I emailed prince's label (which was surprisingly difficult to find) about two weeks ago and basically asked if amaru had asked them to sample the song pop life, and if not, would they have allowed the sample to clear, and this is what they said.

Thank you for your question. I contacted front office and was told that they have not recieved any requests to sample 'Pop Life' from Amaru. Although the final OK is through Prince, I was told that Prince has allowed Tupac to sample him in the past, so I cannot see why there would be any problems.
and then goes on to say some non-tupac related things.
I just think its fucked up that Amaru doesn't even bother to get a sample cleared. it's one thing if they are asking a rediculous amount to clear it, but to not even try, it's just fucked up, especially since this song is an interpolation of pop life.
and i bet it's the same case with other songs that had samples that were changed
