It's amazing. How did he
ever get another head coaching job? After the "job" he did with the Knicks? If the Bobcats were looking for someone and he just barely got the job, I'd say OK, they're making a mistake, but at least he's got experience. I would understand their choice.
But the Lakers job? Wow. Here's to another year of Kobe death-stares and an unhappy (re: unproductive) Dwight Howard. Keep in mind, this is the guy who begged ownership not to pull the trigger on the Melo deal. He preferred Danilo Gallinari to Carmelo Anthony. But, yeah, he knows basketball.
Trust me. D'Antoni is a clueless basketball coach. His sub rotations defy all logic. His attitude on defense is "when they score, we'll get the ball back." He has a long history of alienating superstars. This will lead to dysfunction, disunion, and ultimately disappointment in Laker land. My sympathies. Yes, they'll make the playoffs. They're very talented. But there is a reason D'Antoni doesn't have a ring. In fact there are many, many reasons. I saw a new one every night in New York. I admit the Knicks roster mostly sucked when he was here, but you learn things about a guy when he coaches your team. I think great coaches (or even good ones) get their teams to work hard. No D'Antoni-coached team has ever worked harder than they had to. You realize how hard Mark Cuban is laughing right now, don't you?
I understand Phil said no. It's a shame, because as we were all fearing (or hoping, if you're for some reason a Lakers fan), Phil would have probably gotten them a ring. Now they've completely taken themselves out of it. That coach and this roster? It's mind-numbing.
