I like the build of Samsung phones. The plastic-type shell doesn't make it seem that its cheap to me, it makes it seem elegant. Metal feels cheap. It also makes you feel like you're holding a brick in your hand even if it's not heavy.

It matters what's on the inside. Samsung has the durable exterior and the more powerful internals. HTCs look so brittle. They look nice and a bit more "professional" than most other phones (so do Samsungs) but they feel like a drop will ruin it all.

Exactly. I'd say that Samsung's recent build quality is superior to HTC. Of course a metal unibody FEELS more solid but it's really not. When a solid plastic phone (Samsungs) falls and hits the ground usually nothing happens because the plastic absorbs a lot of the damage without falling apart, because it's made to withstand that.
When a metal phone falls the risk of components falling apart and display breaking is higher. Also, paradoxally it's easier to scratch HTC metal than Samsung's plastic. And metal feels cold and like Sofi mentioned, like holding a brick.
The only positive of having a metal phone imho is that it looks better to most people. But I can see really a lot of people thinking that Samsung's build quality is low because they use "cheap plastic". That's far from truth but I can understand that misconception. In the past it was obvious that metal is better than plastic because of the cheap plastic that everyone used. But it's not the 90s cheap toy-ish plastic that people think of when they hear "plastic". I'd go as far as saying that Samsung has some of the best (if not best) build quality on their phones lately. I've heard about a lot of HTC phones failing and I'm yet to hear about a broken Samsung phone. I can also honestly say that my previous Samsung phones were of far greater build quality than my Sony Ericsson - and that company was always known for good build quality.

has anyone considered getting the Samsung Galaxy Note? Big screen, more powerful than the Galaxy Nexus (Dual Core 1.4Ghz as opposed to Dual Core 1.2GHz; albeit less efficient), larger battery capacity, stylus, great for media - will have ICS soon and is marginally cheaper than the nexus.

I'd definitely pick Galaxy Note over Nexus. But it's a bit too big imho. And both are far too expensive - I wouldn't pay that much for a phone. Even the SGS2 is too expensive for me, I often look at my Arc and while I like it I can't stop thinking that I won't pay that much for a phone next time.
i think i'd be happy with another single core phone, but a number of these dual cores will be getting ICS before the singles. if i was to go for a dual core, it'd be out of the SGN, SGS2 or the SGNote. I think Samsung are running the show. I quite like that the HTC phones are including the beats earphones but im fairly happy with my £15 over-ear headphones that do the job more than capably. their 2011 lineup has disappointed me though. Sony Ericsson will possibly edge out LG and compete with Samsung next year IMO, but they have a lot of catching up to do.
The thing with the Note is that you'd look like a complete cunt trying to make a phonecall with it. You'd have to use a Bluetooth. It's just ridiculously big.

Not really. ICS works on single cores flawlessly. Sony Ericsson already said that their whole 2011 line-up will get ICS at the same time (even the Xperia mini).
The one and only thing is that manufacturers have an opportunity to be dicks and force people to buy newer products with ICS out there blaming hardware limitations of 'older' or lower end phones. Obviously there are no hardware limitations and you can run anything on an 'older' 1ghz phone, and ICS is supposed to be better optimized than Gingerbread! Dual core phones are still an overkill, despite what they want people to believe, and they really want people to believe that you should get a new phone every few months now.
So far HTC and Samsung are very strange with their stance on ICS updates. There's no word on Galaxy S update to ICS yet while it easily meets any hardware demands for ICS. They only recently said that SGS2 will get the update! lol.
Actually same story with HTCs. Actually it's pretty bad seeing that.
No, it comes with a simple way to disable them. They just haven't done so yet in the ROM being built in the above video.
Source code was rumored to be released yesterday, right? When should we expect ROMs? At least for the OG Droid, where it's still a phone a lot of people have, but at the same time well past its prime, I think a week from now is reasonable enough, right?
