What do you guys make of this?

Some speculate that it could be a CM phone, especially because it says "free" where the carrier is usually listed on the lock screen, so it could be hinting at it being an unlocked phone.

On another note, I think I can find a buyer for my TouchPad that would net me close to enough to get the new Nexus 7. The one thing that I am worried about is the size of the N7. I guess I could always try it out in a store when I'm back in the States, but I'm curious as to how much smaller the screen really is compared to my 9.7" (10 inch, we'll say) Touchpad.

I'm curious as to how much of a hit I will take in that 3 inch shrinking. I have several magazine subscriptions through Zinio and I love reading them on my tablet. But I'm curious as to how much of a loss of space 3 inches will be and how bad will I feel it when reading.

The thing is, there is nothing else that big in that $200-250 price range, as my TP, so if that is going to be an issue, I may just hang on to it and skip the N7 too.

I think someone in my class has one, but I've never asked to use it.

That nemesis thing is interesting. I probably wouldn't buy it, but very interesting nevertheless, if it comes from Cyanogen.

I woudn't hurry so much with selling your TouchPad because it's likely to take a while for the new N7 to become available. The N7 is significantly smaller, but you get used to the screen size fast and personally to me 7-8 inch is the perfect size for a tablet. The resolution is big, so you feel like the screen is bigger than that and at the same time the device is very travel-friendly. It's also more convenient to type with after you get used to writing in vertical mode - it's perfect for 2 thumbs and I usually use my tablet for Facebook messaging, it's that comfortable to me. It feels like it's the form factor allowing to do most things the fastest and in the most convenient way - its handling is better than on a smartphone while it's not a problem to have it with me, and it's easy to carry around.
I never liked the 10 inch format mainly because it seems to be too big and handling on those tablets is far inferior. The only positive is that the screen is bigger, but unless you use both, the 7 incher is not going to feel too small.

I think this best describes the differences, and shows them both together so you can get a feel of the size. If you want my opinion, the guy shares it as well at 7:10 - exactly my thoughts too:

Yeah, that did seem to help a bit. It seems the 10 is more media oriented, which is not really what I'm looking for. I can watch movies and Netflix just fine on my computer. I would need it just for reading text, like the Kindle app or Zinio magazines or PDFs of books and PowerPoints. If I did watch videos on it, it may be lecture videos, which is more auditory than visual (which would be text, too).

Isn't this new Nexus due out by the end of August, according to some rumors?

The price can not be beat. I'll say that. I think I may be sold on it, now. I don't want the Mini anymore.

You check out the video I posted? There's video of the new N7 too.

^ Yeah I did. It was hard to tell much from it, other than that it doesn't look any thinner than the first gen N7. I guess it's not going to make the first N7 outdated, but judging by the specs it's a good update. The design.. I guess I liked the first gen N7 just a tiny bit more. Paradoxically I liked the fact that it didn't have any rear camera too. I don't like unnecessary features and I can't imagine taking pictures with a tablet. I saw people taking pictures with their Ipads in the US though, so I guess they wanted to please them too.

Yeah, tablet picture taking is really weird. It's there, though, so that's good. When video calling it could be useful. Show a pan around the room or something.

It's not that big of a useless part. For me, bluetooth on a tablet is useless. For others, they use a mouse or keyboard or something. So it has to entertain everyone. It's nothing extravagant, though.

When I had the Xoom 2 I never once used the back camera, in 8 months of ownership. So it makes no difference to me. But I know other people that are very happy that the new N7 has a back camera.

I'm thinking of buying my mom a tablet. Should I go for the ipad mini or wait for the Nexus 7?

I read the Retina Mini wasn't due out until next year, but now that these 7.2 rumblings are getting louder, I'm starting to hear more and more about the Retina Mini coming out "Q4 of this year."

she wouldn't be able to tell the difference. All she does is stream bosnian tv channels and I tested them out on both retina display and the mini and couldn't see the difference (mainly cause the channels aren't HD).

For TV and movies the Nexus 7 is better because of its aspect ratio, unless Bosnian TV streams are still in 4:3 :p
It's also cheaper and better. At least wait until the announcement to find out the official release date, I heard it should be out very soon though.

I'd say it's worth the wait. Especially since it's only a week then.

I'd get it myself, but I'm still very satisfied with last year's model. It'll easily last me another year, I hope.
