On the forum, maybe not. And I'm not even talking about people on this forum. But people use it often and it is accepted by most.Thats the thing, we don't do that.
Like I said, "coon" is more of a Southern thing, and even then, a lot don't use it. It's like "sambo" as well. It's old Southern words that still exist but you don't hear much about it.coon was never big around here. i don't know anyone who uses it in a a humorous context. i want to side with coonie but i'm just not comfortable using that word at all. i'm fine with nigga. coon? naw.
Not everyone's humor isn't like yours.

Ahhhh....got me!Apparently not everyone's grammar isn't like yours either![]()
It's no worse than using the word "gipped" (or Gyped?) when referring to being screwed over in something.

I've never even heard of that term? :S
I really dislike that word personally, but I'm not one of those people who think ppl who aren't black shouldn't say it. Personally (just my opinion) I feel like "lead by example" if you don't want other people using the word, why are you using the word? (just talking in second person here, not about anyone specifically). Either the word is offensive or it isn't, can't go both ways. I won't say it b/c I don't like it. But I do ask both blk ppl as well as other ppl to use another word if they're in a conversation with me. Usually non-blk ppl apologize and switch the word to something else, but blk ppl seem to become angrier and angrier at me for being offended by the word.
That being said, i'm mostly fine with casual racism. I was jim crowed out of my bathroom in my apartment the other day by my roommate. He literally put up a sign on the bathroom that said something along the lines of "by public decree, this bathroom declared for Whites Only" or something lol. But casual racism is only casual if the people involved know better and think the taboo to be silly.
If Coonie is spreading this word to a place where it's not even heard of, then you're just spreading ignorance around. And in my humble opinion, that's awful. Unless you're also offering explanations as to why the word is considered offensive and you have some secret plan of how to use it to combat racism?
Just the word "coon" alone sounds funny to me. And I would think so to others as well. You have to realize it was first used as a shortened form of "raccoon." Some people thought black people were like raccoons, stealing shit and running around at night. That's how it came to be.
I use it in a lot of different tenses with friends and so do they. But to say "coon" shouldn't be said, even in a non-racist tense, is like saying the word "gay" should be banned, despite it being used to mean something completely different some time ago. If you can condone both uses of the word "gay" then you can condone both use of the word coon.
I'm not implying or outright saying that "I'm right" in using these words, but we all do something very similar to what I'm catching some flak from some of you for.
And gypped was a word that was commonly used in elementary and middle school. It usually referred to trades of Pokemon cards or anything like that. Today it may be more prevalent as "Jewed."
"You Jewed me on that deal."
If you haven't heard of that use before and still think you do nothing of this sort, go off yourself.
Do people in America honestly use the word nigga as a normal part of their vocabulary? That is so embarassing
I was speaking to no one in particular. But I use "coon" the same way I use memes from internet. With close friends. When other people hear me say it, they use it too. I don't tell them "hey, start saying 'coon' or I'm not your friend."
