The last two Mario series games were Mario Sunshine on the GameCube and New Super Mario Bros on the DS. Sunshine got 95% on IGN and 94% on GameSpy and sold more than the highest selling Madden game did. New Super Mario Bros got Game of the Month in Game Informer and EGM, and it got Editor's Choice on IGN and Gamespot. Prior to that we have the truly revolutionary Super Mario 64, widely regarded as one of the best games of all time. Then we have Super Mario World on the SNES, hailed as the greatest videogame of all time upon its release. Need I go on?

That's not to mention the ground-breaking and genre-spawning Mario Kart games and the Super Smash Bros. series.

So yeah, where exactly are these piece of shit rehashes you were talking about, because I don't see them.
I 100% agree. :thumb:

note that i said, the previous two....sunshine sucked balls...that was nintendo's attempt at being innovative with a water tank....

ratings dont mean shit to me.... if you're stupid enough to buy a game just because "EGM gave it a 9", .....you're stupid... the range of scores for most games is almost always all over the place...madden 07 got a 9 in some mag, and 7 in XBM.....oh no...a 7....maybe it isnt good?

really, i dont feel like quoting what you said and rebutting it with some logic...but how can you say a system is gonna be good when it isnt even out yet? i think, looking at the controller, to its a given, that the controller sucks....maybe i'll change my mind when i actually hold one, but as of now, nintendo is just in this business to make money...arent they all?? well, they hype their shit, but never support it.... that GBA player looks real good, right??? what about that gamecube-gba connector...you get enogh fucking coconuts in animal crossing, yet?

your argument, like i said before, just gives me flashbacks of a couple years ago when the gaycube was coming out....

i want to know, what was the gaycube to you? was it a success, a flop, or it did pretty well?? and i dont mean you personally...if you enjoyed it...apparently you did.... but how did the public receive it?

nintendo's innovative design was having mini disks, then having them spin in the opposite direction, and have a carry handle in the back so you could look like a fairy with your little lunchbox....

" Well gee, I guess you'd have to find a console that has those games on it. I don't know if such a device exists. Try Google."

umm...i dunno how to spell it...it begins with an "x" um...x-cube? x-station?? mmm.... xbox??? yeah. thats it...and um...game station...game box...gamecast....oh, playstation 2...thee we go....

apart from the mario series and super smash brothers, all first party games of nintendo's have been shit the past couple of years, including zelda....well, i never really liked zelda..... but then again, my gaycube's been gathering dust and i've been playing the hell out of my xbox and ps2...

gamecube is a flop. it was not innovative if anything. it was just a successor to n64 because they needed a successor. and i never bought it cause i didnt see any real differences between the n64 and the gamecube a part from the game's physical form (from whatever you call them to mini cds).

#24
i dunno...media format?

you may not thing the gamecube was innovative, but nintendo was feeling a little self-proclaimed....they thought it was innovative..what with the gba connector, which like...5 games used...and the gameboy player, which really...defeated the purpose of a gameboy...remember those expansion ports onthe n64 as well as the gamecube?? i think N coulda cut down their production costs by not even having them there....they never used it..

Fuck off did Sunshine suck balls. It was probably the best game on the 'Cube. I imagine you picked it up, saw that Mario was on the cover, got worried that someone would think you were "omfg a fag playng on his GAYcube" and ran off to play some nice, manly gridiron game.

ratings dont mean shit to me.... if you're stupid enough to buy a game just because "EGM gave it a 9", .....you're stupid... the range of scores for most games is almost always all over the place...madden 07 got a 9 in some mag, and 7 in XBM.....oh no...a 7....maybe it isnt good?
My point was, it was well received. It has an average rating of 91% on GameRankings. If you thought it "sucked balls", you're in the minority. If you're stupid enough to ignore some of the greatest games ever made (namely the Mario series and the Zelda series) because they don't involve big, sweaty men chasing after a ball and shoving each other to the ground then you're an idiot.

but how can you say a system is gonna be good when it isnt even out yet?
The same way you can say you don't like the controller when you haven't tried it yet. The console looks good, the games look good...it's gonna be good.

i think, looking at the controller, to its a given, that the controller sucks....maybe i'll change my mind when i actually hold one
Don't even bother picking one up. If you don't appreciate Mario and Zelda, then Nintendo is not for you.

but as of now, nintendo is just in this business to make money...arent they all??
Some moreso than others. Who is it that made your X-Box 360 again? Oh that's right, Micro$oft.

well, they hype their shit, but never support it....
NES, SNES, N64, GameBoy, GBA, DS. Someone seems to have a very short memory.

your argument, like i said before, just gives me flashbacks of a couple years ago when the gaycube was coming out....i want to know, what was the gaycube to you? was it a success, a flop, or it did pretty well?? and i dont mean you personally...if you enjoyed it...apparently you did.... but how did the public receive it?
I rarely played my GameCube. It didn't sell well and it wasn't well supported. It still made a profit, and it still boasted some good games.

nintendo's innovative design was having mini disks, then having them spin in the opposite direction, and have a carry handle in the back so you could look like a fairy with your little lunchbox....
I don't think you understand "innovation". If you want to see some innovation from Nintendo, look at the N64 controller. Or play some of the games. Using a different proprietary format isn't innovation. Innovation was pioneering D-Pads, analogue sticks, shoulder buttons and rumble paks. Innovation was creating a dual-screen handheld console with a touch-sensitive display. Innovation is the motion sensitive control of the Wii, allowing games developers to create new, interesting ways for gamers to play. You'll know what innovation is in 5 years time when Sony and Microsoft copy it.

umm...i dunno how to spell it...it begins with an "x" um...x-cube? x-station?? mmm.... xbox??? yeah. thats it...and um...game station...game box...gamecast....oh, playstation 2...thee we go....
Dictionary.com has a nice new layout. Head on over there and look up "sarcasm".

You don't like Zelda either? Well then, the best games franchise is history must be shit. All hail games where you pick up a ball and run, trying to avoid people running in the opposite direction. Sounds like fun to me. Madden FTW!!

Final words.

I don't understand how you can talk about the Wii being the same as the GameCube when it's the only console that's actually different. Sony and Microsoft are just releasing their old consoles with shinier graphics. As per usual, Nintendo is the only one actually driving the games industry forward. Even if the Wii doesn't outsell the competition, I can guarantee you it will be more important to the gaming industry as a whole. The technology will eventually become standard and the genres it creates will become commonplace. Sony and Microsoft will strip out the technology, copy it, and continue to be successful on the back of people like you who buy the new, shinier versions of the same games you were playing 10 years ago. If it wasn't for Nintendo you'd be playing Madden with fucking joystick and two buttons.

You owe more to Nintendo than you're smart enough to realise.

" NES, SNES, N64, GameBoy, GBA, DS. Someone seems to have a very short memory."

im talking about the past 10 years...n64, garbage...they really pushed technology forward with the cartridge games they had..way to go...instead of being sharp edged, they're...smooth...

you may not like madden because you're prolly a european that is very sour about not being american...atleast that's what it seems like... because if you were american, you were throwing dirt on the most popular sport in america....if you are in fact european, then i believe soccer players sweat as much as football players....im sure enjoy watching men go head over heels for balls.....whatever your case may be, dont undermine the madden series...just cuz it hasnt sold on the Shitcube, but everywhere else, it doesnt deserve your hatred....

if madden is a bunch of sweaty men running around hitting each other over a ball, then im sure link is the epitome of a faggot where he runs around in tights with a sword....and plumbers saving princesses from the same mother fucking boss everytime because the stupid bitch doesnt know how to take care of herself....that's very innovative...how many ideas can you spin off that? water tank? cel animation?

the past two N systems have been disappointments, no matter how many pros they have....i dont see how the 64 pushed the industry forward, since someone was bound to figure out to throw in some analogs...what else did the 64 do??? nothing much

really, if you too think that the gaycube was a flop, then you reserve the right to shut the hell up since you have nothing to back up your arguments...M$ and sony fanboys have all the support in the world as both their systems not only outsold the gaycube this generation, but no one really gives a shit about the Wii this generation either....sure...all it takes is-what?-500,000 copies to make a game a bset seller? or is it a million? i dont know...but there are 500,000 douche bags that think pretending to be luke skywalker in the upcoming star wars game is "cool"....im not trying to insult your lifestyle, but many of us have gone past that dream..those were ambitions of a 3 year old....to be able to swing a sword like the Thundar the fucking barbarian....when we mature, we grow past that....some people, unfortunately, have not, and continue to try and relive their childhood...

one more thing..... i dont know if you know anything about sports, but teams do something called sign free agents and trade with other teams.... so that calls for a newer version every year as well as cetain players ratings changing...many drastically...

so when you call the madden series just a shinier version every year, understand that there might be someone out there does know about sports, and you're garbage rebuttal against someone that thinks links a fagmuffin in tights, is actually quite week....madden continues to sell....wind waker and mario sunshine are side by side in the bargain bin at wal mart...

i love this thread :D

tennis, if you dont like it, its fine. but see, nintendo has always been the one innovating. from their NES to the Wii. the only failure i see there is GameCube and even then some great games were released on it.

if dont appreciate, at least dont hate it on it. as illuminatile said, in 5 years xbox and ps will all have controllers like the Wii.

im not hating on the entire history of nintendo..dont get me wrong...i grew up with an nes, and then a 64...then snes emulators....i enjoyed those....then i realized the shortcomings of the 64 as i was being persuaded to buy a gaycube....

trust me, nintendo said, when they were promoting the gaycube, that it was going to be somethign new that they were going to try and alotta new stuff was supposed to come out for it....some new ideas did come out of it...but no one welcomed them....well, very few did... so did nintendo stop pushing that specific design?? it would make sense to do so...failure is part of the business...but dont leave your customers hanging...

see, they skipped out of online play...why? no developer thought that the gaycube audience would play online...the kiddie image? what else would you think about a system that has been known to sell only first party games like mario and zelda??? what could you possibly milk out of these franchises to put online?

the online community is thriving....even if the Wii has online enabled games, are they worth it?? will be be another Phantasy star 100??? correct me if im wrong, but one was not able to play my beloved madden online....im guessing the same goes for nba live and mlb and FIFA games as well...xbox live costs 50 bucks a year and you need broadband, but there's no lag.....ps2 player play for free...what are gaycube owners doing?? they left in the dark to play mario kart on an LAN??? think about it... why do you play? this comes back to my classification of a "serious" gamer and a "casual" gamer...

im a casual gamer...sure, i buy games like ninja gaiden...but not as often as i buy pick up and play games like racing games and sports games...i'll still classify my self as a casual gamer...one that plays maybe 10 hours a month...cuz i have other things to do.....this includes the summer as well..now that madden 07 is out, things have changed a bit, but...for the most part that stays the same...therefore, judging from the past events, a M$ or a Sony system is the system for me....maybe when the Wii goes down to 60 bucks after two years of sitting on the shelves, i might buy it....until then...i'll play madden on a better looking system with a name that sounds nothing like a 3 year old male's genitalia.....

and dont get me wrong...i enjoyed mario games pre-Sunshine.....if they come out with a mario 64-esque game, i might consider, but after first party titles, what else do i get that i cant get elsewhere?

as i have started to ignore nintendo the past 3 years, there hasnt been a mario football game has there?? believe there was a baseball, golf, tennis, and basketball game...but other than that?

awww, is that the best you got?? have you finally realized that sometimes being innovative isnt exactly the way to go, and maybe catering to the needs of the consumer is more important?? if the consumer wants pick up and play games or sports gamse and continue to make bullshit like mario and zelda remakes to make money, you're gonna actually lose money...

nintendo sells well in japan because the japanese like those type of games...their society is different than ours...yes....your society determines the type of games that sell....

see, now that i note your age, you're 4 years older than me....just like the boys at pojo.com that convinced me that the gaycube was gonna beat the xbox and be the best system ever..... looks like its happening again...

its good that you came back, and i hope you stay atleast another year or so...maybe till next spring, and then we can bring this thread back up 10 months later and then see who was right....

I would only buy the wii if there's a ghostbusters game for it. You zap slimer with the wiimote and put him in the trap. I aint fraid of no ghosts.

Luckily, not everyone is like you. And considering Mario and Zelda outsell Madden, I think Nintendo are doing something right.

You shouldn't pay attention to 21 year olds who like Yu-Gi-Oh.

buddy, this was 5 years ago when yu gi oh didnt even hit the states....whether they like pokemon, digimon, DBZ, or anime, they prolly grew up to be a carbon copy of you....so there is no difference...

i dont visit this board, by the way, anymore...i kinda grew out of kiddie games.....

" Luckily, not everyone is like you. And considering Mario and Zelda outsell Madden, I think Nintendo are doing something right."

considering that japs and europeans dont play american football, madden would sell less than zelda and mario....

show me, also, where you got this info from....a sales chart would be nice of the total sales of each up to date..

japs and euros also don't fight monsters in dungeons... if the game is fun, they will buy it.
i have never played grid-iron and rarely play basketball, yet i enjoy both madden and nba live...

can you agree that the japanese and the americans and the europeans, each have their own taste for games??? i rarely hear anyone talk about the new zelda....yet the new madden was hyped to all hell....im sure it'll be the same for nba live....wait for another shooter to be hyped be a big game mag...evryone will be talking about it...hype does not mean it will be on the cover...hype means it will be talked about months before release, and then months afterwards as well....

You can look it up on Wikipedia, they had a list on there. Not 100%, but no figures will be.

You can't seriously doubt that MARIO outsells Madden, can you?

EA boast that the Madden franchise, in its 16-or-so years has sold 40 million games. That's about the same as Super Mario Bros sold back in '85 on the NES. One game sold as many games as the entire Madden franchise.

considering that japs and europeans dont play american football, madden would sell less than zelda and mario....
can you agree that the japanese and the americans and the europeans, each have their own taste for games???
No. Madden doesn't sell well outside of America, but Pro Evo/Winning Elevens does. There are lots of European and Japanese gamers that like sports games. I like the PES franchise, they're good games. They're releasing Madden '07 for the Wii and you know what, I bet it sells lots of copies.

There are also a LOT of American gamers that like Mario and Zelda. And Pokemon for that matter. They're all worldwide best-sellers, it's not a European/Japanese thing. It's pretty ignorant of you to say "I don't like it, so it must be all those foreigners that are buying it".

Look at it this way; if you add the Madden franchise (40 million games sold since 1989) to the PES franchise (20 million games sold since 1997) you won't get close to the total combined sales of the Mario games, or the Zelda games, or the Pokemon games. The most popular sport in America + the most popular sport in the rest of the world = less popular than Mario.

i rarely hear anyone talk about the new zelda....yet the new madden was hyped to all hell....im sure it'll be the same for nba live....
The new Zelda is probably the most hyped game of the third-generation consoles. You probably haven't heard people talk about it because you only play NFL games and first-person shooters.

wait for another shooter to be hyped be a big game mag...evryone will be talking about it...hype does not mean it will be on the cover...hype means it will be talked about months before release, and then months afterwards as well....
Shooters are always hyped, because some people are impressed by big guns and lots of blood - no matter how many times they see it. Go look at a shelf full of console magazines. Most of them will have a guy with a big gun on the cover, looking like a bad-ass.

And if you want to talk about longevity, why don't you wait and see how many people download the classic Mario/Zelda games on the Wii's virtual console? The number will be high. Despite the outdated graphics, the games will still be fun to play. The gameplay will be just as rewarding as it was the first time around, the levels will be just as challenging. How many people would want to download John Madden Football '92? None. Because there's a newer version out with better graphics. That's the difference between those types of games. Most sports games and most shooters lack depth. They're fun for a while, but by the time the next one comes out they're obsolete.

It's the same difference between a well-acted, well-scripted, well-directed film that's just as good 20 years later, and a brainless Hollywood action flick with special effects that look ridiculous 5 years on.

i really....really dont have the time nor the energy to read your goddamn essays.... you take this thing way too seriously... whatever your argument is, im still going to buy eithr a 360 and a ps3, in no specific order, and im going to enjoy it..... i really dont care much for nintendo anymore....after the gamecube im skeptical to go out and buy a system from them...its one thing if it seems that they learned from their previous mistakes, but they're making the same mistakes the second time around..."innovation" "we have to be different"....being different isnt always a good thing...especially in the business world...sometimes you score big time by being different, but that's only when consumers actually welcome your products.....

once again, im not gonna go look for sales charts...i honestly dont care...if i'm being childish simply because i hate the gaycube, then you're being very childish by telling me what games i play...i own all the zeldas, the nes, snes and gba versions through ROMS and i own all the major mario games...mario party and the sports marios excluded....i dont enjoy them.... i dont like nintendo's idea of fun...meaning?? what they consider innovative and cool and different and groundbreaking, i honestly see as feeble attempts to get back into the market.....keep in mind, im just talking about the gamecube, and not the 64, snes era....the snes era, N only had like...1 competitor...this time, its 2..maybe even three if you consider the psp...well, maybe not, but it could be a threat....back to the games i play...i play everyting...i've tried just about every genre and now, 14 years later, i know what i like...so what if i like madden??? you like zelda.... you shell out the bucks for mario, which is the same storyline every goddamn time....the little slutty princess peach sleeps around, gets kidnapped now mario the fuckin plumber comes to the rescue....big whoop....there is no difference between mario and madden then, if you think each version of madden is just "shinier and prettier" than the other...

"No. Madden doesn't sell well outside of America, but Pro Evo/Winning Elevens does. There are lots of European and Japanese gamers that like sports games. I like the PES franchise, they're good games. They're releasing Madden '07 for the Wii and you know what, I bet it sells lots of copies."

did i not say that about...14 posts of mine back? different countries, different tastes? europeans like soccer....we dont..therefore, the game may not sell well here...maybe winning eleven did, and i know FIFA 06 did as well, but most people i know that bought it, bought it because of the world cup this year...
