predicted to do (make Facebook its bitch)?

Identity layer? Is that sugar coated bullshit for what most people don't want happening, which is the changes to YouTube log ins, commenting, etc.? And Google trying to constantly push G+ on its users just because they use GMail or other Google services?

If Apple were doing this, people would still shit on Steve Jobs and his policies and ideas and mock Apple for fucking its users.

I honestly can't say I've used G+ to look up info. on a business, so I can't really speak to that. I guess I have seen menus for restaurants show up on Google search without having to click on a menu link, or something. Is that what it is?

G+ killed Google Maps comments, which was an awesome thing, because nobody wants to comment on a place throught their real name. I stopped as well. Same with Google Play for me. I basically stopped any social activity on any Google services that I used to do before the G+ integration. I know I'd be better if G+ ceased to exist. It's one of those services that actually gets in the way of many users.

It HAS a social network but it ISN'T a social network.

And identity layers are more popular than you'd think. Most apps these days, allow you to sign in using either your Facebook, Twitter or Google logins. It saves you having a different account for every service and it provides secure access through a reliable platform.

Facebook popularity is declining with key markets. Especially teens. This is why they bought Instagram and WhatsApp which are strong in those demographics.

By all accounts, G+ popularity is growing. Anecdotal evidence, but my 15 year old niece recently deactivated her Facebook account and activated her G+ account.

But Google+'s social layer doesn't need to pass Facebook in content usage.

Google already has the most popular social network in the world. It's called YouTube.

I'm sure FB is becoming less popular for many reasons. The privacy settings are shit, the UI changes (and shit) every six months or so, and most of the things you used to be able to do on Facebook are now being brought out by separate services and made much better.

Twitter is better than status updates and I've grown to love it to get my news from it. Instagram is the one place everyone goes to share their photos now, and despite being bought by FB and being able to be integrated with it, many people still prefer to use IG over sharing pics on Facebook. We know this because people now use the phrase "I'm putting this on Instagram." SnapChat has a role in there somewhere too.

I think all these individual services, collectively tore Facebook apart. Even I've deactivated FB to study and I don't really miss. I do reactivate every so often just to check, but I really could live without it and not really have many missed connections. I still stay in touch using Hangouts or email. I still get my news from Twitter.

My point being, I don't think something with the structure of FB is going to last long. Whatever G+ is, I have not even accidentally stumbled upon a use for it. Others can use it, fine, but it's not for me.

The problem I have is associating my real name with it. I need to use my real name for my GMail account, but Google wants me to use it to post a YouTube comment. I'd rather not have my account associated with the comments section of a YT video that has gone viral, even if I'm not saying anything vulgar or embarrassing. I can not imagine using my Google Account to log in to another site. I've seen sites ask for Google info to log in but that's just one more thing I'd rather not associate my account with. It's the same reason I don't use Facebook to log in with any other service either, lest my name be used on something like Spotify where it can take note that I "favorited" Koon Jamz 42 playlist.

Sure, it's easier to just associate everything with Google, but I'd rather not. I think I might have my Flickr or Box.com account and maybe Dropbox associated with Google. That's it. I trust those sites and those sites I actually really need some connection with Google to access documents or send files to others. I wouldn't use FB to even log into SH.

Google needs to set some boundaries for itself. Not everyone wants their name plastered on a YouTube video of a chimp playing with his scrotum.

About your article, every thing must eventually come to an end. If I understood correctly, the author was afraid people will pay no attention to LG's offerings and focus instead on the self-made war between Apple and Samsung. Apple may be around for a while because it is the more popular and desirable phone amongst the average user. It's who will take Samsung's spot when they run out of steam?

A few years ago, it was HTC. Remember the HTC 4G (not sure what it was properly called but it was the first phone with a front facing camera?)? Remember the Droid Incredible? Remember Motorola was actually relevant too with the OG Droid and the each subsequent release of a "Droid-something?"

Then Samsung took over with the S2 using the S1 like a springboard. It's only a matter of time before LG gets a firm hold on the average consumer's attention as well. It'll happen. People loved the N4. The N5 got even more praise. When it comes to who reps Android in the next round against the iPhone 6 or next year against the 6S, I think it will be LG. Not sure about HTC, since their phones have wowed a lot of my friends that have used them recently, but it might be a little too late for them to come around. I think LG has the attention of Google and even other OEMs as being a serious player this cycle. I didn't believe even a few months ago, but now they look like solid, legit contenders.

Samsung will fall soon, like Moto and HTC did after their 2010-11 success. I think LG will take over after that before handing it off to someone else a few years later.

I bought a Moto G today. My Nexus 5 screen started flickering so I'm getting it repaired under the warranty. A factory reset seems actually to have calmed down the flickering, but I'm not convinced it isn't a hardware issue somehow. The Moto G will last me in the interim then I'll put it on eBay.

I've got a brand new packaged Moto G phone case and screen protector that I'm selling for £5... if you wanna buy it and then sell it as a bundle with the phone...

So... I thought a few networks would be allowing the preorder of the G3, today. I am looking for it come up, much like a fiend. Been a while since I wanted a phone.

I wonder if Android will have a Messaging app as nifty as iOS's. Watching the keynote now and I like this voice message thing. Share location and attachments too.

EDIT: And I want to be able to seamlessly answer texts from my computer. I'm sure anyone with a desk job would want the same as well. And if you click on a phone number on your computer, it calls through your phone but uses your computer as a speakerphone. I guess the Hangouts extension for Chrome does that, but that extension is not on Firefox, so that's a con.

Features-wise, I think it is. I haven't used Whatsapp in over a year now. Being backed by Facebook helps and so does not requiring a Google Account. Typical Google will ignore this thing unless it absolutely has to be done and everyone is sick of it, then they'll fix it somehow. But it needs to be fixed.

One big plus is being able to answer messages on multiple devices. Be it a tablet, phone, or your computer. It's a feature I wanted in Whatsapp since I've been using it because I'm not always by my phone. And it's hard to sit on it for much longer, because now Apple has introduced the ability to answer calls and texts on your computer, even if your phone is far away. Google needs to do something about that.

Did Chrome on Windows have a 64 bit browser? I just read something that said they announced 64 bit downloads in the Canary download section for Windows. I always thought Windows did have 64, it was just OSX that didn't and that's why the people that didn't use Chrome on OSX chose not to do so. Hopefully we see a 64 OSX release as well soon.

My dad needs tablets for his clinic now. He asked about Samsung, but I just told him it would be easier to deal with if he had iOS for him and his staff since it was much more user-friendly and was supported by more services, if he chose to subscribe to them. Only thing now is does he go for the Air or the rMini. He needs the more portable of the two and I don't think he needs the larger screen.
