I listen to so much music from so many genres that it's inevitable. I never bought into that music snobbery bullshit... who is anyone to judge anyone else based on music? I don't understand it at all.
I have playlists that go from Britney to Prince to Frank Zappa to Steve Vai to Jaco Pastorius to Joni Mitchell to Lady Gaga to Nine Inch Nails. If some people can't fathom how I can appreciate bubblegum pop as well as experimental progressive jazz, that's their problem.
And I do like Rick Springfield. I think he is the unheralded master of power-pop. Pretty much all of his albums are amazing (past the two teen albums he did in the 70s where the label were trying to make him into the next David Cassidy). I bought his autobiography (great read) and I might go see him live later in the year.
I've also been playing the new Britney album non-stop alongside this piece of pure genius from Swedish-Canadian funk singer Amalia's recent debut album:
That Elliott Smith track is awesome. I don't have much critique on it other than that I like it. It's relaxing, something I could play whilst writing. I've been writing a lot more recently and only certain music can be played whilst I write without being overbearing and taking too much of my attention away.
