I emailed prince's label (which was surprisingly difficult to find) about two weeks ago and basically asked if amaru had asked them to sample the song pop life, and if not, would they have allowed the sample to clear, and this is what they said.

Dear Subscriber

Thank you for your question. I contacted front office and was told that they have not recieved any requests to sample 'Pop Life' from Amaru. Although the final OK is through Prince, I was told that Prince has allowed Tupac to sample him in the past, so I cannot see why there would be any problems.

and then goes on to say some non-tupac related things.

I just think its fucked up that Amaru doesn't even bother to get a sample cleared. it's one thing if they are asking a rediculous amount to clear it, but to not even try, it's just fucked up, especially since this song is an interpolation of pop life.

and i bet it's the same case with other songs that had samples that were changed

Not trying to be a smartass, but it's "Pac's Life" not "Pop's Life".

After reading the first post again, I'm questioning its legitimacy. Here is what I assume to be the cut-and-pasted portion from the e-mail sent from Prince's representatives:

There are just too many mistakes here to make it seem like it was written by anyone representing a major artist. No comma or colon after "Subsciber," "received" was spelled incorrectly, the song title was punctuated incorrectly (should use quotation marks instead of apostrophes). While I don't expect people answering simple questions to proofread outgoing e-mails over and over again, I just find it odd that this e-mail supposedly came from Prince's people yet has so many errors for such a short e-mail, since usually they don't hire idiots with no G.E.D. to do that job. Unless it's Amaru.

Probably fake, but I believe that Amaru would not have contacted Prince! Like why not just blend the verse from Dumpin and Don't Sleep together on the same track?? That would sound boss!

Who did you email? NPGMC, or Paisley Park Studios? I'm questioning your legitimacy with this, and it won't take me long to confirm it.

Especially since Prince doesn't HAVE a label currently - he does one off pressing & distribution deals with majors through his own company, but he shut down his company around 5 months ago due to a legal situation. Provide me with more evidence, and tell me exactly who you spoke to and I'll dig deeper.
