Here's the perfect thing to kick start this thread. Just leaked, never before heard - the full version of 'Starlight' which is the original demo version of Thriller.

I do notice they play MJ more in clubs and bars after his death.

^ I don't *really* mind since it's mostly his cracking songs, but I could care less for the post-mortum revelry.

Its funny how songs are written to fit a beat. The 'starlight' song sound just fine over the beat. Definitely never heard it before. 'Thriller' ended being an instant classic using the same beat and possibly arrangement. What if 'thriller' was never recorded? I wonder if MJ's career was still destined to be huge if it wasn't put out. Or was 'thriller' always in the works regardless of whether 'starlight' was recorded?

Amazing choreography at the end. What video were they shooting? That was pretty funny how he left the Grammy at the podium, must have been winning them all night and, didn't mind leaving one behind :D

Thanks for the video Casey. I showed some of my family members, they were trippin out.

I honestly don't think his career would have been AS huge.

Most people that mention him, mention THRILLER, before "moon walk" and other stuff he is known for.

Well, what sent MJ into the stratosphere was a combination of things, the two main things being the 'Thriller' video and the Motown 25 performance of 'Billie Jean' where he debuted the Moonwalk. This performance:

Thing is, he was already a superstar by that point. I don't think it's really possible to speculate on what the difference would have been if it were not for Thriller (the song itself).

Anyway, to continue this thread with more goodies. Some of you guys may have seen me mention before that MJ did a whole album with Stevie Wonder in the early 70's while at Motown that has never been released. The good news is that the lead track from that album, 'Buttercup' just got released on a brand new Jackson 5 compilation. Enjoy!

Great performance. Even Prince is clapping at exactly the 10:00 mark :)

What's real interesting about that performance is that, up until 7min30, Mike is lipsyncing to the studio version of the song but the backing singers are live. After that point, Mike's mic comes on and he sings and adlibs the rest of it live.

That whole '86-'89 'Bad'/'Moonwalker' era has always been my favorite MJ era.

Here's one clip that is in my Top 5 MJ performance EVER.

'Dangerous' at the 1995 MTV Video Awards. The choreography is flawless, the execution flawless, the way the song mashes up to include parts of 'Smooth Criminal' is sick, and at 4.28 when he includes Janet's "Get the point? Good - let's dance" from her Rhythm Nation album is genius. Watch this video if you haven't seen it before, it'll blow your head off.

I'd never seen that performance at the Grammy Awards before.

I always wondered about this. Did Madonna kick off the whole choir backup with her song 'like a prayer'? I know it may sound like a dim question. Its just that its probably the first pop song that I heard with a choir in the background. I'll take it or leave it but, to me 'like a prayer' has to be one of the greatest songs of all time.

Off the top of my head, I absolutely love the choir on 'man in the mirror', 'cry', and 'will you be there'.

No, she didn't. "Like A Prayer" came out in 1989, "Man In The Mirror" came out in 1987, but David Bowie had a gospel choir on his song "Underground" in 1986.

1987.....1989......Thanks for clearing that up. David Bowie? Now that's a realm of music I'm maybe not ready to get into yet :D
