Sofi, I'd say go for whatever feels good to you. You already use MacOS on your computer so I assume you like the Apple experience. I use Android because I genuinely like it. I feel like I can do anything with my phone and that's awesome. A friend wants to send me files via wifi on our university - great. A friend of mine has free 3g internet and we're on a trip - he hosts a wifi hotspot for everyone that I can use. I need to charge my phone or transfer some files at friend's house? No problem. - usb, bluetooth ,wifi file transfer - whatever you prefer. I need to download anything, I don't like anything about my app drawer or something, I just change it. I love that about Android. I genunely dislike what Iphones feel like to me, and I love the comfort of having an Android phone that just works and does everything I want it to without worrying about limitations.

When I have to use an Iphone it takes more time to figure out how to do something that I could easily do on an Android phone and sometimes I'm stuck realizing that it's impossible. I also genuinely dislike the fact that there's one physical button and far less transparent UI controls.

I think you might need to spend more time with Iphones, maybe even get one for a moment if you really like them. You'll either change your mind about Iphones and realize that what you thought wasn't just you trying to convince yourself to liking a product that deep inside isn't as appealing to you or have a product that you'll like more. I always pick the phone that I just like the most, and one that would work better for me.
However I confess that most "dumbed down" software solutions don't work well for me, because I think in system paths, processes and file extensions when using an operating system and I'd hate an OS that would think that it does something better than I would (like grouping files in a different way than by folders, launching and closing apps randomly etc.). I know exactly what I want and I'd love a system that allows me to take full control of it. That's ironically part of the reason why I don't like some things about Android, but cusom ROMS and the ICS update is a move in the right direction and frankly, there's no mobile OS that would work better for me.

Also I feel like I'm relatively limited with Android hardware choices because there's no perfect package, so I have to pick whatever is the closest to my needs. With Iphone 4S I'd be extremely limited with an old-school screen and outdated design. And I'd be paying a huge premium for no gain whatsoever. There's seriously nothing that could justify switching to iOS for me. I could justify getting it in form of an Ipad if I needed a tablet but I'd have different uses for a tablet and the Ipad is really good hardware-wise - it's actually better than most high-end Android tablets.
If you feel like you could seriously enjoy iOS more, give it a try, really.

I agree with ARon - I get bored within 5 minutes of using iOS. Launch app. Press Home button to return to grid of squares. Launch another app. Press Home button to return to grid of squares. Rinse and repeat. Yawn.

Okay. I have spent about 5 hours fucking about with my phone. It is rooted. Everything is transferred over. All home screens set up. All apps. All how I want it. very happy.

CM9 is basically stable now for most devices in the nightlies. The full stable release is coming soon. Just flashed it on my S2. Before I was using a rooted TouchWiz 4.0.4 with Nova Launcher on top. It's so much faster and smoother now.

Battery isn't great on CM9 for me. With a new kernel and custom ICS I charge my phone every 3 days, which is a very good score for a smartphone and satisfying for me. It's also extremely smooth. The custom ICS that I use is modified by a high school student and I'm amazed at how much of a better job he did over a few weeks compared to a freaking international company hiring hundreds of programmers.

It was my birthday last week and i got iTunes vouchers. Nice of my cousins to get that for me, but I think they should've known that a) I download my music for free and b) I dislike iTunes and c) If I wanted to buy music I'd go to Google Play or Amazon (as I have done in the past). I'll try and get them to exchange the voucher for Amazon or something. I've been thinking for months that Google need to make Google Play gift cards in shops so that people can buy Apps, Movies, Music and Books. It'll also help boost the awareness of the Play Store because all people seem to know is Apple's App Store and iTunes. I feel that Google should really go down that route.

Also, do the Android tablets have a sleep or hibernate mode much like Microsoft Windows? That way the battery could last longer when it's not in use.

Yeah, Google gift card and Google play "pre-paid" cards are the way to go. NOBODY here would put their credit/debit card number online, so almost nobody buys paid apps here.

They should go the Xbox Live way with pre-paid cards imho. They could sell a card with QR code inside, you could scan it and that would add cash to your Google Play store account.

They are likely considering that. Google Play needs a worldwide launch of the books and music sections first. Maybe we'll hear an update on that at I/O.

like what? it seems pretty intuitive to me.

Yeah, I agree that with the way the Android system works, there is no one perfect phone that is better than every other phone in every way. I don't like that but it works better for the overall market because more choice is generally better.

I'm torn about switching because although I use a Mac and love the experience, I'm relatively more dependent on the Google ecosystem (gmail, drive, etc). Also, with the frequency that new Android handsets come on the market, I feel like there's a chance a new Android phone would come out that I would absolutely love over the iPhone and then I'd regret my decision. In the end, I just might buy an iPhone and get a prepaid plan instead and use both concurrently and see what I like more. Also, I'd definitely wait for the iPhone 5.

^lol. that guy said almost exactly what I said, but backed it up with a few good examples. It's not like he covers the whole issue though because it happens with really a lot of things that you do. Apparently there are 5 of those comparison videos that guy made and that might be a good idea for you, Sofi to check out.

Then there are these little annoying things like being unable to correct mistakes inside of a word when sending a text message, being unable to scroll up/down fast (swiping in Android can take you all the way to the top/bottom as opposed to iOS), lack of flash is really annoying, notification system sucking with notifications disappearing, no file management and no saving attachments, no installing apps outside of itunes and app store but again I think lack of the back button is the most annoying - those UI issues come to my mind but I'm sure there are really a lot of those little annoyances that would make my life harder during daily tasks.

and you have to worry about Apple shafting you all the time, leading you to jailbreak to get simple features. Like I think it was the first iPhone, it had a camera, but they didn't allow it to record video because they wanted you to buy the next iPhone in order to do that. So you had to jailbreak it to add camcorder functionality that it was perfectly capable of doing. I think they're doing the same thing with their new Maps functionality, the older iPhones are perfectly capable of handling it but the official updates won't contain all the features for older devices.
