it was a "Colonial and Native" costume party, and the nazi uniform was fitting. Poor choice for someone of his stature, but if another person dressed up like that at a party of stead of the prince then it wouldn't be this blown up.

If anyone, anyone wore a Nazi uniform around me Id knock their teeth in. Its not just cause he's a prince, its just disrespectful and stupid. No excuses for it. That uniform has so much negativity attached to it, no one should be wearing it. Its just a respect thing and a common sence thing, two things he obviously lacks.

Lets hope William got all the brains in the family.

He is human, and I personally wouldnt wear it but lets face it, if it was such a taboo thing to do why would they sell them in costume shops? Its not like this hasnt been done before. I really could care less if his "third" in line for the throne his charity work in Africa shines over this anyway. Once again the media throwing a story out of nothing.

^I'm pretty sure he didn't get it in a costume shop; he made it himself. Got a tan uniform and put an armband with a swastika on it. He wanted to look like one of Rommel's Afrika Corps.

But this kid is a dope all around and has done all kinds of dopy things. He has a girlfriend from Zimbabwe i think he's engaged to or nearly, and when a reporter asked if he thought it would be appropriate to have a girl from Zimbabwe as the potential Queen, Harry said, "It's not like she's black or anything..."

^^whatever

"if you forget history, then you are condemned to repeat it."

If anyone 'normal' wore that costume, then it wouldnt be a problem, but Harry has great responsibility. If he can enjoy the perks of his priveleged life then he has to live with the curse of his gift also. (a gift which was gifted to him ofcourse)!
The nazi era was the biggest lapse in civilised morality and for PRINCE Harry to be so insensitive in his position as Britains Ambassador just shows how his conscious seems to be bankrupt of any feeling towards 6 MILLION people who were massacred.
Like I said as an ambassador for Britain he will have to be careful what he does.
And if he doesn't want ot then he can always give up his privelged life and live with us commoners. What makes me think he doesn't want to do this!

and to artisticgurl: harrys charity work is laughable, he went on the charity work as part of a gap year (his whole life is a gap year  ) and for the cameras.
Say if Bill Gates gave $10,000 towards charity and someone who was earning minimum wage gave £300 at the same charity event, whos charity would be heavier relatively speaking. Exactly!
and the Royal Family are known to do these charity events for publicity anyway.

Ive gotta disagree their. If i saw someone wearing that i would find it disrepectful. If Dressing up as someone who killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Jews isn't offensive then i don't know what is offensive. A joke shouldn't be made of such a serious event.

what i meant is that it wouldnt be a media event. Yes you yourself would kick his ass, but even you assaulting him wouldnt make the newspapers.

when i say 'it wouldnt be a problem' i mean that it wouldnt be a worldwide circus

Yeah i agree with u their. If it was a non-famous person then they would prolly get a beatin from a few people and never wear it again. That would be the end of the matter.
The fact that its 'Harry' means that the media are gonna go on about it 4 ever.
But he fully deserves it. U can't do shit like that when ur it his position.

Isn't the swastika a symbol of peace?? It's down there in my book of facts. And yes the Nazi's did use it too. What was the Swastika before the Nazi's?

WoW is not a place for apathetic people. Especially in topics like this!!

I think Kareem may be right about how the swastika is a greek mythological symbol.

its a hindu symbol.. but it goes the other way round to the nazi one..

it existed before the greeks...

in hindu its pronounced 'svus-tic' which the nazis changed to swastika.

It's been used by many cultures for a few thousand years. China, Japan, India, Greece, and southern Europe. Even Native Americans used it. By the Middle Ages, the swastika was a well known, if not commonly used, symbol but was called by many different names:

China - wan
England - fylfot
Germany - Hakenkreuz
Greece - tetraskelion and gammadion
India - swastika

The word swastika is derived from the Sanskrit स्वस्तिक, svastika, meaning any lucky or auspicious object, and in particular a mark made on persons and things to denote good luck.
[...]
The swastika appears in art and design throughout human history, symbolising many different things — luck, Surya (the sun), Brahma, or the Hindu concept of samsara. In fact, the swastika is used primarily as a religious symbol by Hindus – it was first mentioned in the Vedas, the holy texts of Hinduism – but transferred to other Indic religions like Buddhism and Jainism. It also occurs in other Asian, European, and Native American cultures – sometimes as a simple geometrical motif, sometimes as a religious symbol. The almost universally positive meanings of the swastika were subverted in the early twentieth century when it was adopted as the emblem of the National Socialist German Workers Party. Since World War II, most Westerners see it as solely a fascist symbol, leading to incorrect assumptions about its pre-Nazi use and its use in other cultures.
