11/12 Premier League thread

That 'knock it into the box from the wing' tactic was really getting to me. Didn't work all game. Finally Valencia decided to just take a damn shot and that was it.

Brilliant day of football for Arsenal & United fans.

I loved seeing City lose today, those fans had their hopes sky high only a few weeks ago. What a goal by Arteta! Shame that Arsenal had so many other chances to score and they didn't take them.

I watched F1 instead of the United/Everton game. 4-4?

City still have to play Wolves later today but that fact is United screwed up big time today. Entertainment wise, all is looking too perfect for the tie at the Etihad.

Jelavic ripping it up for Everton. Quite a steal for them at 2M - then again Rangers really needed to sell seeing their current financial situation. Funny thing about Jelavic, when he was back at Hajduk Split, he was never rated as anything good. He was sold to Belgium under 'shady' conditions, but looks like he really came around one he got to Austria. Hopefully, Bilic finds a way to keep up his current form for the Euros. We're in dire need of a strong forward that can put it in the net, since Dudu never returned to his old self after that cock-eyed fuck destroyed his leg.

How is Eduardo doing at Shaktar?

Thug Style..... (I reckon you need a name change ;) )

What do you think about Villa to go down? My dad is a Villa fan, and suggested it a few weeks back, I didn't believe it, but looking at their points total and remaining fixtures, plus their injury list, I am starting to think they will.....

I hate my username :( I wanted to change it the first year I made it.

Well, I think Aston Villa will just about stay up, but they probably have the weakest squad out of all the teams down the bottom. They're playing youth team players in relegation battles. Bent is missing and they have the god awful Agbonlahor, Sandeep probably knows more though about his side.. I think Blackburn and Bolton will go down.. I want Wigan to survive because I like the chairman and Martinez.

Imagine if Bolton go down, they have over 5 first team players with contracts running out in the summer, they will make a huge loss and probably not come back up.

Well Villa were expected to lose against Man United so we could've tried something different and experimented but McLeish went and put Heskey on up front. Slow, predictable and nothing that United haven't seen and dealt with before. I would've suggested to put Delfouneso on (a player who sadly does not get the chance he deserves and has been sent on loan once or twice since MON left). Having said that, he stuck with a 4-5-1 against United and Weimann was up there on his own. Agbonlahor has been off form for pretty much the whole season and he gets to wear the captain's armband? I don't see the logic in that. I would say the captaincy should've gone to Shay Given or Richard Dunne.

Then on Tuesday night McLeish played a 3-4-3 formation with Stephen Warnock on the left wing, deciding to experiment in a must win game.

With Bent, Dunne, Collins out, N'Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Hutton being awful this season and McLeish's over-reliance on Heskey (sometimes even playing him in midfield or out on the wing) it doesn't look good and the defensive mentality explains why we've dropped so many points. When Villa have gone 1-0 up they tend to sit back and go defensive. I hate that. Our problem for years has been that we are unable to finish teams off.

McLeish left Albrighton and Clarke out for a number of games earlier in the season which I seriously questioned as they were two of our best players last season and were doing okay this season. The best thing that happened to Villa this year was Robbie Keane; and Shay Given has been really good; Gary Gardner has been making good progress too.

Villa have a real chance of staying up if Spurs can beat Blackburn and Bolton, and if Villa can win one more game.

Dunne is better when he's aggressive because he becomes solid at the back. i do think that he struggles with pressure and some games with high-stakes and especially when he tries to be delicate (i.e. giving the ball away).

Villa are known for relying on their youth as that has been the case for like half a decade now. Even though I encourage and enjoy seeing the youth players getting a chance in the first team and eventually establishing themselves, I think the priority is to strengthen the first team with players that can gel together well, be solid at the back, keep possession and, in attack score some goals and finish teams off. There is a lot of work that needs to be done at the club. The youth players can still force their way in with some competition.

It seems as though we've taken two or three steps forward and since McLeish like five steps back.

Anyway, derby day today and form isn't everything. I just hope we can steal a win. I don't really care how (although i'd rather we deserve it from the performance).
