Fernando Morientes gets paid around 9 Mil Euros (someone correct me if I'm wrong) which is around 10 or 11Mil USD, I think. I'm using a currency converter here. lol

They still get paid pretty high, especially Morientes isn't one of the top paid players.

Ins't Beckham paid like 29 Mil? What a waste, he hasn't been doing much for a while now. Too busy doing Gilette razor commercials.

But i'm assuming that only the top players make millions in soccer, right? Whereas in the NFL even rookies who haven't played a pro game in their lives get million dollar contracts

I've never liked American football really. I always thought it was boring and gay, because, yes, padding everywhere. But when i actually learned something about the game, my mind changed.

It's a very tactical sport. They don't charge each other because they want too, but because it's in the game plan. Gaining terrain, proper defending, attacking, it's all just there, and in many ways very similar to football (soccer for the Yanks :) ).

And the padding? Padding or not, the shit hurts as fuck. It offers a bit more protection, but it's not as if those guys don't come battered and bruised of that pitch. They get hurt. Big time.

At the end of the day, it's a professional sport and those guys are pure athletes. Just like any other sport played on a high level. And that little bit of protection they war isn't going to diminish my respect towards them.

So the first to bring up that disgusting padding argument again gets a neg rep :fury:

it's not that i don't understand the passion, it's that i don't see maiming and injuring people over a sport as passion. Americans have passion for their sports too, they just try not to kill each other over it lol. And i'm with y'all on this, for the life of me i can't figure out why anyone likes baseball, that shit is so boring it makes curling look exciting lol
for fucks sake...read damn it...i just told you that it they dont beat eachother down because of the sport, they beat eachother down because of their political views!!!! soccer=politics in europe, south america and africa

S.Gerrard of L'pool gets paid 100,000L/Week (in soccer, you know how much a player is worth when you bring his salary per week, cuz there is usualy one game per week)

You can adjust that and estimate how much does he get per year..

no...you get a pay check if you play for the amateur side of the team... Every club has its school...

ie: Man United has their U-17, U-15, U-20, Man Utd Amaters, Man Utd II/B...

a lot of players come from their schools. There is no drafting, no one comes from some university. you create your own players.

YET! that doesn't change the fact that they are payed a whole fucking lot...man if it's the most popular sport on earth, don't you think that they are getting big time checks? more than a sport that is popular in only one country?

in some cases, you are right. I would guess in most cases you are right. But to say that every soccer riot or melee was caused by political views is bullshit. There really are some idiots out there that love to cause trouble, regardless of political affiliations or differences. Your statement is just as ignorant as mine was, so we're both even.

That is true, but not every country in the world has the money to pay athletes tens of millions of dollars to play soccer, right? Thats what i meant. Only the top teams can afford to pay their players that much. You guys are right, i made some unintelligent comments but i get heated when poeple make unintellingent comments about our sports, just like you guys get heated when someone (me lol) makes stupid comments about soccer. Damn, i knew there was a reason not to get involved in this argument. I should have just stayed out of it, because there's a lot of ignorance on either side of the issue here.

See, this is the kind of stuff that gets me heated. Yes, i originally stupidly said soccer was a non contact sport, and then i corrected myself by saying that is not a full contact sport, which it is not. Sure there is a lot of contact, pushing, shoving, tripping, etc. But i'm talking about FULL contact, as in tackling with the body instead of the feet.

A lot of people find soccer "boring as fuck", as you so eloquently put it, because there isn't enough action for them. To people who don't understand the game, it looks like a bunch of guys kicking a ball around. But there is no need to put american fans down and insult their intelligence. Hey guess what? while it's not hugely popular in the states, hockey is a lot more popular there than soccer. And did you realize, they don't get 5 points per goal, they get one, just like in soccer. And yet, amazingly, they still watch! Please save the ignorant america bashing for another day, there's no need to put them down because they don't have the same feeling about soccer as the rest of the world

finally a soccer fan that gets american football. It's a miracle!

Dude (I can't believe I actually said dude) read your post. Please take the time to actually disect what you said.
Lmao. you tryna make me look like woman or embarass me or something? theres gotta be a reason behind this i wanna know.why cant you believe you called me dude? come on tell me.

You saying you didnt have any good or bad feelings when you stated they are short. so you wasnt compaining. well this is what you said earlier.
I still don't get the hoopla of running around with daisy dukes and kicking a ball. The rest of the world can keep their soccer, no big deal and no different to us whatsoever.
That there doesnt show me any good feelings towards soccer.how about you candyman?

It's states there that I played in the NBA so I played along with it..Hold on take your time re-read it over again. I hope you won't rebuttal this.
'Your ass was wearing short shorts just now early 90's in NBA' wasn't really meant to be for you personally to have played along with it like you said 'so i played a long with it..' lol
that was meant to say more like NBA players just now were wearing short shorts in early 90's and knowing you dislike short shorts i was tryna figure out why attack soccer players who wear short shorts when same time NBA players used to wear short shorts to.

Yea, so is rest of the baseball heads.

To those that say soccer is boring because you get low scores is stupid because if you beleive that then american football, basketball and baseball is also comes out boring. because in american football you score a touch down and in soccer you score a goal. thats like same exactl thing. those two have one thing and only one thing in common and that is its worth 1 point. but since in soccer it stays like that 1point or i goal is boring but in american football they add 5 more points to make it 6 point. so american football comes out exciting just because the number is higher? come on man. its the same point. same value, worth it same. you just adding some extran numbers to make it woo excting. lol.
This is like me buying two same exactly t shirts from same exactl brand store. and then i sell one for $5 and another for $10. and the one i sell for $10 is selling out more because since its biiger price people think its better but no its the same damn shirt. and same thing is in sports.

And Devious187, you keep reppeating yourself Soccer fans do this and that and what not for their team. it isnt as litterly as you making out to be. yes, theres some fans who do krazy for soccer, but not all and those that do i told you before that its all about passion and love of the game. Jibster said it well Chants about violence do not mean it happens, it's verbal banter between two sets of fans and rarely ends up with actual physical volence. And even if it did, that's no reflection on the sport itself and it's entertainment value.

Nobody wants to pay a player millions to sit at home recovering from injuries. Of course they happen, but not nearly as much as in rugby
You seem to be speaking of experience or to know. so, maybe i have you back up your statement with something?
I know i cant but can you?

But i'm assuming that only the top players make millions in soccer, right? Whereas in the NFL even rookies who haven't played a pro game in their lives get million dollar contracts
This is another issue but what does that tell you there about athletes in america and the message its being send out to young kids coming up specially?
tell me if you can if not i'll feel you in.

I don't see your point? It takes more skill to tackle someone without bringing them down than it does to plough into them.

Hey guess what? while it's not hugely popular in the states, hockey is a lot more popular there than soccer. And did you realize, they don't get 5 points per goal, they get one, just like in soccer.
You don't get any points for a goal in soccer.

I didn't have a point with that statement other than what it states: soccer is not a full contact sport. You have me mistaken for one of the other people here who are putting soccer down. I'm not saying that either game is better, they are both great games played by great athletes that involve massive amounts of skill. My whole goal in this thread wasn't to show that american football was better than soccer, and if you think that's what i'm trying to do i suggest you go back and read my earlier posts in this thread. I was only trying to defend my favorite sport from people who call it a pussy sport, when it clearly isn't.

Now you're just trying to fuck with me right? it's not like i've never watched the game before. when you kick the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net, it's a goal, no? And you get one point for a goal, right? If not then why do those Brazilian announcers get so damn excited and scream GGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL

See you don't get it. Yes, you get six points for a touchdown(plus an extra point for kicking the conversion), but if most of the games ended at 7-7, 7-0, or 14-7 a lot of people would find it boring. It's not about how many points you get for scoring, it's the amount of actual scoring. the average football game involves more than a few touchdowns, which makes it more exciting to the fans. Whereas the average soccer game scores are fairly low. If people really took the time to study the game (soccer) they would probably appreciate it a lot more, and not be so concerned with the score.

Another words you only see excitement in woopty woo high scoring games. i dont fully believe that. while it is true in a way that high scoring games are exciting and fun but theres some low scoring games to that has people exciting. if you look at playoffs in baseball from historic perspective you would know that pitching wins games when it counts and so therefore theres low scoring games in baseball.

And theres no such thing as points in soccer.

Also, i asked you to back your statement up with something when you said something like NFL players get injured more then rugby players and i also asked you for your opinion about rockie players coming in get this big time cotracts already without even playing one game.

you misread my post, i was saying rugby players get injured more than nfl players. And what i said in my post was one of the reasons why americans may not like soccer, i never said it was my personal opinion. I kinda like lower scoring games, there's more strategy involved. And as for rookies getting that kind of money, it's not a good thing, you should have to prove yourself first before the big money comes

And theres no such thing as points in soccer.
you know what i mean, goal then

i dont agree that soccer is the most exciting sport simply because the field is so massive and it just doesnt seem "fast-paced" enough. Now dont get me wrong, these soccer players are some of the greatest atheltes in the world but they just dont excite the American public that much because the dont tackle eachother ever single play.

More reasons why americans dont like soccer
1.American's HAVE to see a winner, if not their fuckin head will explode, and they will feel as if they have been screwed over because there is no clear cut victor.

2.America already has major sports that cover ever season

3.Americans are shallow and want to see people suffer, or watch them get embarassed on TV, They dont wanna watch people kick a ball around a massive field for a couple hours.

Americans are more for the quik fix type of thing, soccer is more stratigic, and you must be a lot more patient as a soccer player.

I try and avoid all of the things i have mentioned about americans

No, you don't get points for goals. You get points for wins. Whoever ends up with the most goals, wins. 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, none for a loss. Unless it's in some kind of knockout competition.

i cleared that up in my last post. i just call a goal a point, but i think you know what i mean, at least i thought people would, but apparently not lol. That's the same way it works in hockey, which was the sport i was comparing it to at the time, except you get 2 points for a win instead of 3
