not all americans of course.
Even these so called "heads" want to listen to rappers from /mainstream/underoung/southern/east/west. etc
but no ones checking out music on a global scale. WHY?. its it cause others countrys dont have gimmicky corperate tactics to promote there music to a more commercial fan base. even people that consider themselves 'open to all music arnt going out of there way to sample differnt flavours of hip hop and creativty from around the world.

Would you agree that other countrys have more of a hip hop culture, also that isnt as based around violence and repetative commericial music?

And are there artists in non american countrys that appreciate hip hop even more than alot of american aritsts do, by making hip hop for more of a love of it than there next pay cheque?

and is the source right saying "it might not be long before the true essance of hip hop will be found of our shores"

and why is there people from non american countrys that only listen to US rap
just theories/questions. what do you think?

I would agree with this. For a non-American act to be semi-successful making Hip Hop music they have to be original, for an American act all they have to do is follow the trend.

I can't remember who it was but it was someone respected like KRS or the Jungle Brothers - or somebody like that - that said that countries outwith America have a better understanding of Hip Hop history & the culture. They said - in no way dissing Americans - that Americans are just kind of lazy with it & take it for granted, while others appreciate the culture to the full.

As for people just listening to American acts, I think that in Britain, the accents put a lot of people off whereas French rap & such suffers because of the language barrier.

On a domestic level, the accent may just not sound as complimentary to the music as an American accent. What people are used to is also an issue, if you only ever really heard an American accent on a track, it seems alien when a London accent is heard. That said, I think areas only need one artist to blow up - & I mean, on a worldwide scale - & the rest can follow.

As for abroad, I think French, Germans etc. that are actually into Hip Hop don't mind the accent that much. The Americans, however, are arrogant.

The language barrier is quite self-explanatory, although even with the little French I understand, I have, now & again, been able to appreciate the beat used by & flow of a French rapper.

I just hope this section in the street hop forum will stay and get all ppl into other types of hip hop than American hip hop. There is no doubt about it American hip hop appeals to us the most but it's really nice to hear some other :thumb: shit. :)

Name some good non-American rap. <<<im actually asking not being a dick.

I dunno if that was aimed at me but if so I say you need to open up.

It is not about good it is about opening up if you are going 2 ignore the rest of the world than that's cool but don't start saying rap sucks these days and the culture is dying. :o

Maybe it's just me but I can go to the recordstore and buy an album of a rapper or a rap group I have never heard of and enjoy that album just as much and sometimes even more than the albums of other artists I already know. Goin to the recordstore and buy something unknown keeps my playlist and my ears/mind fresh and that is exactly what I am looking for.

The same I do with African Hip Hop! I check for African hip hop on the net and hear a total different type of hip hop than the shit I hear from let's say Meth, Krs One, Rakim, Eminem and Talib Kweli ya know what I am saying?

IF you wanna hear different things you should check foreign hip hop to keep ya list fresh :thumb:

Although there is some good UK hip-hop, I only get to hear it as I am from the UK. 1 of the reasons is that UK hip-hop is only just now getting a bit of money thrown at it. The bigger labels are getting involved and now better videos are being made and more promotion given, although it's still only national.
Another of the reasons is that the US hip-hop market is huge, and a lot of the acts don't ever get heard over here in the UK. With such a large choice domestically who is gonna hear international rap.

1 of my favourite hip-hop acts is Roots Manuva, he is more into the music than the image. And he tries to be original with his beats, flow and lyrics. His voice and flow reminds me a little of Rakims, but I'll probably get flamed for that comment. He also is more likely to be rocking prada than hoodies or Sean John, he doesn't need to buy into the image.

I'm gonna upload his track for people to listen to and say what they think.

Roots Manuva - collossal Insight

It's pretty diverse, but I like it.

Lyrics follow. (Helps with the accent)

Roots Manuva - Collossal Insight

Collossal Insight invites the soul
The study of the good book
Collossal Insight Invites the soul
The study of the good book

Gracious Lord my Mega almighty
I know I been slightly
Outta your path
Feeling the cold draught
Of the bleak winter
Splinters in my soul
I'm out of control
And I know
That I should cut down this drinking
Too many late nights and wayward thinking
Compelling a man to plan to shenanigans
They're boying me out I got to be the man again

Cos I didn't rhyme to get me rich
But I'm a scally
Two twos you'll find a switch
Hurt and pain made me
Nothing came to save me
I walk with disaster
Prefer to be plastered
Time's my master
Don't ask me for Jack turd
All I own is my balls and my word
Nobody heard of me
Cos I'm a new man
I've got this new plan
To get these new grands

Collossal Insight invites the soul
The study of the good book
Collossal Insight Invites the soul
The study of the good book

People call my name
Like it's kind sort of game
Like I ain't got no fame
Like I'm just the same type
Shouting out vain lights
Move your lurgy
I'm far too nervy
Observing this world
Who the weirdo
What the how the
Media whores keep shovelling powder
It's nothing to be proud of
But stuff goes on
Perceptions change
Wrong's right and right's wrong
Hoop the hoopla-ing
Devil keep snarling
Buy it buy it sell it sell it
This could well be my last LP
I've had a good run
I've made a few G's
I've had a bag of fun
I've smoked a few trees
Now I wanna rest my knobbly knees
All in all I've been feeling the pinch
And those bourgeois blacks have been far from convinced

But I don't give a damn about UK rap
I'm a UK black
Making UK tracks
And I've got love for every one of those scenes
And those pigeon holes were never nothing to hold me

Collossal Insight invites the soul
The study of the good book
Collossal Insight Invites the soul
The study of the good book

Apologies for any mistakes. I typed it up. Not sure I got the chorus right.

I don't really know any americans but as a collectave they seem quite ignorant of other countries hip-hop. There is definatle a passion for hip-hop world wide and many artist spitting real stuff.

Roots Manuva is one I like too, by the way.

Zero, WTF are you talking about?

Lmao. Alba is the Scots Gaelic name for Scotland. Rangers on the other hand are a Saxon club. By using the name Alba you were asserting your Celtic roots ;) It was a bad attempt at a joke forget it :p

I though that might be your twisted point.

Rangers are Glaswegian first, Scottish second, British third & so on...despite what some of my fellow fans may think...

you have to understand that hip hop is still young, its still growing. i mean, look at its history, you start out with ny in the 80's, west in the 90's, now its expanding into the south and so on. you can't just expect for something to take off in a world wide scale so quickly, its progresssion. look at how long it took for a white rapper to be embraced and respected in the hip hop community. also i completely disagree when you say that other countries have a better hip hop culture because hip hop started in the streets of ghettos within the US. its an expression of blacks and latinos that started this hip hop movement. that is fundamentally what hip hop is, a voice for those who find themselves in the ghetto streets of the US. that's not to say that it cannot be embraced by a universal audience. take for example mexican music (use mariachi, corridos, rancheras etc. for specific example), the world can love mexican music but a different country cannot have a better mexican music culture than mexico because its a mexican expression. there can be different variations of hip hop but its gonna take a while before hip hop grows to that level. those are my thoughts at least, if i had more time id make my opinions more clear but that's the gist of it.

good points^, but i was mainly talkin about in non american countrys, thta corperate labels havnt pushed in takin creative control of music yet.

i was hopin to lure some " americans" into the thread to be open to download some music.
