I listened well enough, I'm not sure how specific I need to be if I just don't feel the lyrics. Kanye has never been a great lyricist or a great rapper but he seemed to get away with it and rightly so, but this time I feel that I can't listen to him any more, the lyrics just seem bland, his flow is off in places and his lines don't seem to grab me like before, most of the time I just wish it was more of a instrumental album.

I really don't understand the hype with the album, some people are calling it an all time great, and I just don't hear it. It's the same with a few records out lately, not really feeling much of Buddens Mood Muzik 4, or J.Coles mixtape. Even though these 3 artists would be in my top 5/10 right now.

Wow cant believe you called Nineteen Ninety Now "sleep inducing". Nineteen Ninety Now is more of a rap album to me than Kanyes. Though obviously rap albums can have more than one sound and be aimed at different sorts of fans. Kanyes is obviously geared more towards a pop audience where as Celph titled is geared towards fans of 90s boom bap. Not sure if your familliar with Pigeon Johns album he dropped this year, Its got many influences from many different genres, but to me its still a rap album. Maybe we're just different types of fans.

I listened to Kanyes CD earlier (weird ass artwork btw). Its not as bad as I thought it would be. The first track is awesome. I didnt get to pay a great amount of attention to the lyrics cos I was in work. But I did find myself cringing a few times, especially at that track with the Iron Man hook, thought that was horrible and a few times had to ask myself did he really say that about some of his and guest rappers lyrics. Plus I was really enjoying Devil In A New Dress until Rick Ross completely ruined it.

Overall I was pleasently surprised but its not something I would really go back to. That Masterpiece line you quoted was nice.

Esoteric is still holding on to the album of the year crown for me!
I mostly agree with this.

I like it though my favorite song is That's My Bitch which didn't make the cut. Q-Tip laced a beat that was genius on that joint.

Sure, you can compare the albums. You can compare them because they both have beats and rhymes. Both from successful, mainstream artists. Both will sell/have sold over a million. But then, where do you go from there? What do you actually get out of saying that one is better than the other? What do you compare them on? What's the criteria? Is it simply a matter of what you like more? You may like one more than the other, but it doesn't make that one better than the other.

Can we compare No Country For Old Men to Slumdog Millionaire? We could, they both won Oscars. But why?

My main thing is, I think in these comparisions, Kanye's album might fall short among the Streethop populace, but I feel for the wrong reasons and it would anger me more so than the replies did already in this thread.

I don't think people should compared Recovery and MBDTF. Both are different musically and lyrically. Where Em impresses lyrically Nye impresses musically. Both are brilliant in their own ways. I think both have replay value. I think Nye outdid himself in this album. And I can really feel that he wants to be perceived as a musician, an artist, not only a rapper.

MBDTF is definitely a rap album although it doesn't sound like your typical rap album. It is out of box rap. Some people like to stay in their box. That's fine. To each their own. I don't listen to much rap anymore cause the beats are all similar nowadays and lyrics don't matter too much for me. Albums like Kanye's bring me back to the genre.

I was looking for ways to compare Recovery and MBDTF.... I came up with Eminem's ridiculous flow, and superior delivery.... I was going to talk about the percussion on All Of The Lights being better than any of the drums on Recovery... Then I drew a blank.... I agree with SOFI, we can't actually compare them. We can say which we prefer, but they are difficult to compare as works. This doesn't make any less of a rap album though. They are just different classifications, within a classification.

Most of ya'll don't agree with me on reviews, but fuck ya'll.

First, let me say a comment:

I think this album is comparable to Recovery, in the sense that the "Choruses" aren't that great. There is something missing in this album, just like Eminems album, but overall they are good albums.

Here's mine after one listen:

The beats are either great, or kind of bland. I feel like he tried to pull off the better version of where Rap is headed, but not there yet... where Instead of punchlines, rappers use lines that can be interpreted two different ways....More over, the "new punchline."

Overall, after one listen, the album is 4/5, the thing that stops it from being a 5/5, is the choruses, he fucks with his vocals too much, and i feel he needed one more anthem, like "Power."

"Power" - Is my favorite beat, song, rap, anthem, you name it...on this album.

Ya'll gonna hate on me for this, but on:

"Monster" - Kanye and Jay-Z got murdered by Nicki as far as flow and creativity. Kanye had one hot line in it and it's been played around with by so many people that it doesn't have that "PUNCH" in it no more. "Im living in the future, my present is the past"....that was too much like Big L with a "Lil Wayne Bland style" and Jay-Z's flow wasn't on beat imo...actually, he fucking sucks, and I rather it have been Eminem on the song. He'd of fucking killed talking about "MONSTER" On this song. Nicki switched her style so much, but stayed in the style at the same time the whole time. I feel she road the beat at one point like how i pictured eminem doing it. I'm not saying she's on his level, but i feel she studied Lil Wayne coming into the game, and now she's studying Eminem.

Nicki >>>>Kanye>>>>>>>>>Jay-Z

"Blame" - Sounds TOO much like "Airplanes" to me, that I can't stand it...but listenable. Make sense? Not really. =/

"Runaway" - I like the chorus, but i feel if he changed the lyrics to something 'better' it would have been better, but critic aside, and as a fan, i love it.

I'm not gonna touch on every song, just the ones that got my attention right away.

P.S. sorry of some of this don't make sense, it's 3:20am.

We don't agree because they're straight up doo doo.

Also, Jigga murderered Monster. They were all tight verses.

Everybody wanna know what my achilles heel is...
LOVE, I dont get enough of it
All I get is these vampires and blood suckers
All I see is these niggas I’ve made millionnaires
Milling about, spilling their feelings in the air
All I see is these fake fucks with no fangs
Tryna draw blood from my ice cold veins

If that's off-beat and not dope (because it's fucking real, look up the recent beanie sigel fuckery), I don't know what is. It's truth, for fuck's sake.

and Blame Game doesn't sound like Airplanes. That is the most retarded song comparison ever lol.

Blame Games instrumental, reminds me of Airplanes. That's all, not the song itself.

Props for admitting unlike others, that they were ALL tight verses.

I just felt he was off beat trying to put emotion, and I didn't receive the emotion in it...i never have and probably never will feel Jay as an "emotional artist"

and yes, I realized that what he was saying was a diss toward Beanie, but that don't mean nothing.

Those lyrics had absolutly no punchline, enough rhyme scheme or whatever to keep me entertained...and, since imo he was 'off beat' or unflowed well it just didnt get me.

If you put:

"All I see is these niggas I’ve made millionnaires
Milling about, spilling their feelings in the air"

On paper, it's real, but do you think that specific line came from a "Jay-Z" if you hadn't known who it was from?
You can read it and put any rappers name to it.

If it came from "Tupac" everyone would say it was real, but then the "east coast" would say, "That's not MCish"

If you're going to be rapping on a track called Monster, either flow like Kanye with a few good meanings, or be creative like Nicki.
If you want to be real, fine, but pick a better rhyme scheme to not sound like a douche being in the middle of the track when Kanye and Nicki had better rhyme schemes.

It's totally random and doesn't even rhyme properly.

I am not denying her lyrics were decent (not spectacular). But... She used a retarded annoying voice. That is enough to make it shit.

I agree with SOFI. Jigga came with his A-Game. It does rhyme, and flow is on point.

You have to be trolling. I'll bite nonetheless.

His weakspot is love but he doesn't get enough of it. All he gets is people trying to leech money off of him. All he sees is former label associates he put out there and helped sell records, recentlymaking songs talking about their personal and emotional issues with Jay after they stopped selling records. All he sees is fake fucks with no fangs (fangs referencing the vampires and blood suckers line three lines before), trying to draw blood (blood relating to fangs and vampires, draw blood meaning to pick a fight/start a war) from his ice cold veins (where fangs can bite in) and ice cold veins meaning he is cold-blooded and does not give a fuck about these fake fucks with no fangs. AND if you listen to the song, it rhymes.

now I just SON-ned you and Shadows together. I am SOFI the daddy and you two are my little children who I just abused.
