Who is the nation’s “Most Ridiculous Redknapp”?
Is it Louise, the one who finds Tim Lovejoy funny? Is it Jamie, the one who superglues his trousers to the arms of his chair? Or is it Harry, the one who thinks Liverpool fans have been monumentally ungrateful to the benign benefactor that is Tom Hicks?
“In all of this, I have utmost sympathy for the Reds’ owners, George Gillett and Tom Hicks,” wrote Redknapp this morning,
in his column in Merseyside’s favourite paper. “All they seem to have done is plough a fortune into the place and they stand to lose a fortune when they sell it. But, for all that, all they get is grief week-in, week-out. It’s not often you’ll hear a manager stick up for a chairman or chairmen but I’d love to know what the two Americans have done that is so wrong.”
Liverpool fans, who have seen their club taken to the brink of administration under the Americans, will no doubt tell Harry exactly what “they have done that is so wrong” when they travel to White Hart Lane next month. And they’ll also be remarkably keen that Rafa Benitez – not mentioned, but clearly blamed by Redknapp – has his own say point when Spurs travel to Inter next week.
Perhaps we should give Harry the benefit of the doubt though. After all, if anyone’s the expert on football clubs and administration…
