A recent update by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has revealed a number of SEGA titles coming to Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console. The classic games include all of the following:

Ecco the Dolphin
Altered Beast
Toe Jam & Earl
Golden Axe
Columns
Sonic the Hedgehog
Ristar

Readers can verify this information for themselves by going to ESRB's official website and doing a search by platform for Wii games.

The fact that these classic games show up for Wii on ESRB's website is a good sign because publishers have to submit their games for the organization's approval prior to their release -- hence, the ESRB would not just create a list like this out of thin air.

Will these titles and more be debuted at Nintendo's Wii event this Thursday? We'll keep you posted.

Yes, baby.

$250, Nov. 19.

The Wii will be available in in one color: White.

There will be 4 million units shipped at launchworldwide, with the majority dropping in the USA. Games are expected to cost $50.

The Wii will come bundled with Nintendo Sports (Wii Tennis, Wii Golf, Wii Baseball, Wii Bowling, Wii Boxing), all the needed cables, the sensor bar, and "one Wii remote and one nunchuk controller"

Legend of Zelda and Excitetruck will be available at launch. (The Zelda release seems to me to be a nod to the hardcore gamers... Nintendo making sure they aren't launching with just novelty titles.)

Thirty titles are expected at launch.

Wii users will be able to download 30 classic Nintendo games at launch (for a price) and ten titles a month are expected to come out.

Because it wouldn't be Nintendo if it wasn't a little bit weird, the Wii will also feature:

"The Mii Channel," which is, according Fils-Aime: "A digital 3D caricature of you, your friends, your family," that you can use as avatars in Wii games

A digitial-photo viewer that also plays video clips
"News and weather channels"
Internet browsing through Opera

So happy.

ADVERTISEMENT You know that the machine is on the way, but Nintendo have just let some more information out about the Wii interface. So, without further ado, Nintendo's press bods sum it up in one handy press release...

The Wii™ console will revolutionize how people play games. But more importantly, it will entice new players into the world of video games by offering a variety of entertainment, information and communication Channels that add value to the console and make it a device that the entire family can enjoy. The Wii Channel Menu will be the first screen shown on the television, as it easily integrates itself as part of people’s everyday lives.

Disc Channel: This channel allows users to play either Wii game discs or the entire library of Nintendo GameCube™ discs.

Mii™ Channel: Fun caricatured portraits created in this channel can be used as characters across a variety of Wii software. Portraits can be stored in a user’s Wii Remote and taken to a friend’s house to play on another Wii console. Each member of the family can have his or her Wii Remote personalized with a caricature.

Photo Channel: This channel allows users to take digital pictures stored on an SD memory card and display them on their television screens. Users also can manipulate the photos in a variety of fun and creative ways, such as zooming or creating mosaics, puzzles or slide shows. They can draw, add stamps, and copy and paste. They also can change the “mood” of photos by brightening them, converting them to monochrome, inverting the color or changing them to stark black and white. Users can even add an MP3 tune to their slide shows. It provides a fun and easy outlet for people to edit their digital pictures. Users also can send their pictures to other Wii consoles by attaching a photo to the Wii Message Board.

Forecast Channel: Users who have connected their Wii console to the Internet can access free local weather forecasts just a few seconds after turning on the Wii console. The WiiConnect24™ service automatically updates local weather information. Users can view forecasts for cities around the world on a 3-D globe.

News Channel: Users can access breaking news with the touch of a button. When connected to the Internet, the WiiConnect24 service automatically updates this free channel and organizes it in a variety of topical categories. Users can see where news is happening by viewing the location of news stories on a 3-D globe.

Wii Shop Channel: This is where users go to buy Wii Points or redeem them to download classic video games to the Virtual Console™. Users also can use points to download the Opera browser used in the Internet Channel.

Internet Channel: This channel dramatically changes the relationship between a user’s home, the television and the Internet. Users download the Opera browser with Wii Points. Then they can surf the Internet right from the comfort of their couch. They can do quick research while watching a television program (“What was that actor’s name again?”). Or book travel plans and shop during commercials. The service is compatible with Macromedia Flash.

Wii Message Board: Forget hand-scrawled notes tacked to the refrigerator door. Users can leave messages for other family members on a calendar-based message board. They also can use WiiConnect24 to send messages to people outside the home as well. Even better, people can trade photos and text messages with cell phone users. The service also allows for incoming messages targeted at software, such as a new map or weapon for a game. Games can constantly be updated, thereby extending their playability.

According to long-standing online Nintendo leak sources, the Wii will ship with a system updater disc when it goes on sale in the coming months. The content of the disc - referred to internally at Nintendo as Wii Start-Up Disc - is unknown, though it is speculated that a firmware update is required for the first batch of Wii hardware already waiting to go on sale.

As you will have read, Nintendo has recently dropped hints that it's well underway with Wii production a direct reaction to Sony's well-publicised issues with PlayStation 3 manufacture.

Further speculation outlines the Wii online beta test will take place between September 18 and October 23 and will seek to bottom out all bugs in the Wii's Virtual Console, WiiConnect24 and 'other' online elements. Some assert that this test essentially dates the console for an October 23 launch, though as you know, an online service can launch well after its host hardware.

It's also worth pointing out that Nintendo has already let slip the fact that any online offering the Wii will have over launch will be scant at best, with third-parties complaining that they are unable to provide 'Net play on day one.

At time of going to press, it is unknown if any Nintendo first-party titles will make use of the Wii's access to Nintendo's online services.

Rumor has it the Wii has a totally different style of gameplay. That's just a stupid rumor though, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

The new controller ensures that (some games, at least) will have a different style of gameplay. You couldn't have had a game like Wii Sports on the GameCube (or any other console, for that matter. Same goes for Excite Truck, Red Steel, the Wii version of Madden...I don't see how that's a "rumour". The gameplay on the Wii - unlike on the other consoles - will be different.

You use Wii Points to download things - games for the Virtual console, the Opera browser...other things.
