/\ don't give me that bullshit. you have no argument so you're trying to make it seem like I'm closed minded simply because you cannot refute my points, and everytime you try you fail miserably.
how do i argue "i like lily allens music "?

this isnt about Brittney Vs Lilly. Im not debating that shit. I just think Lily isn't "shit". Her music is good.

her lyrics are witty, and ive grown to like that chav accent. it's different because everyone put's on an american accent and it's annoying.

just because YOU don't like her you think that no one else should. get the fuck outta here.

I don't think it's right to make a comparison at all. I guess I respect Britney as an entertainer but not as a musician, since she's not one. Her albums are: [Songwriters] + [Producers] featuring Britney Spears. Kind of a no-brainer comment since everyone knows most contemporary pop comes from an assembly line. Casey said it himself, Britney is part of the "throwaway pop" genre. I don't think Britney deserves artistic praise for her music but as far as bubblegum pop entertainers go she's the "queen" (referring to her dancing, keeping up a bullshit public persona etc.). Lily Allen may make pop music but it's not assembly line pop. That doesn't mean Britney's music is automatically garbage and that Lily's music is good but they're different types of artists. As a musician though Lily takes the cake. I think she wins by default since Britney's input in her music is so incredibly little. Who is the most significant "culture" wise? Britney, without a single doubt.

Lily Allen does get by because of her "edgy yet fun" persona (what artist doesn't achieve a significant portion of their success through image/hype though?) but as far as a high school drop-out goes she actually writes good lyrics sometimes. I think "The Fear" is one of the best pop songs I've heard in a long time and it's one of the better songs currently in rotation. Only her, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry make pop music that I feel has any artistic value, at least in regards to the name on the record. As far as songwriting/production Britney might have some great stuff though. Personally I can't stomach any of it.

Going to post the lyrics to "The Fear". It's a simple song, she makes comments about disliking consumerism and superficial values but still being caught up in them. Doesn't bring anything new to the table content-wise but there are a couple of great lines in there in my opinion. And it feels genuine, which goes a long way. The fact that her lyrics are very straight-forward and simple might seem like a weakness but it's actually her strength. If if true that she's putting on a semi-fake persona I think it's more a reflection of her own insecurities than being a pretentious twat. Given the fact that she's admitted to making comments about other female artists because she was jealous of their looks it's probably true. And when she says "I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore / I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore" I believe her.

I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don’t care about clever I don’t care about funny
I want loads of clothes and i want fuckloads of diamonds
I heard people die while they are trying to find them

And i’ll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
Cuz everyone knows that’s how you get famous
I’ll look at the sun and I’ll look in the mirror
I’m on the right track yeah I’m on to a winner

[Chorus]
I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cuz I’m being taken over by The Fear

Life’s about film stars and less about mothers
It’s all about fast cars concussing each other
But it doesn’t matter cause I’m packing plastic
and that’s what makes my life so fucking fantastic

And I am a weapon of massive consumption
And its not my fault it’s how I’m programmed to function
I’ll look at the sun and I’ll look in the mirror
I’m on the right track yeah we're on to a winner

Chorus
I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cuz I’m being taken over by The Fear

[Bridge]
Forget about guns and forget ammunition
Cause I’m killing them all on my own little mission
Now I’m not a saint but I’m not a sinner
Now everything's cool as long as I’m gettin thinner

[Chorus]
I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cause I’m being taken over by fear

bottom line between the comparison between Britney and Lily Allen.

Britney is a performer, and possibly a good one, probably better in her early days, but her lip-syncing goes nowhere now, and the choreography on stage is all rehearsed, there is nothing original about Britney Spears music anymore, it's like britney has become a puppet of the record industry

Lily Allen on the other hand is more down to earth as a person and an artist, she doesn't choeograph, she doesn't need to use bad publicity to promote her music, and all all her lyrics are her own

lady gaga, chronic mentioned, plays piano, what does britney play or write herself?

i leave you with a great live performance from an artist who writes and plays her own music:

Lily's lyrics are original, that's why i like her
