American Beauty .
yeah I liked this. Definately provokes thought about issues of love. I also liked the twist (dont want to spoil it) but not in a gay way :p

Also check out a time to kill. That was a good movie. Samuel.L.Jackson stars in it as a a black guy in the deep south who kills a bunch of KKK dicks for raping his dis-abled daughter. Then a white guy takes up his case.

^^in Australia, the Liberal party are the conservative right-wingers.
They are anything but "liberal" in theoretical terms though. Their policies are a contradiction to their name.

The liberal left wing parties we have here are probably the Democrats and Greens.

Scarface? Deep? Wise? Please. Thats one of my favorite movies but theres no way it fits in this catagory.
I hate to disagree, argue, or freepost again - but maybe I didn't explain myself as to why I thought this a movie that qualifies in the catagories below

I only want movies that are wise, or promote wisdom and knowledge.
Tony is a wise character. I was mainly thinking about the Principles behind his actions, choices, and moves he makes, that make you want to think about what is driving him.

If this isn't what you are looking for then I apologize.

requiem for a dream: the dangers of addiction; whether it be heroin, tv, diet pills, or food.

breakfast club: personality development through communication.

Ill start with a little known movie called Equalibrium, about a future society that restricts human emotion and feeling. Its got a lot of current political undertones, as well as sets right out of Hitler's wet dream. Plus its got some awsome action and fight scenes. Check it out if you can, I watched it last year while in Europe and just bought it on DVD last week.
Just watched this, and i gotta say its pretty good.
A real good movie with Christian Bale is The Machinist. Dude lost 63lbs for the role in this film...

Usual Suspects for sure, its really one of the very best. Also I can't agree even more with Rukas on Equilibrium, damn that movie was too beautiful to be true. Christian Bale just opened up everyone in that movie and this movie also shows how a society is bound to be one day if we don't start getting the knowledge needed in order to prevent these type of things. I have two more movies but they're French but you can't get better than this ever:

La Haine
Ma 6-T Va Craquer

Both movies reflect reality in France and how that society is doomed for any young black or arab male. These movies shook the whole movie industry in France, even to a point that Ma 6-Y Va Craquer was banned from France even though this movie is French. As far as La Haine goes, I was like what!?!?!??! at the end of the movie. Very strong message and moral in this superb movie. BTW you probably know the actor if you ever saw Ocean's Twelve, it's the French dude that stole the statue. His name is Vincent Cassel, one of the greatest French actors in the same league as Jean Reno and Gerard Depardieu if you know French movies.

Peace

Home room great movie man :thumb:

The aftermath of a high school shooting leaves Deanna Cartwright (Erika Christensen) seriously wounded and nine others dead, including the perpetrator. Det. Martin Van Zandt (Victor Garber) is assigned the unenviable task of investigating the crime and finding someone to hold responsible. His attention settles on Alicia Browning (Busy Philipps), a darkly troubled outsider who, as the only person present throughout the entire incident, is both the key witness and a possible suspect. Further complicating her isolated existence, Alicia's high school principal compels her to pay a reluctant visit on the still-hospitalized Deanna. Privileged and popular, Deanna differs dramatically from the alienated Alicia. Yet, beneath an upbeat appearance, she is struggling desperately with the emotional and physical scars left by the attack. Over the next few days, united by nothing more than their common suffering, the two young women form an unlikely friendship to cope with the tragic events that threaten to overwhelm them

Mississippi Burning

It's tagline is, '1964. When America was at war with itself.'

It has it's basic plot of Civil Rights workers being killed but it's really about racism & people's attitudes towards each other - government, KKK, those who grow up around racists etc.

It was very controversial at the time & nobody in America would touch it.

I think it ended up requiring British funding to get it made, such was the paranoia of American film studios of touching such a subject.

No twists, not much action, just characters, emotions & an attempt at portraying the reality of the hatred in America.

I thought it would be a certain 'leg shuffle' that made this film 'good' lol.

But yeah, the story's is OK, I don't think it is anything too specila but I do like how it shows the system can be manipulated - in this case by overt sexuality.

"Maria Full of Grace" about the stuggles of the drug trade - women that carry drugs in their stomaches (mules) have to ingest bags of drugs and transport them to new york
its sad, and shows the perspective of the lower class, stuggling class in a different country

"Minority Report" Questions free will, if we are able to prevent the crime before it ocurs should we do it? even if its only a high probability it would occur (think about this in the context of how the USA operates, preventative measures, etc etc.)

i'll add more later gotta jet
