What do you think?

I'd go with The Last Emperor.
I think The Last Emperor is one of the top MCs. His lyrics and flow are great almost always. He has a few awesome albums that didn't sell well though - it's really unbelievable to me.
There are also decent unreleased tracks.
Then there's MC Exposition - not many people actually know him but he's really good.

I posted this in another thread already but I guess not many people have checked it out.
A track with The Last Emperor and MC Exposition from the latest Edu Leedz album:

Then there's OC and Sean P on my list but they are way less underrated. They sell quite well (but should be way more recognized imo).

That's about MCs for me at the moment. I'm too lazy to list producers and groups as there's a lot of underrated ones. There are also these producers that made a few decent beats but are not great overall so I wouldn't want to risk listing them.

Your opinions?

emcee wise... i still think Black Thought is the most underrated emcees of all time.

The thing with people like Last Emperor is that, I dont think he's underrated, he's just unknown to most people. He's criminally slept on, but the people that actually have listened to his music recognize the talent he possesses.

Whereas a person like Black Thought has probably been heard by more or less every hip hop fan over 16, yet he's rarely ever mentioned with the best.

And some of the others mentioned, to each his own I guess but...

Bone Thugs? really? I dont see how they're underrated, they're recognized as one of the greatest groups in 90's hip hop, by most rap fans I've been in contact with atleast. And are also recognized for that signature midwest sound.

Luniz.. I enjoy they're music, but are pretty overrated as a whole. If anything Numskull is underrated, Yukmouth, to me is ridiculously overrated by westcoast fans.

Crooked I... wayy too inconsistent in my opinion. I cant even bother listening to him anymore, I feel like he's a waste of talent.

... anyways just my opinion on some of the ones mentioned.

Peace

Not long ago I found his demo tape from... 1995! I can't believe that he was so slept on for THAT long. It's pretty unbelievable:

In the beginning he was on Dre's label (Aftermath) and then Rawkus. All of these tracks are unheard - I'd so want to hear them.
Then in 2003 his first solo album came out. His tracks recorded between 95 and 2003 are probably awesome.

Joe Budden

Yes he had a hit song 7 years ago and is semi famous, but he is a great rapper IMO....

Even if you dislike his theatrics with all the blogging and all the little beefs you cant deny his rapping ability....

I never was a fan until I started listening because of Slaughterhouse, but I was missing out....

"Downfall" is one of the better tracks, as far as real, introspective records, that Ive heard in a long time
