Sorry but i guess you'll never understand the passion of this game so to speak. you have your own way of understanding your games passion but soccer has its own. soccer has no bounderies so to speak. soccer has no rules to oh you cant do this or that, shit is unlimited. to you this is krazy but to others is not.
it's not that i don't understand the passion, it's that i don't see maiming and injuring people over a sport as passion. Americans have passion for their sports too, they just try not to kill each other over it lol. And i'm with y'all on this, for the life of me i can't figure out why anyone likes baseball, that shit is so boring it makes curling look exciting lol

I didn't read much of this thread cos Devious bored the hell outta me with his incoherent rambling by page 2.

1. Soccer is not a no contact sport, you don't get a penalty for contact, shoulder barges are allowed.

2. People mentioning it being a low scoring thus boring game. Wrong, it's just you don't get 5 'points' for a goal, if you did, some games would end 20-15, i guess all you "score whores" would lap it up then.

3. The only reason Americans don't like it is a) their league is shite, b) none of their teams are "World Series Megathon Champions of the Universe" and c) they'd actually have to compete with other nations, rather than their own states.

First of all, I never said anything negative about soccer so I don't know why you feel the need to single me out when there were people who said a lot worse things about soccer than me . And incoherent rambling? Maybe you were reading Bachaveli's posts instead of mine. So I made one mistake, you can do shoulder barges. That doesn't exactly make it a full contact sport, now does it? That was my point. All I was trying to say was that american football isn't a pussy sport. And there is no reason to insult american fans because they don't have the same appreciation for the sport that you do. That is just being ignorant. So soccer isn't their sport. Who cares? Not everyone has to love it, and everyone has their own different reasons why they like it or don't like it. There is no a, b, or c reasons. To each his own, have you ever heard that before? Oh, and by the way, could you please point out where I was incoherently rambling? because what i said made perfect sense to me and others in the thread that agree with me (but you wouldn't know that because you didn't even read the whole thread, you just took one line and ran with it)

see, i can understand that, i just don't understand how people can get so involved in a game that they actually want to hurt or kill other team's fans, or the players themselves

Devious, i read to the second page and it's only you and Bachaveli up to then, apologies for singlin you out, i just wanted to argue the points i read which were only really yours, if i read the whole thing and responded to everything i'd be here all day! No disrespect intended.

On another note, lets not label all footy fans as hooligans, the English game has cleaned up it's act immensley since the late 70s and 80s. Once again, i'll ask you to look outside America to gain a different perspective. Chants about violence do not mean it happens, it's verbal banter between two sets of fans and rarely ends up with actual physical volence. And even if it did, that's no reflection on the sport itself and it's entertainment value.

well i know that all fans aren't like that, but you have to remember, over here the media only wants to report the bad side of everything, so all we ever hear about is incidents like this. I think people here were exaggerating to get their point across, and maybe we took it too far, but i just don't like it when people put down other sports in order to make their sport look better, and it drives me crazy when people say american football is a pussy sport, when it clearly isn't and anyone who has watched more than 5 minutes would know that. I didn't even want to get into this debate but look what happened lol

^The reason why people say it's a pussy sport is because they compare it to rugby, and there's no real protective gear in rugby. It's one of those "Foreign Complex" things where the Euros and the Australians, etc. like to say "We're tougher than those Americans."

#76
well i guess it works both ways, cuz a lot of americans think the same about them lol. The funny thing is, there's some pretty big dudes in rugby, but you don't see too many 350-400 pound guys playing rugby. Whereas in football, you're constantly getting charged by guys that size that like to hurt people. I'm guessing if rugby players had to deal with that, they'd want some protection too lol

It's to do with the fact that you wear padding everywhere.

For me though, the reason it's shite is cos it's so stop start whereas "soccer" is end to end, even if they aren't scoring every minute, there's match action going on, not just tactical decisions. You can argue that you shouldn't put other sports down to big yours up. I call it comparison, which is a perfectly fair way to judge IMO.

comparison is fair, calling other sports pussy sports isn't fair. What you just did was reasonable, you gave a good explanation of why you don't like american football. I have no problem with that whatsoever. But calling it a pussy sport isn't reasonable or sensible and it bothers me when people do that, especially since most of the people i've heard say that haven't even ever watched a full game

Agreed, it's ignorance born out of passion for another sport, you can like both.

Not that i do!

EDIT: Gotta admit i watched the SuperBowl a couple of years ago and it grabbed my attention for 30mins or an hour or so.

And there are legitimate reasons why football players wear padding, other than to protect just themselves. I don't know how much rugby or soccer players get paid, but football players get paid ridiculous amounts of money, and it's in the best interest of the teams and the league to protect their investment. Nobody wants to pay a player millions to sit at home recovering from injuries. Of course they happen, but not nearly as much as in rugby
