I think the whole thing is wild, but in my culture the way we respond to police is very different. I would have just gotten out of the car and shown my ID and then be on my way when they cleared me. But I know in the US the opposite is true, people take sport in "owning" police officers. I've always wondered how police are supposed to function effectively if they can't control check their hunches and suspicions. I don't understand why people refuse to identify themselves. If she was not an illegal immigrant and did not possess illegal drugs and otherwise had nothing to fear, what could they do once she exited the car? Just follow their instructions and let them figure out what they are trying to figure out and then you can move along.
