let's do this again

haven't read any posts but i'll just say this:

as much as drunk driving is socially uncacceptable, i just know too many people who that hasn't stopped them from doing it. i think everyone i know who has a driver's license and has a car has done it at least once (except for me cause i'm such a good person!).

i highly doubt people will stop eating meat. has been happening ever since the human existed. we need meat and the nutrients it contains, not all the fake shit vegans eat and that don't work as well as thereal nutrients.

Hi, I don't eat "fake shit" I eat plant based food. Thanks. :)
Vegetables, beans, legumes, rice, pasta, tempeh, seitan, quinoa.. not sure how any of that is fake..

Wow _carmi, are you serious? Im not going to drag you over the coals for that one, but please at least educate yourself.

Synful is right.

For example, I just had a burger, lentil patty, beetroot, egg, lettuce, ranch sauce, cheese, sun dried tomatos and ogorki (polish pickles). What is fake about any of that?

i agree with carmi .. how could people be on top of the food chain as we are and not eat meat .. vegetarianism is a joke in this sense

Humans are not on the top of the food chain. That kind of thinking is just ignorant humans thinking we are at the top of the world and entitled to do whatever we want.

Lions, tigers, sharks, etc are at the top of the food chains in their environments because they are not naturally hunted by anything, humans do not share the same luxury.

If it wasnt for weapons we would get our ass kicked by those animals, and would have no hope in taking them down. Therefore no, humans are not naturally at the top of the food chain.

And the argument that we've been eating meat since we were cave men so we should continue doing it is flawed.

There is evidence to show that early man in fact ate early man; so should we still do that? Early man "took" whatever women they wanted, yes, rape, and killed whoever they could; should we still do that? No. Society evolved past such barbaric acts, and could evolve past eating meat as well.

I dunno why I quoted, but what made you give up meat Rukas?

Nice to see you around man.

I didn't read any of the other posts but,our brain is what puts us at the top of the food chain. Does this mean we should eat meat and not give a fuck? No. That is a an idiots argument.

Now good night.

Gave up chicken first because it reminded me of my pet birds, then realized I never ate lamb or veal because baby animals are cute, and realized I cant justify one life over the other based on looks. So I just stopped eating meat as a test just to see if I could do it, and found that I felt better than ever. Just felt lighter, had more energy, felt like I was in my teens again, so stuck with it.

For me it's like, why kill another life only to eat something that makes my health and thus life worse?

I dont really have the scientific quotes and stuff that Casey does its just my logic, common sense and own personal observations. But I used to eat steak once a week and meat every day, and no matter how you sugar coat it (or sauce coat it), that is rotting flesh in your gut. I just felt lighter and better without it. And I dont mean lighter as in weight, which hasnt changed, I mean just lighter on my feet, like meat was slowing me down. I cant really explain it.

My girlfriend gave up meat like 4 months after I did and feels great too.

As long as you eat a healthy diet, which you should be anyway, you dont get anything extra from meat, I didnt, just animal flesh holding me down.

For the record, my main problem is the mass production of life simply to kill it and feed people. Plus the deforestation caused by grazing animals. Here in Australia they have completely fucked up the top soil, which leads to run off into the river and other problems. But yeah, I dont like the idea of creating a life, simply to eat it.

I guess if I was out in the forest I would hunt though, because that is survival of the fittest, and Id rather not starve, and that animal had it's life and chance. But as long as I can sustain my life (and be healthier for it) without meat, I wont eat it.

what puts us on top of the food chain is our brain.

maybe we should get rid of the wheel

No, what puts us on top of the food chain is what we choose to do or not do. I think what they are saying is that we could choose to totally excuse our selves from the food chain, we have the ability and technology.

It's not even technology though, its not like we need some futuristic invention to be vegetarians, just stop eating meat and eat a healthy and balanced diet.

Yes we are, actually. I immediately concede it's not an argument for eating meat, but yes we are on top of "a" food chain.

Man has no natural predators. Never really had them either. Sure, we'd get our asses mauled apart by a tiger in a one on one fight, but that does not make a tiger our predator, nor does it place the tiger higher in the food chain than us.

The only natural enemy man has is man. Not sabre tooth tigers, mammoths or sharks.

Man is an omnivirous top predator.

^^
Yes but technically we're not in a food chain anymore. We're in a food link.

If you want to get REALLY technical, food web would be the correct phrase.

I was just pointing out Rukas' biology mistake.

Well it wasn't about being technical, poor choice of words. The biology of the food chain/web no longer applies to the way we eat meat. So it shouldn't be brought into this discussion at all.
In this discussion Rukas is right in saying we're not on top of the food chain, since there's nothing to be on top of.
